What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I followed an immaculate H-reg Daihatsu Fourtrak on my way home today, and wished I had a dash-cam set-up to capture its magnificence. I still see a fair few about (including a fantastically shabby pick-up in the Brecon Beacons yesterday) but can't remember the last time I saw one that tidy.

Extra yay two job interviews on Thursday now!!!!!

This know leads to a mini dilemma. Say I was offered both (I know I can live in hope) do I take the job at the bigger company further away where the job is just initially prepping cars for painting or do I go with the smaller newer company where I will get to do more?

Both deal in classic cars

Oh and I forgot, thought I don't know how, I got to drive this yesterday, very nice

Smaller, newer, nearer and more interesting wins hands down surely?   Less commute, more chance to show what you can do and get varied experience sounds much better than a lot of sanding.

Last night i took the plastic grill off the reliant, so i could remove the water from the headlamp and dry it out. The four screws were a bit rusty, so i sanded them and painted them black. I was asked but a passer by what i was doing and the reply was "whats the point". The reply was "because my standards are higher than yours". He smiled and walked on  :-D

When the neighbour's children ask me what I'm doing when lying under the car or head under the bonnet, I say " just playing". They have no idea you can even check pressures and pump up tyres at home!

When my neighbour sees the car jacked up, or the bonnet open, he usually adopts a pained expression and asks me if it's going to be expensive. I really can't be arsed explaining that I service it myself, so just shrug and disappear inside for a cuppa.

Today I was quite literally amazed by the ingenuity of the Victorians*

I wonder if I could re-programme it to say 'Papa' and 'Nicole' instead of 'Papa' and 'Mama'

*I say Victorians but this is not British, probably German made after earlier French designs but it is late 19th century.

Went to auction at Hucknall last night. Bought a raleigh sensor road bike for 2 quid. Someone has painted it yellow though. And I mean wheels, chain, derailleur etc. Can't complain for money though

Sounds like that bike was once by the side of the TdF route. Fuckloads of yellow bikes everywhere round by me

Yes, here too. There's still some strapped to gable ends etc.

One of the companies i have the pleasure* of dealing with no longer take phone calls. You have to use online chat!

I have just dealt with someone called Pen?? After 15 mins he could not help and gave me a number to call, you could not make this up!

What was funny was when he was "chatting" this came up at the bottom of the screen "Pen is typing" i miss read it as penis typing, was laughing to myself for ages

Does that mean your dash cam has failed? Or it wasn't set up that day? Mobius wide angle, right? My Mobius standard lens is still going strong. Highly recommended.

Yeah well, Pen and 15 minutes has quite a subliminal ring to it, doesn't it?

:-D so it does, that was after waiting 20 or so minutes in the chat queue.

I have never set it up as a dash cam. I really can't be arsed. There's no point hard-wiring one in, as I rarely keep a car for longer than five minutes. Also, I generally have at least two different cars to drive. The camera is still fine, I just don't use it very often.

Saw a tube train on the m40!

Looks like the old D class stock that they are touting as replacements for the pacers up here. Apparently it's cheaper to re-engine this old shite for us northerners than provide proper trains...

It was heading north! Maybe it thought it was a volvo? Didn't get the name of the company on the cab, was too busy pulling into l2 at 35mph as I missed several gaps and someone did flash me, but I figured he was doing 65 so still booted it, out accelerated him and back into l1!

I'm sure there's something in the ebay thread that a £328 budget would satisfy.

I picked up some good basic frames today and found that my gallery* in the hall is a bit full now.

So I set up an overflow gallery* in the living room to hide as much of the boring magnolia wall as possible.  Need to complete a few more pieces to make use of the other frames I've bought, I can sensibly get another 9 on this wall and then use it as framed stock rotation to supplement the unframed stuff.

I've also dropped into the council offices to ask about the costs for one of their outdoor stalls, if that's affordable I'm hoping I can have a little stall once a month and hopefully sell some prints and stuff.  In general, work is on the up at the moment and the sunny weather is making me feel really positive about things.

Can you do bigger stuff? I reckon something like the pop-art style metro on a large scale would look cool.

I get asked if I can do bigger pictures a lot, fact is I can't.  Maximum size I can create an original is A2 due to not having the space to work larger. The maximum size I'm comfortable working at is A3, I don't really like drawing or painting big.  Then there's the added complication of costs, once you get above A3 the time and materials involved pushes the price up and I'm yet to find anyone willing to pay for anything above A3 even if it's something they want rather than something I've created.

I stick to what I know works.  I imagine something like the Metro pic would enlarge pretty well from a high resolution scan and it could then be printed on a much larger canvas.  I haven't the capital to invest in that yet, big canvas prints are really expensive, especially so if you don't even know if it will sell... and then there's the issue of where on earth I'd store it safely.

An absolutely miserable cold is ruining the lovely weather for me. Instead of enjoying the sunshine I am wallowing in self pity and mucus. Still in the grin thread because I've been watching the entire run of That 70s Show, and look what just turned up:
