Has there ever been a full on exhibition of the history of vehicles for the mobility impaired either at Gaydon, Beaulieu or the Science Museum or elsewhere?

It would make a great subject if it's not already done. Or could be done again. The range of vehicles is quite amazing.

the Coventry Motor museum once did an exhibit a while back borrowing some of the vehicles that the science museum hold, speaking of the Science museum I note that they have updated a few of their invalid vehicle pages with fresh new photographs which has been quite awesome to see!

I was going to share some but it appears their website is currently a bit borked LOL

thats another thing I have noticed over time is the odd car (like REV) being down as 30 December which I have always wondered why is that, unless I have a fundamental misunderstanding of the Gregorian calendar, December always ends on the 31st!

its obviously clear that the system is just plucking the last day of the given year, so why do some come back as 30th rather then 31st, this smacks to me as some sort computer system thing, ya know like leap year corrections and all that, but I dont really know what it might be exactly

I’m willing to bet serious money on someone hardcoding “day” field where it’s unknown to numerical “365” without actually bothering to implement a check if the year is a leap year. This is resulting in date being shifted to 30th as opposed to 31st for any leap year.

Same method of “oh fuck it, it works” was implemented over here when they decided registration certificates really shouldn’t expire - they set the expiration date to 31.12.9999. For added laughs, they are still printing 31.12.9999. on every single registration certificate issued years after they implemented this solution, as they didn’t change the form of the certificate itself. 😂

Look what is between the mineral wagons and passenger coach.

It is from a Video about steam on the Great Western. The location or year are not named, but on a branch line somewhere in the Thames Valley area I think.

Oh sweet! first blue and white Invacar Mk12 I have seen moved by rail I have seen 1 or 2 later ones including a Mk12c in close relation to @Mrs6C's own

p378988676-3.jpg

but your spot is the first white and blue earlier type I have seen by rail, so thats neat to see :)  going the features of that Mk12 in that shot, I would date it/the scene to around the mid 1960's, ~1963 to about March 1967~

just went to message the seller of the Model 70 currently on eBay and got this!

Probably cheaper than proper train buffers 🤷

Because cloning is such a problem in Model 70 ownership. 🤣

Number plate will only be divulged to the new owner.

interesting! that one looks like its been stood/dumped since coming out of ministry service and not touched at all, its funny i have noticed in recent times, every time 1 Model 70 gets chucked on eBay, at least 2 more follow it :) its like buses!

(I see the missing side window glass is on the grass, careful where you step!)

Not a cheap repair to have done, but a DIY prospect for the impecunious, especially if a fellow Model 70 owner can be persuaded to allow a mould to be taken of the roof panel.

well that's bollox isn't it? you cant do that doovla account thing without a passport

Many things are getting harder with the DVLA.. I'm now being asked for factory records as well as a dating certificate and letter from the owners club for an age related plate for my Argson... No factory records are known to exist so I'm screwed... I'd advise anyone hoping to get an invalid carriage of any type on the road that doesn't have a V5 to be aware that you might not be able to.

Posted

Two out of three may be accepted I'd hazard?

With regards the 'factory records' I'd scrape together every bit of primary information (copies of original stuff about the company and it's relevant models) into a 'dating' dossier to send off - if none of that exists try any relevant sections out of any book on the marque. I'd also add in some photos of the vehicle if they don't have then already?

If that all fails lobby your MP. Also get FIVA involved:

Do the local vehicle registration records still exist from before the DVLA was invented? If they do they'll probably be in council archives. A copy of the relevant page is pretty much gospel.

Some do - some don't. It depends on the record office - some survive for London I know .

really? I was under the impression that London sadly explicitly destroyed all their records and only one register is known to survive LT 4001-4400 of 1917

Posted

Yes that's the one surviving.

But I was looking up a 1950's Austin Sheerline I was interested in - in the Metropolitan Archive records - and I managed to find details of the first registration of the car etc. But I now can't remember how I did it!

Maybe my defective memory but I recall finding information. Always worth sleuthing about.

Smells scammy to me. The location looks like the Great British Car Journey, who were very excited to add that Invacar to their collection so I can't see why they'd be selling it so soon and with such a poor description.

I see the seller has updated it with more pictures, it is indeed most certainly that one, how curious! sadly eBay still is not letting me message the seller, eBay is still saying

Hello Everyone , Newbie here, please be gentle...!   I've just bought the Model 70 that was on EBay in the field....as a disabled bloke I was issued one by the then DHSS when they were current until it was recalled I think in about 2003??,  But I actually missed it.  I've been reading through the forum the last couple of days.... Waiting for My membership to be approved.... The Invacar arrives tomorrow, it was picked up today....it's on a pallet in the back of a van....that's the name sorted...'Pallet'

I know some of the history with it, if anyone is interested?  From what I've read unusually the chassis plate is still there...!!

@lightbulbfun  I know it's a massive ask? Would you kindly help me find out the registration number please?  I see you've been so helpful for others in the same situation!  Thank you in advance...

Here's some photos for now... All the best... Fred

Excellent! Welcome to the fold. Did the person who retrieved your Model 70 remember to pick up the sliding door glass that was on thr ground, leaning up against the RHS door? If not, you might want to arrange for that to be rescued and sent on to you...

Hello Fred! Welcome to the forum! its awesome to have you as part of our group! I would love to hear your stories as someone who as a period Invalid vehicle user :) do you recall the registration mark of the vehicles you used in period? :) espically as it sounds like you where on the last users, as you say officially the scheme came to an end on the 31st of March 2003, (although the last machine was not actually withdrawn until the 14th of October 2004, TJN352R "belonging' to Marion Webb)

its awesome to hear you picked up the eBay Field Car! I would love to hear about the history you have of it :)

ill drop you a personal message about whats what with regards to reuniting your Model 70 with its identity :)
