What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

This has made me smile this week, despite the grumps on the grumpy thread: I'm studying engineering at the OU, & because of the threat of redundancy at the end of March was possible, I'm attempting what accounts for a full 2nd year(both courses run February to October - it's an OU thing). So how did I manage to top more than 70% in the second continuous assessment for both courses, despite not having the time to apply myself fully to the courses as I'm still working? F*** knows, but it's made me feel good!

1) I got a 9 pack of Kit - Kats 2 weeks back, which all (yes all 9 of them) were biscuitless! Actually I started to miss the biscuit by the third one. I'd have bought a bar if I'd wanted chocolate only.2) Glad you guys are having a good week. I've been off work with a stinking cold. Could possibly have gone back in today but I've managed sod all sleep. When I start to doze off, I cough myself awake. This must be the worst cold I've had for many many years (25 at least). :( 3) I pay my road tax for the very early morning run down to dover to catch a ferry. Then a few hours to relax and reflect on how nice it was before driving off in dunkirk to (usually) enjoy a day of considerate drivers with an understanding of lane discipline. Clearly not france then.... Actually France may not be the best, but they're still better than here.

Rover just aced the MOT. The Man from the Ministry complimented the car. :D:D:D

Popped down the local Polish bar last night for a couple of ales & lo & behold they had an offer on - £1.50 for a pint bottle of 7% (yes, thats right, 7%!) Polish lager. I thought it would taste a bit nasty but was lovely.

It's always weak lager that tastes like pish.

There are loads of Polish people round here, so all of the many minimarkets stock excellent Polish beers. And sausages. :D

I actually had a good day at college today, despite the best efforts of one teacher. I also learnt (by accident) the huge flaw one certain 80s/90s hatchback has regarding certain switches... I dont believe Im saying this but Ill miss college when its done.

The Arriva bus lot have inexplicably done a "spoof" of the Virgin Atlantic advert (bit late for that?) to promote the main Wakefield/Leeds bus service. The entire thing is a shambles. From the terrible stock music, to the dreary-looking people, even the destination board seems hand-picked towards the most grim locations you could imagine. It is utterly hopeless!

However, it has provided me with more entertainment than Arriva could possibly imagine.

hahaha, thats fecking hilarious!!

That made me LOL and generate a not inconsiderable snort!

Haha, that music on the Arriva vid is ace/pathetic. Good find Hirst..Always thought Arriva sounded a bit rubbish and then Norwich Union went and copied it with their 'Aviva' crap.

Agreed, the Polish do know how to brew a good drop. Also, todays scrappy visit yeilded two wings, bumper, grill and about 162 useful nuts, etc for £35. 8)

Thrashing the Innocenti down a local back road this afternoon and being closely followed by two chaps in an A-reg Audi 80 - so closely I could almost lip read them in my mirror as they discussed what the feck the Innocenti was...Then overtaking a line of three cars on the way home - which can be a scary prospect on a winding B-road with only 30bhp - and discovering that, in the best tradition of small carburetted Japanese engines, it doesn't have a rev limiter - there's no tacho in the car, but working it out from the redline speeds given in the handbook, 65mph in third equates to around 7,800rpm. 3-pot engines sound GR9 at 7,800rpm. :D

Right with you brother, it's a very happy Cav household here with that news. Except the missus who (ashamedly) likes Liverpool.

Just a shame Rangers didn't do the double too but at least they won the Scottish Premier League.

What are they happy about? That there won't be any football on the telly 'til September/October again?Oh hang on. Bugger.

eating bacon and eggs, aye caramba what a combo those two are. decent bacon from the butchers mind you, not that supermarket guff that is 75% piss water, which shrivels up to nowt when you cook it.

Loads of DIY done and finished.Painted the kids playhouse/shed thing so now it looks like a Southend beach hut and also finally got my lawn to regrow where it died over the winter. As well as that I put up a shelf for my OAP neighbour and built her an Ikea cupboard and she was delighted enough to give me a tenner. Shouldnt have taken it but considering I spent £200 of my own hard earned replacing her fence last year, I didnt feel too bad. Plus I spent hours in Ikea getting her the stuff. And thinking about it I used a packet of my metal anchor plugs putting the shelf up so I suppose the tenner covers those. There, payment justified! Its nice to actually do "proper" work for a change. So, me and the Parklets are off to Nanny and Grandad Parkys houses whereupon I will sit down in peace and quiet drinking endless tea watching the Grand Prix whilst the kids drive Grandad barmy for a couple of hours. Cant beat a Sunday!

One of the reasons why I hate football, as soon as a season starts, it's getting cold.

Went to see that RO80 from the eBay tat thread earlier - probably needs a bit too much body work for me to take on, but the seller was a sound chap who had a yard full of assorted gems, including a delightfully scruffy Thema 8.32 that he used as his daily. Livin' the dream, that is.

Excellent! You shouldn't have worried yourself over the bodywork. Looked like it was an ideal candidate for that ever so wonderful Ford V4 engine swap :D

Picking up a package in the boss's Corolla automatic (2006) this morning made me smile, it's been a while since I drove a two-pedal car (over 6 years ago in my sisters Volvo 440 to be exact). Grey & boring car, but kickdown fun all the way!

Just saw this in a 1981 issue of Autocar i picked up at beaulieu for 50p and thought of Hirst.
