Do not paint.

Do not restore in any way.

Drive and enjoy.

Here ends my involvement with this thread, I'm just too damn jealous to go on.

That’s what the boy is going to do Eddy, he’s spent most of the weekend driving and having fun in my Triumph but is looking forward to getting the Cougar road legal, I don’t think it will need much for its MOT!

Oh wow, just wow. That is just superb. The thinking man’s Mustang. Absolutely love the colour, too.

Mrs Skizzer now wants to know how come we’ve got loads of cars but haven’t got a hot one like that.

I have an example of said crap fwd Ford for middle aged men and opened this thread with some excitement.

Which was then exceeded.

Noice!

Top bombing!

Now that is one class car. I thought for one minute it was going to be the horrible Cougar, not the mega cool one.

You tried to hide it all from us but just behind that BMW Mini there's clearly a Horsey Horseless.

Nah, its just a Mini Moke.     (obscure Aust. ref.)

Anyhoo, that Cougar is doubly awesome for being the same colour as the Matchbox toy that fired my awareness of these fabulous cars.   Just superb.

Thanks for all the kind replies all, James is looking forward to getting all the wheels off the car during the coming week and checking the brakes over before MOT time, I think just a fluid change will be all that’s needed, he’s willing and good on the tools which is good because I’m finding it increasingly more difficult to do this stuff!

We’ve both driven the car on the private driveway of the Estate where it’s being stored just for the moment and it’s a delight, you just can’t beat an old V8....

The thinking man’s Mustang.

Always preferred this era of Cougar to the contemporary Mustang.  Like Mercrocker, something to do with a Matchbox purchase in about 1971...

Who cares?  He had the good sense to get the attractive version of the Mustang and that's all that matters.

Bugger. I really thought this was the car from Roadhouse but on googling, that was a Riviera.

Amazing car though. When I saw the thread title I assumed it was a Ford.

Tremendous work. Please do a full road test.

Make sure it is well rustproofed though if he's going to drive it in the rain!

That's amazing , I don't remember the Matchbox Cougar but the Dinky was one of my favourite , although as a kid I always thought it was the same size as an Eldorado, came as a shock later in life to find it was Mustang sized.post-17414-0-23407400-1530521911_thumb.jpeg

Joloke mentioning her Mustang , made me realise I didn't know what happened to the Cougar when the Mustang went on a diet, seems Mercury Division didn't get the memo!

Looks T-Bird/ Continental based.

That looks fantastic; what a car for a 19 year old! Great your lad is keen with the tools and has lots of time for classic metal.

Get that cavity wax out! Looking forward to more photos and updates.
