Skattrd is used to quicker cars than I am but this felt almost on a par with the S60 2.4T that myself and Bramz helped repatriate to the north recently, ie; bloody fast.

Welcome to the triple dark side!

"4 doors, mo' ho's" - check

EVRY mod boosted soot chucker - check

Nicely done

It glows in the dark too, that'll be handy. Looks positively orange in that first pucture. That's a good thing.

It was good to drive and if you covered the odometer you would have no clue to the mileage.

Sorry about being over exuberant with your new toy.

I'd one of these for a while. Epic barge. As you mentioned they do rev like a petrol. Rev counter goes to 7000 rpm. Mine revved off the clock. Manual one and it pulled like a train

Yas queen. What a fine looking and highly practicool daily donkey. I shudder to think what these are worth (must be pretty rare?) But I would definitely meet one up the junction for a chat maybe more and end up going all the way.

Dibs!

To try and make up for being a bit of a tease on the identity of the vehicle I've just been out, taken it for a little run and taken some more pics.

Things noticed in daylight - it's red, not pink or orange, red.

The gearbox has snow E and S modes, yesterday I was using E, which I assume is economy, I can't say I was impressed with that. It's now in snow, so 2nd gear starts and hopefully slightly fewer changes, we'll see.

There are a couple of small things not working, nsr door central locking, and osf headlamp washer looks a bit broken.

Bigger broken things include a/c compressor and saggy headlining.

It warms up very quickly, this is good and bad. Good as it means the thermostat isn't broken and warm car in winter, bad as this means it's a bit inefficient.

Headlamps appear misty, condensation, notice, red.

Not leather, tidy looking cloth

My potato-cam tries to make it look pink, it isn't!

Tidy engine and fluids appear to be in correct places.

Boot … some things were included, car cover, rear brake disc thingys, which weren't fitted when the brakes were changed, some bulbs an oil filter, and a big socket for said removing oil filter

Nice car, I've always fancied an E34 or E36 TDS.

Do you know that these have an in tank lift pump that doesn't like veg very much? I think the fix is to bypass it and fit a Facet-type pump.

It was to be  expected wasn't it ;)

It wasn't particularly expensive, and dibs noted, although I can't see it going anywhere soon

I shall have to investigate this.

The main high pressure fuel pump was rebuilt a couple of years ago, which cost £300

I need to know what an "afee" is. Can you exchange your ticket and let me know?

Afee definition. n. The futile arguement had with a member of train staff , usually on a train, that you have a valid ticket to travel on said train and their insistence that you do not and should have got a different train.

v.To afee - to argue a hopeless case in front of dozens of people.

Adj. Afee sob - noise made after afee payment.

From here, that looks like it might be an excellent example of the E36, in a proper colour, decent spec and a 6 pot engine (tds for extra points too) - well bought!

Will you leave the black grilles on the front or return to standard? Given how good it looks, I'd be tempted to do the latter...

I can't remember what the back of the headlights look like but it'll be a replacement seal or cover you may need to cure the condensation. If you're lucky it might be refitting the one you have 'properly'.

What are your plans for it?

Plans:

Fit some winter wheels/tyres and use it,not much else.

I didn't know about the grills being wrong, but I like the black ones, so they can stay.

The rear looks like it's sitting low to me, what's the opinion on this?

I like cars with a half decent ride height as I live in the country and the roads aren't great.

Ha! Wait until you see the video of me in your E30... #AccidentalBurnout

I don't know about the ride height, in one pic the rear looked low, in another it does look 'normal', often a bit of an optical illusion as the rear arches on most cars are 'lower' than the fronts...

If you're running it over winter and the car is fairly free of rot, you may want to look at anything you can do to prevent bits of the body going crusty.

E36s always look arse heavy to me, I think it's just the difference in the tops of the arches. I even resorted to drawing on a picture of mine to prove to my brain it was level.

Well bought indeed. Like that a lot, high spec E36 saloons don't come up much now, and they're real lookers.

A couple of days late, but I know the rules, pez station shot:

Another 60 miles covered in it this morning, I think I like it.

It makes a nice noise, but don't think it's that quick, despite the seller saying this has 170hp.

Does anyone fancy a red 205TD? I'll do an ad later/when I can be arsed.

Very nice, I was looking for a tidy manual version of one of these, couldn't find one and stumbled across the 405 and haven't looked since. IIRC the engines in these are of the "square"variety which is why they like to rev so much. There's a vid of a Dieselmeken pumped one doing a stupidly high revving burnout.

My first minor modification completed.

Very minor, I blocked the EGR, I just dropped something in the pipe for now, I'll get a "proper" blanking plate later. I don't think I'll go the full EGR delete with the new MOT regs, as a completely missing EGR would be noticeable.

I don't know if it's psychological or not, but a quick test drive and it felt like it picked up a bit quicker than it did before.

I'll leave off the veg for a bit whilst I do some research, plus I'm not doing many miles during the week.

There's the lift pump to think about, and also I'd like to get a spare fuel filter or two before chucking veg in it.

The more I look at this thread, the greener I go. I has very envy. Looks spot on.

It's odd, I've never really been a fan of the e36. I mainly bought it as it's one of the few options for a vegetarian car with more than 4 cylinders.

That said, in the short time I've had it it's grown on me.

I now think it's a bit of a looker, the e36 is definitely a 90s classic style/shape.

It's far from perfect, there's some lacquer peel and grot on the boot and a few other places. but it does look pretty good for 20 years and 200k miles.

What size are the hoops on this? I have a set of 185/65 15 winters I'm looking to sell.

I had a shot of Supernaut's 320i automatic coupé that's supposed to put out 150bhp, it felt more like 115 with that slushmatic.

My old E36 323 (170hp 2.5) was pretty good at being slow unless you mashed the pedal. To be honest, the sound of the straight 6 was better than the speed it produced.

I'd definitely have another.

The 323i manual I had always felt lively. There were rumours that it was chiped but no evidence. It still did not have the puch of my current 328i.

Yup. Shit slow and thirsty but it makes such a nice noise.

However, I do feel I need to try a straight-6 diesel of some sort. I remember watching the dollywobbler videos of that Omega 2.5TD he had briefly and thinking the sound it made was utterly awesome.
