What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

I know where it is I used to live up there . If people can't plan their journey then they pay the price.

It is pretty clear in the article that selling petrol to the public isn't really their business, you'd be grateful for it at any price if you were running low and needed a splash and dash

There is nowhere else for a long, long way in either direction on the A90.

There is another one not too far away on the southbound carriageway.

There's a really nice old style garage in Edzell with attended service. The office has a proper garage smell and overlooks the workshop.

They are profiteering cunts (I used to know the owners) who take advantage of a captive market. You can safely bet that the transport companies who use the place as a fuel depot are not paying those prices, but somehow its ok to charge unaware motorists through the arse.

Yes you could go to Edzell or even Forfar or Montrose for fuel, but if you dont know the area you wont be aware of these places and whether they have fuel.

Ref. that petrol station and 'She said the station primarily served haulage firms...' I can only assume that's a Gulf thing. The nearest Gulf to me is also a massive rip off  and also serves loads of HGVs. The bloke who owns the place said that he is the only fuel station for miles that accepts a certain type of fuel card that some HGV companies use.

He also shut his garage a week or two early during the last shortages despite having plenty of fuel. Then, once all the other local garages had shut because they didn't have any, he re-opened and shove the prices right up.

As the article says most people put a fiver in and go to Aberdeen or Dundee to fill up. What would happen if it wasn't there at all ? People would be quick to moan if it shut down like so many independant filling stations have.

Took Volvo for a run for first time since thermostat change & sunroof drains unblock/sealing session.

No more leaks, fast warmup and toasty heater.

Well pleased

I was contacted today by the person who recently asked me about "enabling USB debuggering mode" This time, they wanted my recommendation for an "aerodynamic keyboard"

They'll shut down pretty soon if they keep charging 50% more than the competition. Seems daft to target £5 splash and dash customers instead of £30 regulars.

It's not like they've always charged such a ridiculous mark up.

But given the rancid state of the food next door and the shocking prices they charge, "reasonable pricing policies" is not anywhere in their operations ethos.

If you read the article it's clear they're targeting the several hundred pounds a time fill up, rather than 5 or 30

Doesn't seem to be much "grin" on this page, but I'm happy because my V6 XM passed its test today.

I think it is still allowed to have more than one working at any given time! Hope so!

Motorist isnt unaware Dave , the price is displayed on the sign is it not ?

It isn't displayed on the sign, you can only find out by looking at the pump.

What shut down the small in dependants IMHO was the big guns having a price war. I recall their aim was to be the cheapest within a mile or so, so all they had to do was drop the price right down, throttle the smaller competition then when they closed the big guns just shoved their prices back up.

Whoever thought of that idea is probably still a very rich person.

Here's a proper grin.  I'm watching The Avengers on True Entertainment.  Diana Rigg in B&W, driving her white Lotus Elan.... with steel wheels, chrome hubcaps..... and whitewalls!

When I was in Wrexham over Christmas the local independent that sells everything from parafin to red diesel was advertising unleaded at 2p a litre cheaper that anywhere else. 105.9

Corsa V5 arrived which informs me that in twenty years of existing I'm only the fifth person to own it.  Should have actually checked this when I bought it but at the time I was all 'meh, WCPGW?' which, as it happens, was the best approach to take with this little gem.

Save for the bootlid and x2 front hubs (on ebay), the entirety of the rotten to fuckery mk1 MR2 turbo's component parts have left the building.

I'm currently itro £700 up and still left with the engine, turbo and down pipe - probs will sell these.

That's pretty impressive. Mine is ticking along at about 100 views daily, though I haven't been actually doing much with cars lately, just ranting about things.
