1980 Duple Dominant 45 seat coach - Picture 1 of 11

Lucky enough to have been around when it seemed Duples were everywhere.

Apart from being described as a "delightful piece of 1970's retro" when it was built in 1980, my memories of driving these pieces of shit when they were new most certainly don't agree with the description.

1981 Ducati desmo (pantah)   £4,000

Isn't that the one that takes a full day to set up the valve clearances and you nearly have to repeat it on a monthly basis ?.

Never understood why they went for that desmodronic system.

I did think that the likelihood of anything powered by a NA Bedford 500 being able to "keep up with traffic" was somewhat slim.

Just looks impossible to ride for us old people. I'd be quite happy to swap it for the telly in the living room, though.

I was following a 916 through the centre of Norwich the other day.  Sounded f'ing gorgeous.

It's in fabulous Croydon. I bet it'd be great fun to get the train down and ride it home down the quieter roads, would be well up for that.

Thought about putting this in the ebay f*ckwits and arseholes thread.

Advertised (and apparently "sold") last week - I thought the starting price was a bit rich for something with no MOT (though this info was surprisingly absent from the auction listing) so messaged the seller to see if he planned on getting it MOT'd before the auction end - he relied saying something along the lines of "not insured/taxed/couldnt ride it"

Now re-advertised as having 12 months MOT.

I have been idly looking for a C50/70/90 for a long time. The rear of the frame on that one is clearly fucked, evidenced by the decades old filler and primer by the shock mounts. It’s undoubtedly a candidate for restoration, but don’t be under any illusion that it’s not going to need extensive structural repair. I strongly suspect that it failed an MoT on frame rot back in the day, and had just enough work done to get it through another one or two tests before being laid up.

These little bikes’ Achilles heel is their propensity to dissolve their rear tinware; that and the bodgery/neglect of the people who tended to own them when they were current.

The electrically assisted bicycle that set back the development and sale of electrically assisted cycling about 30 years.

If Sir Clive had just got into bed with Brompton or Raleigh or designed a more conventional bike himself, he'd be as rich as Elon or Jeff, instead of being relegated into history behind Sir Alan.
