Models of cars I really liked that were never replaced.

Fiat coupé

Ford Puma

Where people once wanted svelte coupés, now they want bloated soft roaders.

People are dicks.

I was going to add the Fiat Coupe to my list. Completely forgot about the Puma which is a worthy mention.

Agree with your last point. They usually end up parking next to me in a car park and I sometimes struggle to pull out of the space safely because I can't see past 'em. :(

Bedford CF

Wasn't the CF replaced by the Midi?

I disagree.

As a Probe owner the biggest issue is that fucking Ford badge. Forget the badge and treat it as any other Jap car and it's a perfectly capable and decent car. I've used mine daily for the last few weeks and they aren't a bad motor at all.

Consider it outside of being a Capri replacement they are a decent car. The Cougar is a pile of shit however.

Interesting that MX6 was in the original list as a great car that was never replaced, and yet with a different badge it was the Shiite replacement of a great car.

Does that mean that the Capri was replaced by a great car but they put a Mazda badge on it. ????

ironic.

I have no idea what the Probe was supposed to be.

An MX6 ??

Why oh why don't they make 3 door estates anymore? Stick your "Mario Bros Plumbers" signs in the big side windows during the week. Then quickly convert back to a car for that hot date or to sign on.

P.S. the Audi A2 is alive and well:

brilliant.

I like the look of both.

But unlikely to buy either.

kinda thought Supra had a better ring to it, personally.

But then it would have needed 300bhp+ and be half-again as large and heavy ;)

Renault Avantime: sure it was a failiure, but when you fail, try harder next time, don't just close the factory and give up. In today's weird world of monster crossovers it would be just the thing.

Renault Alpine GTA: Well they have actually got around to replacing the GTA after 25 years or so, but it isn't rear engined anymore so doesn't count.

VW Beetle: The world** still needs a basic, tough, small car which would of course have an air cooled engine.

**by which I of course mean me.

Try again, fail again. Fail better.

OP comments about the Scorpio apply to any big saloon that's not German unfortunately. Personally I love big Citroëns but I can understand why they don't build them any more as they'd only sell about eight while everyone else goes to BMW.

When the C6 came out I was running an XM and I remember promising myself that I'd have one for £500 in ten years time, but they seem to have kept their value!

Deffo agree on the prelude and the a2 .

For a while you could buy a prelude a legend coupe and an accord coupe all at the same time iirc. Madness really

Don't forget the Civic coupe.

Indeed. Big RWD saloons that look good & are nice to drive are what's missing these days.

Sorry, couldn't resist .

But seriously a basic 2.0 Guilia, XF or E , 5 series, 3 series, C and E Class are all fighting for those old Granada , SD1, Carlton/Senator/Omega. Company car customers. And all are very definitely nice to drive and RWD, looking good is in the eye of the beholder, of course.

And best of all they all depreciate at least as fast as the old school barges, with the bigger engined ones hit hardest.

If someone had told me a day would come when I could buy a 350/400bhp car for a couple of grand , when I was looking at £2,000 Scorpios and Senators, I wouldn't have believed them.

Wheelspin used to be considered incompetant driving. It will always be slower than car / clutch control.

When did smoke and donuts get to be clever, and why?

The Peugeot 504  - the world still needs a basic, tough, small mediumish car which would of course have an air a water cooled engine.

And is 5 million times better than a Beatle (having owned both...).

Because it's fun, in my, and some others opinions.

In the right place obvs. not down your local high Street.

Might be something to do with the fact that Citroen only managed to flog about 1200 C6s of any description here, out of a 7-year production run of maybe 23,000 cars.

This one's up for three grand, just along the way from my office

Compare that with the historic (and equally undesirable) NSU Ro80, about 3500 of which were UK RHD out of a 10-year run of 37,400.

Woo, yeah*, Clarkson.

No, I thought it was fun when he was still a Cub Reporter on the Doncasre Advertiser, or whatever.

My god, that Allegro estate looks fantastic. I never used to think so. What's happened to me?

VW Schwimmwagen.

The only thing that's come close in the last ~80 years is the 007 Esprit, which wasn't really a thing.

Bring back the MR2. Mazda still sell the MX5 by the bucket-load; the MR2 could, and should work again.

Agree on the Cougar, but that isn’t how it was marketed, somewhat laughable but not the first time that has applied to marketing.

Ford priced the Cougar at the same level as the 3 Series Coupe, and wondered why there only sold about 4. That was not a good era for Ford - their product planning was a disaster.
