should really be in the grumpy thread but it made me smile.

Old Volvo 850 estate comes in for MOT, the owner says he's been on it most of the day.Cleaning and vacuuming and put some wipers on that didn't need changing.Looking underneath I ask what his spare tyre is like."no good, had a blow-out a couple of days ago" Hmm the offside rear tyre not only has wire showing but it's separating too. So it's more important to have a clean car than a safe one.

The owner is a retired RAC patrolman.

I really hope some poor bastard was delivered that van new in 2011 with that plate on by chance

I had a tantrum with a Honda parts desk because they wanted £337 in advance to order an EGR valve for the Insight and it would take six to ten weeks to arrive and couldn't be returned if there was an issue with it.

(Which sounds like a grump)

So I had words with myself and bought a used Civic EGR valve from eBay for £12.95 intending to try and use parts from it to fix my Insight's valve. It arrived today, looked almost identical, measured electrically identical, fitted in 5 minutes and works perfectly.

So this is a £324 grin!

Sorry I'm confused here, surely £337 is the FITTED price?

Posted

^^^No, that is the part price. The price of a new Civic valve is even more!

Fuck dat shit, I'd expect it delivered, fitted on my drive, the car valeted & filled with fuel for that price. It's EFR ffs, it's not even important!

Offer on our house at asking price. Now we play the completion waiting game!

Next door to us has been sold.  The old lady died and a local developer bought it, and promptly spent over a year doing it up, all the way from the bricks.  Unsurprisingly once he'd done, it sold in no time.  Now we just have to wait and see who we get...

anyone on here ? spotted in rush hour, Edinburgh city centre, this morning - the mad bugger !

Hopefully they are better than the shitehawk who has just moved out from next door to me, 3 years of misery !

Popped over to the lock up today. Spied a plastic drawer/storage type thing. In perfect nick, just a bit dusty. Grabbed for use in the Galaxy to put food, clothes and so on in. Saved the planet and saved myself a few quid in the process. Happy.

What's an egr valve and why's it so expensive?

Posted

Why does anyone need to recirculate the exhaust gas?

I would assume some kind of anti pollution bollocks and that the part is made from the finest fine thing anyone could find.

In the Audi it was made of the cheapest material available, naturally.

Little plastic cogs that turn to open the flap that redirects the gases in the manifold. If there is enough carbon/engine muck to inhibit the movement of the flap the little cogs just chew each other up.

On the plus side it was easy enough for incompetent me to change so only cost the £200odd for a shiny new egr.

ETA: hmm, maybe I'm remembering the cost wrong, but it defo wasn't 12quid. Because Audi, probably.
