Why Dylan is seen as God like by those who claim to be music officianados is an utter mystery to me.

Indeed - why it never received more attention I don't know. It's a rare example of a film that offers you absolutely jaw-dropping cinematic techniques, but in such a subtle way, secondary to the actual screenplay, that you only notice just how amazing they are on repeat viewings. And then there's the myriad throwaway art references that should be really pretentious, but aren't. And a bodykitted CX, FFS!!

 

 

I've only seen it the once and that was only a few weeks ago but there's a lot of very deep satire in there that is very subtle.  In fact, the whole film is, as you say, full of subtle touches - most of which were probably lost on me the first time around.  I particularly liked the early scenes in the skyscraper that were just rammed with modern art.  Guernica, etc and how they foreshadowed the rest of the film.  Which is only obvious if you know a little bit about some of the art in there (and I know a tiny, tiny bit).

 

Bloody good film.  Really outstanding.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is enjoyable too IMO.

 

Saying Die Hard is shit to us obviously an inflammatory comment in order to provoke a response, you know everyone loves that film.

 

I do hate Bob Dylan though, so am with you there. I did slowdance with a girl to one of his songs once in the middle of the lounge area in really rough bar in 'Ull but we'd both taken a lot of ecstacy.

Get Carter is an absolute favourite.  For the scenery as much as the rest of it.  Properly grim depiction of 70s Britain, with the right colour palette.  Brilliant.

My lad sorted the emails for me in the end, slowly getting round to putting the same apps on I had on the iPhone now. The picure quality of the Hughie is amazing, got two or three absolute belters of my grandaughter without even trying.

Thanks, that (Gmail) is what my lad set up for me, works with Yahoo it seems, so happy with that. It's a bit different using an Android 'phone after years with iPhones, but pretty confident I'll get used to it.

Magic box so easy to fit even an idiot like me can do it!  All the horrible running problems seem to have disappeared, though starting is no better or worse than ever it was.  It's been a few years since it's run this well, tbh, so I'm hoping it turns out to be a decent long term fix.

Talking of shit films, Under Siege was on the other day. That's the sort of bilge to be watching at Christmas. Needless to say I did.

For those that haven't seen it, Steven Seagull takes on a group of nuclear terrorists posing as a rock band. the terrorists get themselves hired for a party aboard the USS Missouri, a battleship en route to Pearl Harbor for decommissioning. They plan to steal the ship's nuclear arsenal but haven't reckoned on the intervention of the ship's chef, a decorated former Navy SEAL.

 

It also has Erika Eleniak jumping out of a cake with her wabs out.
