What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Ah now... not to be Buzz Killington over here, can we not do the stereotypical sexist jokes for today at least?  Let's just have a day where we're positive about women and how awesome they are.  If it weren't for women, none of us would exist.

I doubt (hope) nobody on here is serious when they make with the bants about women.

Anyhow, this dropping through my door less than 48 hours after being ordered has made my day. Inside of the book personally signed by the lady herself, if anyone wants one check out The Selector on Facebook.

So which one did you buy, then?

I mean, it's not like anyone on here (except 4wheeledstool and a few other notables) actually finishes their projects, is it?

This is just litter in a bin bag in a front garden, just put the fucking thing in the bin where it belongs.

What is wrong with people?

With these mistaken identity stories, here's mine. A mate* of mine and his mate both had Minis (as in BL Minis) and when they saw each other heading towards them would go onto the wrong side of the road until the last second the dart off to the left. one time my mate* did this and at the last second before he vered left realised it wasn't his mate at all! Whoops.

And the rest, she's had to pay her own legal bills as well, people were bandying about figures approaching half a million total cost.

First bit of good news for a long time.

Especially as it was Twitter and not Daily Mail, so therefore no insurance to cover it

As funny as it is, what she said was pretty innocuous and I've seen far worse said on here or any other forum. It's just that the recipient (whose apparently an anti poverty campaigner) is rich enough to be able to take action

Hopkins had the opportunity to apologise when made aware of her error. She refused and doubled down with further comments.

She also has a large following with whom she can affect someone's reputation. A Twitter user with 10 followers and an egg picture would not be treated in the same way.

This is completely wrong, she supposedly sent her offensive comments to the 'wrong person' but then refused to retract them. When you have thousands of twitter followers and write for a national paper you cant just publically chuck any old made-up offensive shite at anyone. She deserves everything she gets the gobshite.

Libel is very much a tool for the rich; if it had been you or I there would have been nothing we could have done about it. I also don't understand how you can ever calculate how much money an insult would be worth. May victims of serious crime never get a penny from the perpetrators but this person gets 24 grand for an inaccurate statement

While we're being pedantic about the Viz book,

Incorrect Driving

The longest journey completed with the handbrake on was one of 504 Km 313 miles from Stranraer to Holyhead by Dr Julie Thorn (GB) at the wheel of a SAAB 900 on the 2nd April 1987. Dr Thorn smelt burning two miles into her journey at Aird but pressed on with smoke billowing from the rear wheels. This journey also holds the records for the longest completed with the choke fully out and the right indicator flashing.

Would an early '87 Saab 900 not still have had the handbrake on the front wheels?

Life isn't fair, but any day that Katie Hopkins get shafted (not in that way, it would be disgusting) is a good day in my book.

She accused a girl of desecrating a war memorial.

The girl received death threats as a direct result of the accusation.

Funny? Innocuous?

Ben

her losing was funny, not the false accusations. Had anyone even heard of this spat before? can't have affected monroe that much, although it's a great bit of PR now. as for death threats, that's long since become the default celebrity quote to garner sympathy.

Seems to me that dislike of the person is blinding people to the wider precedent, and it's resulted in a rich person and a losd of lawyers getting a lot richer

Bollox is on the ball with this here: the tweet was intended for a different recipient, so hence it was defamitory. Even a skint person would have had a positive result with a no-win-no-fee set of lawyers, they'd have smelt profit on this one.

I'd do it.

Has it cost anyone else any money?

Ben

Not sure why that would be relevant. But given the amount of libellous tweets about her on there right now i'd imagine she could make the money back pretty quickly.

Also if anyone wants to falsely accuse me of something, they can do it for £24. In fact even £2.40 would do right about now.

Yesterday I felt well enough (after almost two weeks of shits and very few giggles) to go for a little drive out to Lidl to see if there's was any of those little plastic greenhouses left from their recent gardening promotion left.

In Calais.

I live in Birmingham.

They didn't have any left.
