What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Saw an extremely late plate (04) C15 van while walking hound_Norbert tonight, even had the french-style small side windows and everything. Even bigger grin when I saw it was for sale. .. No room at the inn, but I'll get the phone number for anyone interested.

Our favourite North Eastern car shuffler seems to have a less than subtle sideline selling drugs....

Currently on holiday. Tomorrows mission involves an ex NATO ICBM launcher and a hollowed out glacier. I love Iceland.

I've always wanted to go to Iceland, but not made it, maybe I should make more effort to get there.

Driving through Wroxham today, saw an old dear (must've been 75 if she was a day) piloting an immaculate facelift LWB Rover 75.  Can't remember the last time I saw one of those.

Recently asked someone why their Clio was advertised as spares/repairs:

'Yes still have the car, sometimes when starting up the car it has no power so you have to restart it by opening up the bonnet, but it's easy to do, and the driver side window has a mind of its own and goes down by itself, so pretty faulty electrics'

Fitted a $5 lights-on reminder buzzer to the Pontiac after several flat batteries.   Now I turn the lights on just so I can be reminded to turn them off with my new gadget.   Even my 6 year old was looking at me with pity when I showed him this luxury feature.

Finally tracked down a replacement wing for the daily which I will know in an hour if I have won or not.

Hope I get it! Have made seven attempts to buy a wing in the right colour and I am getting bored of it now

I never saw that listed as an activity in the guidebooks over here but I'll ask for you if you want?

Got a couple of positive responses from one of those 'trusted builder' type sites.

Two chaps popping round this evening.

First chap arrives, looks at me oddly and said....... I know you. I'm thinking how, who, what car did I buy/sell, was it shite?

He then reminds me. He was one of the younger lads that I did karate with about 13 years ago. We had a really good natter. He's struggled but is now doing well for himself :)

He has the job.

Had a couple of days off this week so took the opportunity to go to somewhere that only opens midweek but I've been desperate to get to.

The National Gas Museum in Leicester.

Totally free, just a few rooms rammed with old gas appliances downstairs and then stuff associated with the delivery of gas upstairs. But it's really well written, loads of info on weird and wonderful stuff like gas washing machines, gas dishwashers and even a gas radio. Got a 1920s kitchen set up with the gas powered clothes irons, water heaters and stuff. Spent well over an hour there.

Probably not worth travelling the length of the country for but worthwhile if you're in the area

Yeah, won the bastard. Got shilled up in the last two minutes but a clean straight wing in the right colour for the same price as a new one in primer saves me the cost and bother of getting it sprayed up.

Problem is replacing it involves removing the bumper, headlight, and stupid little window above the wing. In order to get to that I have to remove the A pillar trim using a special tool, etc etc. Basically dismantle shitloads of stuff.

I can feel a call to a friendly body shop coming on......

What the heck's an Electric Brae??

See that Peugeot going downhill?

It's actually travelling uphill.

Allegedly the topology around the Electric Brae fools your mind into thinking you are travelling either up or down the hill when,in fact, you're going the other way.

I've been there umpteen times and never noticed the effect at all.

OK, so maybe not top of the bucket list.

Insurance companies surely pull numbers from the air. Insurance on xantia is 73 quid a month fully comp. Substantial monthly saving of the Volvo which was £196. Also found the owners handbook, service book and I think even the original bill of sale is in there. Tucked away under a cover in the car.
