Finding these at the back of a cupboard:

I especially love the one from the (then) local scrapyard. Just, why?

Mr Cavette has bagged the Lada one - if anyone wants any of the others, let me know.

I've also unearthed a box of 8-track cartridges, which made me bitterly regret binning my old Ferguson radio/8track player a couple of years ago. Although it did have weird speaker connections, so I could only listen through headphones. I seem to remember the Mahavishnu Orchestra being especially good after a few ciders...

I don't know what's wrong with me lately, I'm far from being Mister Grumpypants lately:

>After being contacted by Ambulance Chasers Ltd. my housemate has decided, after much deliberation, that he will not be chasing a claim for loss of earnings following a bump last year that cause no injury to anyone but his little car. This makes me very happy because while we could do with the money on offer, morally we're richer for deciding not to make a scurrilous claim.

>Work seems to be on the up, especially so if the recent enquiries evolve into full-blown paid commissions.

>Finally got around to organising all the bits of (mostly Polo) car in the house and reduced the space it was taking up from the dining room and back porch to two stack-a-boxes and the bottom shelf of the back porch cupboard.

>Last night, Absolute Radio 90s played a solid 4 hours of excellent tunes, marred only by a handful of Oasis tracks.

The Lada badge is cool.....I wouldn't mind the Sierra one and the Beaulieu museum one, how much are they?

Just bung a pint of Scrumpy in the post  The Sierra one has somehow lost it's coating, so it's just bare paper on the front and a little scuffed round the edge - the Beaulieu one's fairly minty though. PM me your address, I'll get them off tomorrow (probably, knowing me it'll be next month though)

actually, I best leave them in case someone else wants them....I'll only bung them in drawer and forget about them. If you find a Mk3 Escort one though I could do with it.

Sorry for being a twat... but I really do have too many random collections of stuff.

No worries :D that's how I came to have cupboards full of crap like this in the first place!

Put Cavalier on ebay. Usual "do you have a BIN price m8" questions. Car sells.

In a grand break from tradition, the fella actually showed up last night, poked and prodded, handed over the cash and drove away. No mouth breathing, nothing. I'm truely stunned.

He also has a Calibra V6 and a Mk1 Astra GTE apparantly, and the Cavalier will be his new daily. Sorted.

Hey, completely forgot about that Duke. I'll pm you later if that's ok? Thanks.

Just had a phone call from a motorcycle training place, I put my name down for an hours taster session when I was at teh gadget show on Tuesday.

Signed up for Sunday, everything provided. Already sussed the place out and seen that they do what amounts to a "zero to hero" course for £700 to ride proper bikes on my shitty licence.

I figure they make money on the free hours by it being a good way to hook people and then sell 'em a course but hey, why not?

Expect Monday's update from A&E......

I'm seriously excited about this weekend's double-show shite fest. Pride of Longbridge tomorrow, Citroen X Rally in Lincs on Sunday. The X Rally is for all the shite Citroens - AX, BX, CX, Xantia, Xsara even the Saxo.

I'll be going to the X-rally too Ian.

Will try to bump into you at some point.

Coming in a red XM, leaving in a blue C6.

Jim knows you so I'll get him to keep an eye out.

Cool. Sunday's going to be busy as I'm shooting a BX for a feature but there's also talk of doing a door swap on my BX. And we might change a sphere or two. I think the BX area might end up looking like a rally service park...

Most of the rallies end up like an outdoor, free-for-all service & repair contest :)

Hey, CMS it wasn't a fella called Steven was it? There's some nutcase in Scotland who seems to buy every Cavalier he can get his hands on then tries to offload them for fifteen times what they're worth!

Anyhow glad you got a quick and decent sale, that's definately something to grin about. Alas I can't quite match that with the Corsa as I'm just getting people that mostly seem daft at best so far. Then again I'm not likely to find many Mensa candidates for it am I?!!!!

I don't go to concerts too often these days, but I've got tickets to see Shellac in a tiny venue in May, and Lambchop in a glorious church in November. Can't wait (which is what you have to do if you buy tickets seven months in advance...)!

I just hope my hearing will come back somewhere inbetween the two concerts

Japfest tickets have arrived, and I have a club stand pass. Hooray for show season!

Went to Delamere Forest for a 'short' walk and ended up being there a few hours. As I explained to the bread knife I wasn't lost, I was just geographically challenged.

Being allowed to climb three high up the stack at the local scrappies to get a pair of front seats (for a tender) made me grin muchly today.

Didnt make me grin much last Saturday as I managed to slip between 2 3-piled high cars and crack me kneee badly :( My knee is still swollen but I can walk on it better these days.

Maiking me grin, (for the first time in a while) was meeting a couple more faces from Autoshite (bringing the tally to 5 people now) and driving a couple of Monetegos and a very clean 820Si.

It appears I've won £50 on the office sweepstake on the Grand National. That should pay for a couple part-worn tyres for the Mitsubishi :D

Well, I'm not in A&E!

It actually went really well. Had an hour on a Suzuki EN125-2 which was probably 50 minutes riding with just the basics of where the controls were. I'm pretty sure he wanted to make a point about stalling when he asked me to pull away, but I didn't stall so he let me ride around for a bit whilst he got the other two going. Two instructors to three riders which was pretty good, just pootling around a school playground.

Got it into third, did a slow ride and they reckoned all three of us were at pretty much CBT standard. Also felt like a right boss in the leathers!

My only complaint was that on the 125, it was too short pegs-to-seat to suit my legs, my ankle was caning after the hour because I'm forcing it up to keep off the brake. He sat me on a 500 Suzuki which was much better, so we discussed direct access courses

And the day was rounded off by the other two riders being a pair of fit young girls who turned up together and were pretty obviously, erm, together :P

Not that I enjoyed watching them in their leathers squatting over the 500 or nothing, no way. 29 and 28, Jess and Han. I would, both of them together.

Good result for you both there gents.

You'll love biking when you get going, Pillock. The sense of freedom and adventure on a motorbike or scooter is far nicer than in any car and even short journeys cane be great fun.

Skatt: what size tyres does your car need?

Posted

Cavette: 195 60 15 ... They're ally wheels though so I can't fit tyres myself. I only trust myself on steel wheels, ally is easy to damage with the tools I have access to.

Could 205/60/15s be persauded on one axle?

Had a huge LOL moment earlier the afternoon while driving back from my sister's house. The Police were doing a C&U vehicle check, and had pulled a couple of Barry looking motors.

The officer on my side of the road signalled me to stop, which I duly did.

Cop : "Is this your own car, sir?"

Me : "Yes it is"

Cop : "Your road tax ran out at the end of last month"

Me : "You're quite right, it did indeed"

Cop : "You're not supposed to be on the road if you've no tax"

Me : "I know this"

Cop (looking a little befuddled) : "Well, em..."

Me: "Officer, what year is it?"

Cop: "Ah!"

Me: "Been a long day, has it?"

Cop: "You're not kidding! Sorry about that sir!"
