Being reminded of the existence of Lunn Poly on Trigger's Ital van thread. Used to love looking through holiday brochures from the local Lunn Poly, especially the Yugotours ones which occasionally had the odd naked lady in them. Very exciting to a 10 year old.

Villmar & Best Travel did too

I found my pet Cobbley, I've had this little lad about 20 years now. Best pet I've ever had.

I have absolutely sod all money left for Christmas.   Even the bonus I "might" get next month will have to pay off credit card bills.   I did buy a few things last pay day to put away but that's it - all anybody is getting is already bought.   Why grin thread?

Cos I spent every fucking penny on my cars!

Bought a Fiesta WBoLD (Little Distinction) to save salting the good stuff.....Put a long-overdue new exhaust system on Mrs Rocker's Merc, poly-bushed the Minor and now replacing all the brake pipes and hoses before it gets a little tickle on the body.   Most of all I have my Cowley back with fresh new rear wheel arch and door skin repair.   Bloody dear but an absolutely superb repair (thanks for the recommendation, Dan the Capri Man!) and one that will see me out.

The best bit was taking the morning off work on a really lame made-up excuse and driving the newly quiet 190E down to Bosham, pick the Cowley up and drive along the coast road in absolutely beautiful winter sunshine before calmly putting all the stuff back in the boot and inside the car and garaging it.    Just having a nice bit of cake and a cup of tea and I will slide back into work about 1pm.

As Pa Larkin had it.....Perfick!

This isn't car related but I just saw that none other than Reading Elvis turned on the Christmas lights this year. There had been a petition for it to happen, quite surprised it actually did.

For those not in the know, he loves Elvis. He tells everyone in the street this. He's done this for 30+ years. Harmless and friendly.

There's a picture of the Queen opening the revamped train station and he somehow managed to get right in shot.

Honda engines are reliable if people actually service the fucking things properly

This includes changing the coolant and doing the valve clearances ( every 27k on 9k intervals )

I would like to see this included in F1. Stop in for an oil change, they cut the filter open, chief mechanic sucks on his teeth looking at it while the other guys are fiddling with the tappet clearances and one guy is industriously filing the breaker points with an Emery nail file "borrowed" from his missus, all before changing the tires and refilling it with fuel for another 27 laps.

Lots of early failures because someone refitted the thermostat with the little hole at the bottom, didn't burp it right and there's HGF coming into the second turn.

I might watch it then

A replacement clutch master cylinder spring for the 1100 arrived in the post today.  No clues on or in the envelope so I don't know who sent it, even the address was printed rather than handwritten and the franking stamp is an illegible blur.  If it was someone from here then thank you!  This should get the little purple monster driveable.

Fil fp has given me a new 100cm by 50cm sheet of 1mm mirror stainless that he saved from going the scrap bin at work

There's a twat driving a black Fabia vrs round the valley, and from about three miles away the dump valve sounds like a crow.

It's Donny council, anything they can do to waste money they will. It's the same place that spent 70million on a new office rather than 500grand to fix the old one. The new one looks a lot shitter too.

US Navy: Penis in sky drawn by jet trail was 'unacceptable'

Due to randomness I can show the plane that drew it but not the trail....

I stopped at laithwaites on the way back from the aborted traction collection earlier. The woman there who thinks I look like sir Kenneth Branagh ( I really don't, but he's a regular too)was there.

She called me over to say that she'd been waiting for me to come in to tell me....sir Kenneth called in last week but she thought he was me and was asking him about the 2cv, and how I ( he) had had a different hair cut. Apparently he was very confused but polite!

I did explain to her that I buy whatever is on offer ( the Basic papavero red n white box today ) and he is probably on chateau lafitte! One day we'll be in the shop together and her world will explode!

Journey to Scotland was clearly small fry for the 406. 550 miles on the trip and (apparently) quarter tank left.

I only saw one other 406 on the way up, winter roads depressingly devoid of anything old.

My best was 49.9mpg in my old 2.1LXDT estate, don't think I ever saw less than 38mpg even on my cross town commute. 700-750 miles on a tank should be easily doable.
