What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Work colleague has been moping around the office because his boiler had failed - last thing I need right after xmas, it always happens this time of year etc etc

Had an engineer out to it last night, turns out he'd somehow managed to turn off the gas isolator valve.  Fortunately he got an honest one who only charged him £25 call out and didn't go ahead fitting a new boiler, radiators, shower etc.  He probably thought it was a trap and expected to Dominic Littlewood to leap out.

I sort of had that above when I used to fix computers.

Guy said it wouldn't turn on. Went to his house pressed the power button, it started. No charge, walked out. No point wasting your own time making up work.

I had that last week, drove down to a customers house to fix a window that wouldn't secure shut. Arrived to find it tied to the banisters with rope. Undid that opened it to look for anything obviously wrong. Couldn't see owt so tried to shut it and couldn't find anything wrong at all. Fixed the garage door in 2 minutes by bending the operating arms back into place then spent an hour cursing at a wobbly front door handle.

The cynic in me wonders if some kind soul had turned the gas off outside in the box as they were walking past...

It is a cold and drizzly sort of day down here in 'sunny' Devon so I was quite surprised to see a nearly brand new Lexmoto version of an old Lambretta/Vespa thing parked outside the Co-op. It looked pretty damn good to be honest and though I have never been a great fan of scooters, I could really see the appeal. Anyway, I met the lass who owns it (Pretty, young, mad!) and she was waxing lyrical about it, rides it everywhere in any weather and uses it for carrying her guiter (front rack) and amp (rear rack) for when she's  perfoming (street performer).

I was most impressed and the way she shot off up the road (to get away from me possibly :)  ) showed a decent turn of speed.

Just been watching some Jay Leno videos (he is a cool guy - the bastard!) and he was testing a Honda S600. I nearly didn't watch it 'cos the car looked beaten to hell. But, my third ever car was a Honda S800 (NAF 5F) and so...

Brilliant!

The car is a beater, bodywise but it has a CBR1000RR motor and all sorts of trick bits scrounged from other bikes and scrapyards.  Worth a watch....

Today I thought I'd have a look at why the heater motor had failed on my mk1 sierra, took the motor from the casing and saw that the tension spring on one of the brushes had corroded away meaning that the brush wasn't in contact, a pen spring later and it was working as it should

Opening up the Club XM forum on Tapatalk, and mistaking it for the beige...

How?

Someone started a new thread entitled 'New Ford Ad' and then proceeded to rip into it. This was quickly followed by some more derogatory remarks about small SUV ads from all the major manufacturers and seems to have concluded with much shaking of heads and mutterings of 'fings ain't wot they used to be'.

See what I mean?

Having seen your history on here, when's your first date with her? :D

Driving my Duster around Kensington/Belgravia today amongst the Range Rovers, Bentleys and £10m houses :D

I once pulled up outside The Ivy in a beat up 306 that stunk the street out with cooking oil fumes. Unimpressed looking bouncers on the door that day

Good day for seeing old things in use today. Caught sight of an Astra Mk1 (possibly the green one that's been at FOTU), orange Maxi in Melton Mowbray, SAAB Sonnett and Capri Mk3 with pleasant-sounding V6.

£120 a ton on the bridge for steel, first time ever that me weighing some in hasn't been preceded by prices plumetting lemming like to record lows.

No idea what the spec of that is but the local bulk oil suppliers up North beat every price I've found on their own branded stuff, which to be honest seems good and stays feeling oily till changing time.

Unfortunately they don't see a need to do an equivalent to valvoline race oil :(

Sounds familiar - I swear the price of scrap has been at an all time low since forever :D

Assuming £4 of the £9 was delivery of a 5kg parcel, thats £1.11 a litre for the contents. Water can cost more than that.

You should have been in my Rover, they would have assumed you were Old Money!

It'll probably go to £200 a ton tomorrow.

As I currently look like I have leprosy, I thought it better to not push my luck... the simple fact she was prepared to pass the time of day with someone who's face is covered in scabs and scrapes I thought marked her out as a 'nice person' so let her off!  :)

Face covered in scabs etc as I have discovered a new hobby: falling over frequently. On one memorable occassion, interfacing face with concrete lamp post hence many abrasions on left of face/nose. I look a 'proper' sight! :(
