after the deal for the reliant went pete tong the other week making me a right grumpy bar steward, it looks like I may have sold 2 motors today and made a few quid profit giving me a reasonable amount of dosh for the next chod.

Good to see it back in action. Did you eventually sell the other Astra? I seem to remember it something like a V6 engine in it or something?

 

Yes, I sold that about three years ago to a young lad who promptly stoved it into the back of a bus the next day.

Our dog has just 'done a Fenton' on me. Let him off the lead, he gave me a backwards glance then pegged it big time. The two families out walking seemed to find some fat middle aged bloke wheezing away in full pursuit quite amusing. I caught the little blighter after a couple of hundred yards as he'd stopped to smell something.

 

This is why when I walk dogs for the Trust I won't let them off the lead even when I want to, as they're often a bit wound up anyway and are an unknown quantity you just can't be sure they'll come back!  When on the beach with a particularly excitable mongrel who desperately wanted to go in the sea I had a couple of women come up to me to 'meet' the dog and suggest I let him off as he was so keen to go in.  Realised it probably looked like I was being a bit mean unless you knew why!

 

I'm wondering what would happen if hairnet, TooSavvy and af1 collaborated on a post.

Gave the daily a bit of a spin today out to town. It's been used to bimble to and from work, and as it never really gets to properly warm up on the journey, it gets driven gently, doesn't usually make it much over 1500 RPM.

 

Got onto an open stretch of back road and planted the pedal into the carpet.

 

5.3 litres of V8 opening up to 6000 RPM, leaving a fairly dense cloud of Italian tune-up behind, singing away up to 85 mph.

 

Continued to plod along at 55 thereafter, running merrily on 4* with that "feels like a Corsair" vibe.

 

Best thing yet, by the middle of January it'll be paid off :D

I've just been offered a Rover 45 as a leveller for a very expensive road bike I have.

 

USP?

 

'This is my dads acr and last year he sprnt £800 getting the head gasket done which was the lotus gasket so it should never go again'

Cavette, whenever you walk your dog, keep treats in your pocket and give him/her one every 40 yards or so. It'll be a pain in the arse as the thing will constantly be looking up at your hand, but after a few walks the dog won't leave your side. If the dog gets away, when you get it back, give it something to eat, and they will never run away. Unless there's sheep or another dog, in which case it'll just run round and round in circles until it runs out of energy.

Oh aye, we tried that. He sort of half-arsedly went along with it, then got bored and spotted a couple of other dogs and ran off a bit more. I think he must have that night club mentality where you're throwing a bird some killer lines and doing ok, then you spot someone even fitter on the dance floor and just do one to them instead.

Errr... into the wind glacially, in crosswinds mostly sideways, and away from the wind I ran out of hearing at about 55mph. Nice and warm though despite that massive sliding cab door.

I scored a boxed and complete Tom Tom One for £5.99 in a charity shop today. It's one of the old chunky ones, like this one but with an even chunkier mount, but it seems to work just fine.

I scored a broken NAvman on ebay for £6 including postage a while back. The guy said it only works plugged in.

So...purchased new battery and bingo.

What a strange beast - Busview gives no operator before 2004 so where on earth did it spend its early life and how old is it? Bodywork is by Chassis Developments apparently but it doesn't look like any of their other Transit bodies I've seen.

It carries a Chassis Developments bodyplate dated September '89 but I suspect the chassis is older still - it's the only 4spd Mk3 I've encountered; it was registered and supplied new by Blythswood Motors in Glasgow where I used to work and the lassies in the office remembered it sitting in the showroom in the early '90s. I'll check the V5 but IIRC we're only the third registered keeper. I do know the 42k miles are genuine though so it's never been hard worked.

Just remembered I have a document explaining Ford VINs (sad I know) and this one was apparently built in April 1987 so it's a pretty early Mk3 and sat around unbodied for over 2 years. The first known operator was way down in Cornwall which is odd for a Scottish registered bus now back in Scotland so the mystery deepens. Would be very interesting to see what's on the V5.
