The 106 was bought with 18,000 miles, now on 21,000 with FSH. 954 cc, carburettor, nice and simple, comfortable, fun to drive. Speedo has just stopped working, in common with every other similar period PSA erratic speedo car I've had.

The 2CV has earlier panels fitted / welded in, glavo chassis; I fitted a super smooth recon engine, which was built up by a retired old style engineer called Mal in Redditch. Bought it from a dealer, had been garaged for ten years, used as a dog kennel, would love to know how it achieved an 'MoT' before I bought it. I've been hands on with 2CVs for 40 years this year and, despite owning many over the decades, still have a love / hate relationship with 'em. But, they're addictive; best ones are tatty, no time for all of this car show concours type stuff.

Pic of recon 2CV motor in the back of the Daihatsu en route from Redditch to E Sussex.

My previous '67 Dyane, which is now up in Durham in the safe hands of a friend; in company with the Minor which replaced it.

The trusty Charade in mid-Wales; these are fantastic, well built, economical, fun to drive; seriously unheard of, and relatively cheap to buy.

'57 Minor; 1098 engine, box, rear axle, brakes, interior; found for a bargain price.

I love them all.

Hi All

Finally got round to joining this forum after posting in the FB group for quite a while now...

I'm James, 26, live in Leeds.

Unfortunately my current shite only really extends to a few old land rover (which are debatable as to whether they are actually shite)...but always on the look out for something interesting to add to the collection.

Thanks for adding me!

If a new Landrover is fairly shite then any old Landrover fits the bill for shiteness. Welcome !

That old ambulance has been sitting at our local Cit Specialists, Tony Weston, for ages, if not years... not sure if it's scrap or just on a long waiting list of stuff to be done... Fantastic place though - always willing to do the nastiest French car jobs for a reasonable sum....

I really must get around to paying a visit. Especially as my XM's spheres aren't in the best of health.

Hello Shiters,  A long term lurker from Dundee. Current fleet is a certain very small Lancia hatchback from the 80s.  It has many predictable issues regarding the flow of electrons and oxidisation.   Its not a fast Y10, just a white Fila.

Hi all,

I'm Jo and I'm another long term lurker that has finally got around to joining.

For my sins I'm the proud owner of a selection of the British car industry's finest, a Rover Mini Cooper Sport, Austin Metro, Jaguar XJR-6 and a Rover 75...

Do any (or all?) of these count as Auto Shite?

There are alot of folks who would say so, though i do not.

All of those are acceptable - though the Mini qualifies mainly on how rusty these later ones get! I love that colour.

Posted

The Mini is Volcano Orange, it was only avalible on the Mini and MGF in 1997, though a slightly different shade was used again a couple of years later, i've seen a couple of MG ZT's running about in it. Could there be a more 1970's inspired colour scheme?

And if anything later Mini's rust with even more enthusiasm than the older ones do. It seems to be more around the scuttle panels on the later cars judging by what i saw when looking to buy, admittedly a good few years ago!

I have regular 'discussions' with those (many) who are not fans...

I dont love them, but they earn coin.  I do get upset with people who are down on the customers who choose them though.  Its a little bit silly.

Hi all,

I certainly qualify as I own a 2001 Mercedes A170 CDi Auto LWB , a total bag of shite if ever there was one and one Mercedes should hang their heads in shame over, especially the crap automatic gearbox, probably why the 'new' A-class is so far removed from the original design so it looks like a BMW 1 class, Astra, Megan, etc.

It's a bloody shame because as a utility vehicle with removable rear seats and flat floor like a van it is a very handy car and comfortable and economical too, nice drive.

Been associated full time with the automotive/motorcycle game since 1965 but was bought up on my father's tool box so to speak since I rode my first motorcycle at 4 and 'drove' my grandfathers Austin when I was 5, (into a bunch of trees and jammed it in so they had to get a tractor to pull it out backwards). Competed in motorcycle trials, scooter racing and rallies in the 60s and 70s and car rallies in a Skoda 1200 Grp A in the 80s.

I starting my mechanics life in Trojan works, Purley way, Croyden where we made Elva McLaren cars, on alloy chassis for  F2, F3 and Grp 12 race cars and Lambretta UK, as well as Iso Grifo Italian muscle cars.

After a few years mainly on Lambrettas and tuning, racing and rallying them I moved onto Honda and then Kawasaki motorcycles with what is now Frazer's of Gloucester, and privetly at home general cars repairs and customising and some kit cars restorations before in 1987 I joined the MoD in their 'special projects' department, shhh.  before starting my own business in 1991 as a car security and audio installer and did that until 2000 when I moved, (with my Eagle SS) to Southern Spain where I have lived ever since and continue spannering away at 69 years old and have become something of an expert on buggy’s for the off road buggy tour industry here and still do a bit of part time work.

I also run the Eagle Owners Club forum as well as being on several other forums worldwide, mostly VW and Nova/Eagle/Stirling based.

Other cars are 1987 BMW e30 320i pre facelift, I have an all original 4 door auto one.

A 1987 Mercedes 2.3-16v Cosworth which I am in the process of giving away to pay the 6 years back tax.

A 1994 Opel Corsa Sport, which is the wife’s daily drive.

and of course my Eagle SS VW based kit car (Ukhozi, which is Zulu or "Black Eagle"), which is nearing the end of a 15 year redesign and restoration program where I ma attempting to introduce modern stuff like the electric actuators in the gull wing doors and electrical sytems like keyless entry, self start etc, whilst keeping the car original.
