Scaryoldcortina=legend. That is all.

Agreed. I feel an Autoshite band coming on... The Austin Rovers perhaps? Or maybe Arthur's Nice Little Midnight Runners? I'll get me bass out...

Quitting a job that isn't fun anymore. GRIN! After three and a half years working on a busy weekly newspaper, I've decided to retire. At 32.

Hoping the freelance world can keep me in ol' shite while my wife and I ponder a much bigger lifestyle change. Bring on The Good Life!

Good luck Dolly!

Brave! Lots of respect featured here.

Actually, pissing around with photos is keeping me amused at the moment amidst the staircase of FAIL crashing around me like a hurtling Citroen GS wedging itself in a tunnel.

The comments are very much appreciated, and mean a lot. :D

Everything's up now, including before and after the LMC.

I quit six weeks ago and whilst it is slightly scary, its the best thing I've ever done. I am loads more relaxed and actually feel loads better. Getting a lot more time to dedicate to our own business and spend time with Lobsta_Jnr.

Shooting Stars is beyond daft. Brilliant.

I've always been a bit relaxed about quitting, but I've been doing this for 3 and a half years - longest time ever (albeit still split over two different companies) and it feels very odd. Still got WEEKS of notice time to work - first time ever I've had more than a week's notice!

Old fashion garages. Got one near me to do the auto electrics on the van. All my mates reckoned the would do a shoddy job and charge the moon. I am quite a trusting person and always believe the best.

Turned up at 7 to collect last night and they had issues stated it. Oh bugger .. so after some fiddling they got it all up and running. Handed me the keys and told me that it was £50 more that I was quoted cause they had to do loads more

I know they had to drop the petrol tank and everything so handed it over without too much grumbling. Get half a mile down the road and it conks out. Had to push the van to a nearby sainsburys but luckily a nice polish chap helped. Getting annoyed now, everyone was right etc etc why should I trust people.

Go back to garage. They hop in car and come with me. Spent 2 hours trying to get it started. Cant do it. Say they will go back the next day.

All the negative thoughts come into my head and I don't really believe them. If they do they will charge me.

Wander over at 10 am today and there they are fixing it. Took them another hour. Hand me the keys and that is it. No a penny more charged

Proper service

:D

Blimey, sorry the van's been ill. It never once conked out on me. Glad she's been sorted though - a working fuel gauge is a bloody good idea!

Posted

Yeah petrol gauge is fairly useful!

It was just they had broken a wire next to the distributor (their own fault) but wasnt that obvious. Getting the sink fixed next week. :D

Good stuff. Have fun in Scotland! Sounds like a good trip. Don't forget to take plenty of pics...

I'm freelance, it's awful, I'd love to travel to and from an office again.

Luckily, I have done it before, and have spent about 80% of my working life in temporary/contract roles. I know I'll miss both my superb commute and the office banter, but on the plus side, I'll get to watch Bargain Hunt again. Result!

Best of luck, dolly! I've done something similar: thrown it all up to chase my dream over here. Been here more than a year now and jobs are even thinner on the ground than in the Ununited Kingdom. Never mind, it's sunny most of the time and I have two old cars to keep me amused, not to mention the diesel Brava truck (I told you not to mention the diesel Brava truck!). One thing I have found over here is a friendly local garage, where the owner knows old Brit cars with BMC A-series and Ford Kent engines, which are coincidentally the two old engines I have, how handy... :D

I tend to spend half the week doing my own thing, and then 16+ hours a day doing my work. Daytime telly is pretty awesome when you're not in work. Professionals/Minder in the morning FTW!!

Seeing my old Citroen Saxo I sold in 2006 pop up on eBay, not a million miles from me.

Went and had a look at it tonight and let's just say it may be coming back home again! I'm chuffed to bits.

Freecycle. :D

I ask for stuff quite often but as is the way it's a bit of a lottery as to whether you get anything.

Yesterday I picked up some metal barrels - wanted one to cut down and use for filling with Deox C for removing rust from bigger car parts. Got there only to find they are alu. beer barrels... :? Errr.

Today got a sack full of pc cables and bits, threw all mine away when I moved in here so have been struggling now I'm working on computer stuff at home.

Then picked up an Ikea tabletop/desk and metal legs, 19" monitor (didn't say what it was so thought maybe a TFT but it's a monster tube one) and an oldish laptop - ok for soak testing stuff without tying up my main pc all from same lady. 8)

Must be my week for the lottery.

After two weeks of public transport back and forth and back and forth to the scrapyard/Halfords, only to find out the part wasn't the faulty part:

I finally get my car on the road:

Although I still have to work out how I'm going make the two odd unions on the middle section stop blowing, and possibly sort out teething problems.

Once this is done, I'm possibly selling all my car related tool shenanigans and never touching another car again.

Nice one Station!

Making me grin tonight was able to get the time off work to attend a great classic car meeting, seeing some great cars (not many pictures as I was too busy talking) but there was a Lada Samara complete with Lada Owners Club stickers there amongst the Jags and MG's. I had a great time. Also the (nearly) midnight dash home along some narrow winding country lanes in the A35 was good fun :D

"Dash" and "A35" are two words that you do not often see in the same sentence.

Making me grin today was seeing a spotless P-reg Galaxy VR6 giving it some beans up the road past the office as I walked into work. It's been a long time since I heard such a wonderfully incongruous noise coming from a vehicle.

Making me grin this morning was the bright yellow Mk1 Fiesta hurtling up the A1M just ahead of me near Peterboghorror. No pics as I was driving, but glad to see it all the same.

I needed to get some more paint mixed up in a spray can for my current attempts at smartening the Minx a little. On Monday I drove down to the localish place that made the last lot a couple of years ago (which frustratingly was not a very good match) but there was a note on the door -they'd just closed the business. :(

So I hunted around for somewhere else withing reach and rang a place in Hanwell, West London - seemed very nice on the phone. Went down there with ickle_Seth on Wed morning. They had some trouble finding the colour etc but ended up doing a small amount in a cup first to see how it compared to the bit of chopped off bodywork I'd taken with - Looked perfect so they mixed up a couple of cans. We'd been waiting there quite a while and they were impressed by Ickle_Seths patience so they went and got a present for her - a small fury Dulux dog! Top notch service from a happy, family type business. :D

I've had a go with the paint this morning and it is absolutely bang on colour. Very happy indeed. Compare the freshly painted front of the wing to the exisiting patches at the back...

Saw a Renault Estafette yesterday for the first time. Was parked up on some land in a private estate what could probably be classed as the middle of nowhere. I didnt actually know it was an Estafette, had a quick look at it i passing and noted the plate to look up later. No pics unfortunately.

It was in a military green, and I was going to suggest it may have turned that colour after being parked near/under a tree for an age, out of action.

However, somebody is still bothered about it:

Ebay messages.

Tonight I got a question asking if I worked in a local village garage and drove an orange Opel back in the '80's.Thinking it might be an old school friend I replied with a yes, that's me.

Turns out to be a fella who did a three week work experience at the garage I worked in.The schoolkids were often refered to as "boy" even though I was probably only a few years older. This fella reminded me of his nickname. How could I forget "bog-buster".There used to be an old wheel rawl bolted to the wall of the washroom where the hosepipe lived.Yep,somehow this skinny little fifteen year old kid managed to rip the wheel off the wall smashing the toilet bowl in the process. So for a few days I was deprived of my 10 O'clock morning dump and due to this every night just before we locked up to go home I would throw his push bike on the roof of the washroom.Must have made a lasting impression as twenty odd years later this "boy" wants to know if I am that chap.

Being reminded of a time when going to work was a laugh made me smile
