Bramz ever changing fleet merry go round.

A Xedos 6 really would be perfect, I did buy a 2.0 V6 manual one as a beater and it was the best 500 quid car I ever had, dead reliable, just a little rusty. Join the Xedos group on facebook and I bet you'll find a decent one in your budget.

Bloody hell, that's worked for a living hasn't it?

HAS to be the ONLY one surely......but testament to regular oil changes!

That does look pretty fucking rough tbh - and for another few hundred quid you get a lovely one.

But AS membership dictates the worst example is bought - not necessarily at a competitive price.

Looking forward* to seeing it next week!

Well that Clio plan went to shit as something tasty and cheap appeared on here.

If anyone needs a car taking from down south to Scotland (or somewhere north) in early August, let me know.

In other car related news, I spent money on the Audi today in the form of screen wash. Two weeks ownership, around 800 miles covered so far. Front tyres seem to be holding air now so I've opted to keep them on for the time being, and happily the wear is nice and even. It's doing it's 'an car' job quite well.

I'm actually strangely tempted by that Clio myself.  Not sure I can justify going to Shropshire for it though (and won't have time to anyway for a few weeks).

Okay I want this

350k MK1 Clio. I'm trying to contact the seller about it.

If I do end up buying it, can anyone store it for a couple of days, as it's in Shropshire?

Don't do it Bramz, that looks as rough as a Badgers arse.

I'm sure you could snare something a bit better than that, even on your budget.

Edit, you've bought a Xantia?

Yes, and it's a good opportunity* to go to Scotland. £42 from London to Dundee by train with my discount, not bad I guess.

I can feel boredom encroaching with the Audi. It's just not a French car.

Sorry I've been elsewhere but I could probably fetch that Clio if anyone wants it.  Just incase anyone does is there anyone that would give me and 2 kids a lift back from fotu on Saturday?

I can even put some spare parts in the boot.

Is kid #3 walking home?

Shes walking somewhere, I forgot she needed dropping at Scout camp on Saturday morning.  Fortunately she is spending Friday night at a friends house so I can still come out and play :)

As per tradition, I am bored. Well, not bored, just itching for something with nicer seats.

Audi potentially up for sale/swap. Swap for HDI engined Xantia or 406, or a 2.1 XUD. I am reasonably open to something else French/Italian and diesel. Mileages covered dictate it must take the heavy oil.

Long MOT, all belts renewed recently (no paperwork but it drives well and sounds very good, so I suspect this is all correct), recentish new clutch, new front calipers, decent tyres, clean interior and reasonable exterior with some marks. 173k.

Gear stick tatty, rusty front arches, no stereo, can take a little while to warm up. Air con not functioning.

Value is £650 or thereabouts.

Not desperate, just putting feelers out.

Economical 1.4 petrol? Great seats.

Love the way Italian is now featuring in your wanted lists more often, the bug has been caught! ?

I`ve potentially been offered an early (P) Marea estate, unfortunately for you, its of the 5 cylinder 2.0 petroleum distillate variety (& unfortunately for me, doesnt meet upcoming ULEZ emissions requirements).

Well I'd be a fool to not be interested in said Marea....so tell me more! Feel free to message me if it's easier.

All I can tell you at this stage is that its been sitting in a garage since 2007 & was allegedly fine when he put it there. I think its an ELX.

Hmmm, not sure I can afford another project at this stage, especially with the AX having not been touched yet.

Thanks for mentioning it though.

*sings*

"How d'you solve a problem like Marea.....?"

Nah even at that price I can't really be bothered, as I don't have a spare policy to insure it with.

No one fancy the Audi at all then?

So the Audi sold on eBay today, and the seller has already been in contact to collect it, and it sold for more than I paid for it. That doesn't happen often. It was a good daily for the 1600 miles I did in it, but I won't especially miss it, it was painfully uncomfortable for me and wasn't that great to drive.

The C5 has grown on me in the week or so since I got it. To begin with, the car felt weird, the ride was a bit (modern) off for me and the clutch felt a bit shit in first gear. However, after some research online, the resounding message about the 2.2 HDI was that it needed to be used smoothly, and was more of a wafter than a speed machine. The peak torque is quite low down, and the peak power is quite high up, (2k vs 4k, not seen the latter yet), so it does need some smooth gearchange action or it feels a bit shunty on and off with the clutch, of course this could also be a sign that the DMF is breaking...

I drove it back last night through some magnificent gusts and rain and it was unflappable, tearing past (within speed limits) other cars. It actually gets all rather quiet and peaceful at motorway speeds and rides beautifully. Whilst the steering is a bit wooden and devoid of feedback, it handles quite well for what is essentially a double bed on wheels. I haven't bothered trying out the SPORT suspension yet as I have always been of the mindset that some buttons shouldn't be teased with temptation.

The interior plastic is utterly crap however and the gigantic blob dashboard is an impressive heat sink giving the car an almost constant stuffy feeling in these warmer months. This one doesn't even have air con so the coldest setting has no impact on the heat, and the huge windows need to be nearly down fully for sufficient ventilation. The seats are good, really good, despite a low level of adjustment available which I suspect is down to the side airbags.....

Some odd features inside it, for example double sun visors, one for swinging to the side if necessary, and the other a back up for the windscreen. The windows go up when the wipers come on too. It does have loads of storage too, there is a hugely deep cubby hole to the right of the steering wheel, door pockets AND pull out bins, and a drawer under the seat! And an actual working cup holder. Yeesh.

Overall it's actually a reasonable car. It has some weird creaks and flapping noises from underneath (I think the sump guard is broken), the fuel economy seems to stick around 40/42 without any change, and I've managed to squeeze 530 miles out of the tank so far without the light coming on, so it could be worse.

I had some mouth breather on Marketplace trying to tell me it was only worth £200 as its  Citroen C5, how depressing you life must be to barter at the bottom end of the market eh? I find myself wanting to try out one of the fabled AS favourite Lagunas now, and maybe a 607, although they never seem to be cheap. As for the C5, I will keep it until it kills itself. Might be tomorrow, might be months away!

Oh yeah and the AX still hasn't been touched. Sigh.
