My dad’s first car was an A35. Even in the 1960s it was rusty- handbrake pulled off in his hand etc.  had to sell in the end he says as there was a tyre shortage and the correct size wasn’t available. Got a two-tone Hillman then.

Yes the handbrake level exited through the floor - a single rolled-over pressing - which attached to a crossways tube under the car which picked up the handbrake cable. They all got crud in them at the join in the floor and snapped off.
