Yes and the dangerous thing is I know of two more in a farmyard near me and another which has sat under a car cover for the last few years!

Well I certainly won't be respraying it for a year or two but I do need to treat and touch up all the little rust scabs which have formed. It won't be concors but it should be a presentable usable car.

Yay, another Maxi lives! I'm guessing this one is Hydrolastic as 1978 was the changeover year.

Get some yacht varnish on the paint to preserve that finish, and when the hydrolastic units sag you can pop along to a Dubber meet and be belle of the ball!

 

Seriously quality save. That car in that condition reminded me of the mid eighties where every other BL Car looked like that

Yes a late hydralastic one although I had a 1978 one before which was the last of the hydralastic. Yes of course but with the blood, sweat (not all mine) and tears (and money) expended on this one it will be some way off yet. There were a glut of "project" Maxi's for sale on ebay just before Christmas something I hadn't seen for a few years. The owners club classified page usually has one or two for sale, this is where I saw this one.

Thanks for all the encouraging words, I cannot really take any credit for the mechanical work done as most of it was done by my garage but going forward (I hate that expression) I will shall be spending some time tidying her up and attempting some mechanical repairs if they arise.

My dad had one the same colour,I think on a v plate,when I was a toddler,he had a brown&primer one at the same time,which somewhere I have pics of,c.1990, the orange one was apparently taken for an mot where the tester asked how far he had driven it there,as he shouldn't really let him drive if back... And it was only ten years old! Incidentally my grandad worked at long bridge in the 70s,and had a succession of maxis,no other bl cars,maybe he knew something?

Cheers it was the first time I have really used filler. Touching up the paint is probably where I will make a pigs ear of it!

May be a little late, only by 6 years or so, but everyone will be glad to know that UFA is back on the road now after a bit of work. Been tracking down parts for a while now and it’s time to get it back on the road and a bit healthier with some new carbs and exhaust

Cool motor the Maxi, BL really could've had a winner on their hands there..

I still reckon a sporty  GT version would've been a good image boost.

Nice to see one looking like they did when I was a kid & they were just old cars in regular use.
