in better REV news, I have been informed the kingpin and bushes have been refitted and everything buttoned back up! I am very pleased to hear this, as this has been one of REV's longer-standing issues that was first noticed all the way back in 2021! so I am glad to see the end of it so to speak :)

 

and with that Duncan discovered the fun that is the Model 70 fasteners!

Well, when I say straightforward I was leaving out the best part.  The 2 bolts holding the steering arm onto the hub were shorter than I would have liked for the job they’re supposed to do.  And they weren’t in the best of condition so I thought I would just replace them as a matter of course.  I wasn’t convinced they were UNF but at that age I doubted that they’d be metric.  Sure enough the UNF bolt did not want to go in more than a thread so I thought they must be metric after all.  Wrong.  So I got my thread gauge out and found they were 22 TPI ( threads per inch ).  BSF.  BS fucking F !!  Sure enough, I got out my box of BSF / BSW taps and the 5/16 tap ran straight through the holes.  I know we’re not dealing with a 21st century vehicle but BSF went out with flat caps & outside water closets.  I can only think of one other garage within a 63.8 mile radius that would have a tub of BSF / Whitworth bolts to rake through to get a couple of suitable replacements.  The ones I found in my stock are also a higher grade than those I took out so I'm happy with that.

however in the course of putting things back together, this was noticed!

because one of the things written in the parts manual is


"STY403 Steering top plate (C/W 2x 5/16" BSF bolt x 3/4" long packed in sets) NOTE: For use with Left hand Steering lock when LP 1161 wheels (Store STY 474) are fitted"

(Dunlop LP 1161 wheels are the standard 10 inch Mini 21A2744 wheels that later Model 70's like REV have)


The thing, I have never been able to figure out what "Left hand steering lock" actually is! It’s not listed anywhere else in the parts manual apart from that note, but I have to wonder if the steering lock, is what Duncan has just made himself?

I think this might be something @Zelandeth you might want to check on TPA, especially as TPA is on 10 inch wheels when she started out life on 12 inch wheels

Great to see REV getting really decent attention to detail. At least that way you've got the maximum chance of some semblance of reliability when you finally find yourself back behind the handlebars again.

That BSF  "1/2 inch and a bit !   "   combo spanner , comes in handy quite often i find ?  It's always right  at the bottom of my toolbag ...

I have one back at you in that regard, in that I recently found out that K155 xxx registrations where where often withheld  from issue, and only very rarely actually issued in period, (im guessing because K155 = Kiss) not something I actually realised because of one certain Mondeo  :)

Wow, that's cool - I can now put 'valuable plate' if I ever sell it! KI55 HAR  = Kiss her would have been even better (as HAR was some of the press fleet)/

@LightBulbFun I spotted an Invacar (or AC Model 70) in Chartham Hatch (just outside Canterbury) this evening.  Parked at a house that has a significant car collection.  It was too dark to make out any details I'm afraid but it looked like it was missing headlights.  Couldn't make out the registration but I'll try next time I go past.  Body looked like it was in very good condition.

K155 HAR exists as a cherished plate on a Harley and is in the middle of a block of Peugeots. The lowest Ford I've found is K205 HAR (a blue Escort 1.3 LX) and it looks like the Ford block ran right to the end at K998 HAR.

Have you been reading Mr Del Mar's book? K155 VJU is another of those rare exceptions illustrated. Something else I read there and didn't realise is that K111 is forbidden from issue, presumably because it looks too much like KILL.

thats very interesting! that does not actually line up with any Model 70 that I am aware of, I look forward to seeing anymore details you can grab next time round :)

a bit more then read the book, I have been in direct communication with him for a little bit now :) 

it turns out when he went to the Coventry archives to look at their registration records, even tho he himself is not an IC enthusiast per say, he noticed the large blocks of Tippen Delta's and made note of the earliest blocks and the last blocks, data which he very kindly shared with me and has proven to be most awesome to have

it will be getting a write up in its own time, but it confirmed I was very much correct/on the right track when it came to my Tippen Delta block finding, and has provied me with a wealth of additional information, especially on the early blocks

 

and confirmed that indeed OVC412H-OVC511H was both the last block of Petrol Tippen Delta's but the last block period, before Fred Miller Limited took over with their rebuilding scheme

 

I then proceeded to blow Mr Mar's mind when I told him Tippen Delta's could reverse :) he says Non reversibles is exactly how its described by coventry themselves so he finds its (very understandably so) very curious that Delta's could indeed reverse :)  

 

I have got another for him like that which I have yet to pass on, but its funnily enough also with regards to Tippen Delta's the Fred Miller Tippen Delta machines, its well known on these beige pages those are petrol machines rebuilt and re-registered anew into electric machines, but note, ATD567J for example, is *not* in Lancashire's rebuilt series, none of the rebuilt Tippen Delta's are :)

Oh cool! :) if you double right click a video, at least for me, it gives me the option to copy/save the video frame like so :)

Hello! its awesome to see your still about! HEV is looking splendid :) very awesome to see its gotten some good TLC :) 

thank you for keeping us in the loop so to speak I am very much looking forward to seeing further progress :) 

 

BTW please do hold onto HEV's original British number plates if you can, keep them somewhere safe, as they are of a style unique to the Invacar Mk12, you may of noticed the rear number plate had circular cutouts for the rear lights, and the front plate is oversized with centre middle fixing, very few Invacar Mk12's do retain their original plates like this, so it would be good to make sure HEV's are preserved :)

A friend had K155 MUD on his XR600(maybe) trail bike, he transferred it off as he kept getting stopped by the police as they thought it was a made up number

Yeah it looks like it's split. If it's split it should be an MOT fail although a lot of testers are blind to TRE dust covers.. :)

I don't think that is an authentic representation of how these vehicles were transported, and if they were they sure as shit wouldn't have been lashed down like that.

I think they were transported like that. I'm sure I've seen photos of them on railway forums on flat wagons with the straps across the windscreen. Seems a very odd way to lash them down but no doubt there was a reason and Dez will be along shortly to explain it :)
