LightBulbFun's Invacar & general ramble thread, index on page 1, survivors lists on Pages 24/134 & AdgeCutler's Invacar Mk12 Restoration from Page 186 onwards, still harping on...

so! Page 300! *pulls on beige coloured party popper* be honest how many of y'all thought this would all fizzle out by page 7 or something

for this special occasion ill post just the 1 photograph, but one very awesome photograph!

ac-car-invacar-invalid-car.thumb.jpg.f158b8a4aa29ccea38b019f7d6e3cc8c.jpg

that of the AC works sometime in ~1970, not only is it just awesome to see all the Model 67's being worked on, but also note the 5 Prototype Model 70's (theres a challange  see if you can find them all!) hanging around the place!

which is really awesome to see! as there not many photographs of the Model 70's development at all sadly

also of note of is the couple Model 57/64's being produced, I have mentioned said in the past that for a brief period in time AC Produced the Model 57/64 67 and 70 at the same time! and that in theory you could really mess with the historians by lining them up in reverse registration order

IE a K Suffix Model 57 a J suffix Model 67 and a H suffix Model 70! :) (as well as an S suffix Tippen Delta!)

so its quite fun to see an actual photograph of that almost :)

but also this photograph is significant in that where I found it was from AC's own website! obviously the current owners of the AC Brand have no clue what they have here but, the significance here is its often been said that no records for AC's invalid vehicle exploits, exist, however theres plenty of talk about AC Cobra this, Factory records that, Chassis numbers this car CSX this that and the other, and this always got me thinking given that factory records for the AC Cobra and the such like exist still

makes me wonder if the Invalid vehicle records do still exist and that just no one really cares about them or noticed them, are they just sitting at the bottom of the pile? and the the fact this photo has come to light, give me hope in that regard! so I am in the process of chasing this photo up so to speak! see if I can tug on it and find out where exactly it leads too/came from! and hoping that it will reveal a bunch more, but time will tell on that still chassing it up!

but again page 300! 300 pages of me mostly me rambling on about funny blue 3 wheelers! and everyone else who has come along for the ride :)  (despite the fact passenger carrying is forbidden!)

Spoiler

Oh and for @barrett a Cheeky little Harper :)

@LightBulbFun  Seen this?  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266126655933   Very tempting !!

indeed I have, I am the reason its got its original registration mark/ID back, what a fun clusterfuck that was to sort out :) ended up speaking to about 5 different Irish men in about 5 hours, just chasing up who had ended up with it when it first came to light, I was probably unknowingly chatting to @Datsuncog at one point LOL

'tis a real shame, and there I am throwing all these hours at trying to stick exactly to original. I'm surprised there seem to be quite a few bidders, I suppose with time and patience it could be brought back to original spec bar the fact it'd have to be painted.

Yeah for £4.5K I would purchase TPE285S for much less then that and spend all the left over change restoring it :)

New brake light switch fitted, brakes bled and re adjusted, it’s still a little flakey but works better than before, I’ve discovered a tiny leak from the front cylinder which could be the issue as it might not have enough pressure in the system to light the lights, just a theory though.

here’s a vid I managed to record today, not fantastic due to the cheap phone mount.

https://youtu.be/laI4tod0k9Q

also I was using the side sights as brake lights as I recorded this before I swapped the switch around.

That's a public domain photo and has been online for a long time so is one of the most commonly seen all over the web and has been in this thread several times already. IIRC it used to appear on the Wikipedia page for Invacars but isn't there now.

All excited now…. The DVLA have confirmed that they have my v765 application for RDE 364 in with the letter from Simon of the IRC… they reckon I’m looking at 6 weeks.

whilst I’m waiting I’m going to try and fabricate from scratch a new series/parallel switch out of tufnol and brass bar and save up for some 6v batteries…. Wish me luck

Awesome she goes well! and I can hear the CVT system changing ratios pretty smoothly which is a good sign! :)

(BTW I noticed you seem to upload your videos with the "is this made for kids?" check box ticked, this causes youtube to turn off comments on your videos just an FYI incase your not aware of that

Awesome to hear DVLA stuff with RDE346 (which I assume is the mark you meant! or is there a 2nd Argson now? ) is progressing, ill be sure to keep an eye on things from my eye and let ya know when it becomes DVLA live :)

I just hope they correctly get the body type down as invalid vehicle!

I’d kill for my old Lada back, we had so many adventures together but Rust collector is happy with her and isn’t interested in owning an Invacar at this point in time which is fair enough.

speaking of Model 70's for sale TPG the port hole never made reserve and thus guy is keeping it, gonna try again in summer apparently, so much for the person who bid it up to £7600 last time being genuine!

I’d love one at some point, but right now the Lada is a good fit as a useable classic without too much compromise what with being a four door 🙂

I did see your invacar in a spotted group on Facebook today @Harriytait, thought it looked brilliant out on the road. Kudos for getting it back on the road and in decent shape!

Lol I wouldn’t know how else to do it. I did think of 3D printing but as you can see from the eroded brass, its taken some heat in its time and I think 3D printed stuff would melt…..

Yah its the Pembrokeshire car the one that suffered an engine fire, but I believe it and a Lorry are the only vehicles that made it out of that field!

here is when it was rescued

https://autoshite.com/topic/32723-lightbulbfuns-invacar-general-ramble-thread-index-on-page-1-survivors-lists-on-pages-24134-adgecutlers-invacar-mk12-restoration-from-page-186-onwards-brian-braves-the-byways/page/260/?tab=comments#comment-2519260

indeed its a proper basket case I think most of the rear chassis is no longer, although the engine was said to be in pretty good shape!

speaking of basket cases! I got another update from Red5 on REV, he thinks he may of finally sussed the brake issues, after disassembling and reassembling the rear brakes about a million times swapping components about

he discovered that one of the wheel cylinder castings was slightly out of shape and every now and then binding up so he has shaved that down and is going to put things back together and hopefully thats the issue resolved!

although it was worth noting that for me both rear brakes would bind up equally the same, so I told him to also check the same on the other-side (since I dont think one brake cylinder binding up on the back plate would cause the other side to also lock up would it?)

but hopefully thats the end of the brake issues! however things do need to be tested out first! so Ill await for the progress report on that before calling it sorted!
