AA wanted £££ for breakdown. Using quidco managed to get joint cover through RAC with homestart for £85, bargainous.

Now been sent an offer from RAC for £30 amazon voucher due their winter promotion. Excellent!

0-40mph traffic light sprint in the 400 is, I have learned today, hilariously fun.

You have to wonder sometimes...

I live in a 9th floor apartment, in a block of 115 similar apartments. I have no loft (there's 2 floors above me) and one external wall which is all glass.

Some poor sod has been walking the corridors this morning to deliver these:

Vulg I can seriously tell you a r8 214 can take off faster than a bug eye Subaru Impreza turbo that has a chav cannon on the back in the traffic light grand prix, embarrassing the driver infront of his lady passenger that he was trying to impress by racing a crap old car :-) it happened in between 2 sets of traffic lights that were close to each other so he didn't get chance to overtake

It is fun showing people up in it, especially since from behind I must look like the sort of elderly gent that exclaims things like "I'm 92 next year" and "all my friends are dead, you know".

I was following the only R8 214 I've seen up here (very rusty), that thing could shift!

Did this actually happen or am I being thick? 1.4 vs 2.0 turbo?

Yes it did happen, the traffic lights were very close together, the rover accelerated away while the Impreza was in lag and by the time it came on boost it was time to stop because the traffic light was on red. It would have wiped the floor with the rover other wise

Little engine cars are great at traffic light grand prix, not so much at motorway drag strip.

Probably because it now weighs only half as much as it did when it came out the factory...

Sitting in my recliner watching dad's army after a tea of kangaroo steak and chips, whilst the SWBO washes up as I cooked.

Vulg! That house looks lovely. Driveway and a garage. Swine!

They were lovely. Iceland special. You don't get much for your money but good for a treat. Very tender, similar to beef but a bit more subtle flavour.

Ah, this is a special lexus model where to outdo the competition in the 'why did they take something that fundamentally works and make it worse in the name of progress' stakes.

They decided to replace the metal brake disc with friction material in the form of a clutch friction plate, and then make the 'pads' out of metal.

obviously this would have been impossible with drum brakes, but once someone realised that a brake disc and a clutch plate were the same shape, the idea took hold.

It didn't catch on.

Saw a damp and muddy Kevin McCloud and camera crew in a local boozer coming in for lunch. Very humble, let me squeeze by as he was eyeing up the bar, it made me smile that he was just a "bloke".

Something in Modern Classics inspired me to dig out my Ronin DVD. Apart from the fact that every single vehicle (apart from maybe the Pug van) is shite in some way or other, you can also pass the time by playing the "spot the stunt black Twingo" game. I think I got to about 10.

It will look even better with multi coloured princess and a half and maybe an engine or two scattered about as garden ornaments.

Happy not just grin. Summer is showing it's hand, it is now 9.50pm on Thursday, sky is clear with a full moon. There is not a breath of wind and my temp gauge reads 22c inside, max was 24 today. And the forecast is crap and high winds. May it continue getting better.

The dog. And fireworks. Really makes me grin.

She just doesn't give a shit at all. (I suspect because she was rescued from filton, so probably grew up to frequent small arms fire.)

It's been like the battle of the somme round here with non stop fireworks since thursday. Flash, bang, flash bang bang.

She will look up at a huge one, and then carry on. The rest make no impression at all.

That's nice and all but what really makes me grin is the reactions of other people.

"OMG you shouldn't be walking her with all these, she'll be scared" ->  Doesn't look scared to me, having a sniff in the leaves there.

"You cruel man, subjecting that dog to this". Um.....

Thats just walking down the street. Oddly enough didn't get one comment at the organised display, but did get an awful lot of filthy looks.

Can't they believe the evidence of their own eyes?

----

And on a similar note, but a bit out of date - the "don't leave dogs in hot cars" mob.

If it's mega hot, then no, on both those days we'll not take her.

However, if its less than low 20's we will leave her in the car. Normally in the shade. Always with the windows open, never for very long.

Left her like this for about 20 mins this summer. Come out of the shop and there is a concerned* member of the public waiting to berrate me.

"she could die, you're lucky the rspca aren't here yet, they'd break your window to teach you a lesson"

unlikely, all 4 windows are wide open. - they'd have to shut them to break them

"But they dog could die if it gets too hot"

Or she could jump out of the, erm, open windows. Or if she really was in trouble you could open the unlocked door.

All the while the dog is just sat there, visibly very happy.

So vigilante gobshite then goes to shove their hand into the car to demonstrate how unbearably* hot* it is in there. Now that the dog did not like, not one little bit. Made me grin though.

sorry for the late reply but playing catch up with this thread, and the topic of others people misplaced concern made me chuckle.

I will park the F up with the roof down and leave it outside all day. The neighbours cat (called Deifenbaker) has taken to curling up asleep on the nice, warm black leather seats. This doesn't bother me in the slightest, I love cats, and Dief is a proper mans cat, and friendly too.

Anyway, he's such a chilled out animal that if I want to go anywhere, I have to physically chase him out of the car. I mentioned this to the neighbour who said not to worry about it, Deif would just stay asleep in the car regardless of where it was. So I went to Tesco with my neighbours cat asleep on the passenger seat of my convertible, left him there while I went in for a few bits. Wasn't gone long, 10 mins maybe.

So, I get back to the car and there is some wifey waiting for me, to tell me how cruel it is of me and how scared the cat must be (you could almost hear him snoring).

Her parting shot? "It's really cruel of you to treat your cat like that."

My reply "He's not my cat" as I drove off.

I wouldn't mind if he had been going nuts in an enclosed car, but fast asleep in an open convertible?
