So this is the current standings. I knew I'd eventually have the Merc so when Wuvs posted it for sale, that was a pretty quick decision. It's done 252k but it's pretty quick and isn't that bad to drive so it's most definitely a run until dead sort of car.

Now the Saab is a bit different for me. I'm used to automotive dandruff so to have something with heavy doors, solid plastic and very little rust is a revelation. It's so remarkably different to everything I've had that it's become endearing in the 15 hours I've owned it.

As per typical I'm off to get something else this afternoon. It's more me, French, undesirable and rare.

Quite keen to keep the Saab to be honest. I've paid a fairly high sum for the newcomer (today) so it might be for sale quite soon, it's more of a 'another one off the list' purchase and I vaguely fancy an old Volvo now.

Not really sure why I try and predict my old car activities. It never quite turns out that way.

You street must look awesome with the Scotsman's Volvo there too

Oh it's not broken. Just drove 130 miles home in it. It's incredibly loud but oddly refined for a 34 year old diesel

That's an excellent pair. I'm still in the honeymoon period with my W203 but so far I'm really happy with it. And nobody can say anything bad about C900s!

Unless it’s been roller painted in Scotland’s finest Army surplus paint - is it even an AS spec Renner 18?

Looks great!

Actually, that’s a lie. It looks a bit shit.

I’m so proud. Well done.

Unbelievably amazing. We really need to start issuing medals for purchases like this. It must be the only running Renault 18 diesel in the country. More pictures, more pictures now! Where on earth did you find it?

Not sure how I ended up with it...saw it on Facebook and sent a blind deposit.

The seller has a genuine Dodge Viper, Audi Quattro and Renault 5 Turbo.

He dailys a 106 diesel and a E28 524td. I wish I was making this up.

nope i see a black one with turbo alloys north of manc on the motorway now and again

Wow! Fantastic. I'd love that as a daily, what a tool for getting to work. Great stuff

Your car choices are epic. Where do you find these rare beasts. Loving your latest purchase. You can't beat a clattery diesel. I've got a lancia thema turbo ds as a daily and love it

Is it a turbo D? I thought these were all non-turbo. Think they're like a 2.1 or 2.2 though so should keep up with the traffic OK

Posted

No it's a non turbo. I don't think we got them in turbo diesel form here.

It's a 2.1 with a 5 speed box. I wasn't expecting much but it doesn't feel that bad and is actually quite fun to push through the gears. Sounds like an old van of course.

Immense

My dad had one of these when they were new. Fond memories of sliding around on the third row of seats

Is this it? It was at the Festival of the Unexceptional during the summer.

Even so, it is still great to see some still about, especially a base one. I also didn't know there was a facelift model until Bramz posted the picture of his one up the thread. I can't wait to see more of it.

The J8S is a tremendous engine. Had one of those in the family once. A white R21 Savannah, albeit turbo, and it was quick for what it is. Much, much envy. Would like to see video of it running!

Sorry, I think I worded it poorly last time.

I was wondering if the one from FOTU was the same as the one hairnet had seen around.

Posted

Oh, no.

I know the car Hairnet is talking about.

That's a giffer owned black 18 Turbo, which is again a different car.
