You were obviously under a misapprehension when you agreed to donate towards this project. Egg has already said you can have your money back and if you pm me your paypal email or bank details I will double your "investment" as long as you stop pissing in the chips of the rest of us.

You think I’m paying to fix a strangers car?

Posted

Maybe read the thread properly again and not skim read it and see what conclusion you come to then?

That you are paying a fiver each to weld up a rotten Citroen belonging to a stranger?

Is that the long and short of it?

Well, okay then.

...Ive only checked in and out of this thread 'occasionally' - it seems the documents /reg to the car is still retained by the owner; car was collected by Shite Knight n he completed its welding in a matter of weeks; along the way a few shitters chipped into a fund for bits n bobs like sills, cutting discs wire etc.?

...I thought the visa cabby was a cherished vehicle by the owner; n they were citroen buff's etc having owned a dayne before, but were quoted 'large sums' to have the welding done on the Visa...

...whats the story then; do they not wont it back/bought something else, fell outta love with it, or hard up on their coin (time of year)...

...has anyone been in contact with them n what do they see for the future of the car?

I have been in contact with them, they want the car.

End of story.

....thanks; that's all I was really asking about; read this on 1st page of the thread;

"Sellers words:

With great sadness, we must now part with ore red '85 cabriolet, as we are unable to get it through an MOT due to severe rust.  We have had so much fun over the years, and this is breaking our hearts.

Anyway, it failed the MOT on front wheel bearings, brake pipes and extensively rusty sills.  The MOT garage wouldn't do the welding, and neither would 2 others.  So it has to go"

...you've done great work on this shiteknight; a lotta folk just are in the dark about what goes into welding up old cars; the many, many consumables n time spent cleaning up areas  to get a proper weld; I used to do it for a (meagre living) up till last year - I got sick n poor doing it; I also tow/transport so ive had all sorts of days wasted where the owner of the 'project' either hasn't informed the previous lot he didn't want the work done with anymore, n they wanted paying for 'storage' for the car being in their yard shed...

....it did drain me, all the head-butting BS; but it looks like i'll be back doing it in the new year as my current job contract runs out mid January - I did keep the unit on, as a 'fall back' so at least I can earn...

Just caught up with all of this.

Absolutely class that you fixed it up, and totally amazing that people are willing to chip in. Love the AS vibe sometimes.

You’ve kept more class cars on the road than most shiters have ever owned.

Keep up the good vibes and ignore all the other noise man.

Technically the car is currently FOAD's, so you have paid to fix FOAD's car, if that makes you feel any better.

If FOAD decides, after having welded it up and MOT'd it, to give his car back to its previous owners free of charge, then that's his decision and is neither here nor there really as far as the financial contributions go.

Well, okay then.

But it's a Visa Cabriolet, that's the point. We don't care who owns it, just that it still exists. Simple. End of. No more questions please.

Given how badly burned the forum got last time there was a save a classic knees up whip round (summary: shit car, new tyres) I understand the Rev's misgivings. FWIW (and I'm clearly a horrible person for doing so) I read it in exactly the same way as he did.

HOWEVER:

This situation is different; both FOAD/SK and patrons went into this with their eyes open. The outcomes were fully understood.

It's not what I would have done in this situation but I'm pleased to watch from the sidelines.

Ping me the details and I'll shit up a story for y'all.

Still going to write that story?

Maybe, maybe not. Try me.

We'll do it while waterboarding you on a rusty French floorpan.

Then again, Chinese Water Torture (Mythbuster kind) could easily be done by having you laid under a leaking radiator.

This is a wonderful gesture by all concerned, especially the Shite Knight, and it restores quite a bit of faith in humanity that there are those willing and able to help out total strangers JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN.

Acts of selfless generosity are what makes this a great community and a place I'm proud to be part of.  Personally I don't really care what the owner decides to do with the Visa, they put out a shout for help on a car they clearly love, chances are they'll keep chugging about in it as they have for many years.  Their life is their own, we are not to judge them for any decision they might make now the work is done, everyone's experiences are unique.

So, thank you to Shite Knight for putting the graft in to help the Visa owner and so many others.  Thank you to those that could donate for making this a possibility.  Long may this sort of bizarre and illogical philanthropy continue!

That about sums it up for me.

What’s a fiver nowadays? Not a lot really. But collectively if all of those who can spare it donate that fiver to the cause it becomes quite a bit and can be used to help someone less fortunate.

It’d be a much nicer world in general if those who can afford to give a bit to those who can’t.

I’m dead pleased a bit of spare cash from us lot has preserved a rare old car, and maybe it’s a nice thing to do for someone else this time of year too.

Hats off to Mr Knight especially for his skills and time spent on this. Top job.

It could make a nice, heart-warming tale for your readers, ideal for this time of year...

I've enjoyed reading this. I didn't donate because the car meant nothing to me. If I had donated it would be just that, a donation to do what you want with.

I will however donate £50 to Foad/Shite providing he wastes it entirely on himself for such a selfless act.

Can he or egg please pm me so that my funds can be transferred.

I understand the Rev's misgivings

Me too.

Last week he was in the Caribbean with some young bit of fluff, now he is in England in the cold.

No wonder he is grumpy.

Posted

Kind gesture Mally, please go direct to FOAD for that now.

Best.

I will ask, but didn't want to give him an option to refuse.

Hi all - as 'project bursar' we have £28.72 left in the kitty. I have discussed with Scott.  He is ok if the rest goes to Captain70's to help save his old triumph.

I hope this is ok and meets with everyone's approval.

I recognise this is a change on the basis you donated your money, so if any issues just quietly PM me and i'm sure we can sort things out.

Up the shiters!

Ok, this post has received 14 likes, and no donor has asked for a refund, so I will proceed to pay the Cap'n.

Final monies are now transferred to Captain_70s, so, I think my job is done on this now.

Thanks again everyone.

Let's do it again sometime.
