What makes you grin? Antidote to grumpy thread

Bit sad I suppose, but always fancied getting the train to work as the changeover location is a smallish town, and the next line is a proper old style hardly used job.

5.38 out of Chester duly caught, changed at Helsby then look at the carriage I got in next!

I just started my first ever engine using a cranking handle. And it was a 7 litre V8. And both my arms are still attached to my torso.

Now with pictures! But not of Gavin.

Ah, no that was not me...that Panda does indeed belong to Gavin...although the two vehicles have met before...Autoitalia 2011...

One of the rear speakers on the X Type had started grumbling, and when I took it out, the magnet was hanging off. Weird. Anyway, I went to my tame, old-school breaker, having been told that Focus mark 2 front speakers are the same as X Type rear ones. I pulled the door panel off a mark 2.5 that had been shiny side down, and the speaker itself is indeed the same, but the frame is waaaayyyy too big. Feeling a bit deflated, I sparked up a smoke and had a look round to see if there was any other Ford stuff about. "Ah, there's a Mondeo. I wonder....". Walked over towards it, and spotted a mangled X Type behind a pile of Skoda Octavia doors. Only one unmolested door, and it was the one I needed a speaker from. RRRRRESULT! Even better, it was £0.00.

If that's not in the cars and girls thread by now, I'll be disappointed, I'm going to go check now, and amend this situation if it needs amended.

Just nipped out in the Sunny to meet a fellow AS/Flickr member on his way back from a collection mission. He seems to have got himself quite a good buy.

Back from my first trek out in the Rover post cambelt change and I'm really pleased with it.  I enjoyed driving the car before doing this job and now it's just so smooth and effortless it's even better.  I can't believe that this was going to be a disposable tide-me-over car, it's really thoroughly impressed me.

Non car related BUT the Grin news is they are shutting my office at 3pm today and not re-opening until 11am tomorrow. The GRUMP news is that it's due to a hurricane that's due to hit later this evening. My next post may be from underwater  :common070:

Yes, nice to see you Nigel! And good to see and try out the Sunny, even if it was brief.

I'll put my collection in my ZX thread.

I brought a cheap electric chainsaw with the intention of trimming the rotting bows of my apple tree when its finished bearing fruit. So today i cut down two conifers, one unknown bush, found a new way of trimming back the overgrown flowerbeds and hacked the brambles back in the entry so I can turn my car into its parking space easier. Not sure if a pair of kevlar reinforced motorbike trousers and a welding mask and gauntlets was the proper attire but still have all limbs attached!

Might be one for stupid thread, but why would changing the belt make it smoother?

My Escort TD went much better after a belt change, it wasn't in my head because it used much less fuel too. I think the garage that fitted the old belt 16000 miles previously made an arse of it- as they did with every single other thing there was a receipt for.

Plus new tensioners and waterpump may have reduced some drag too. Amy said the Meriva felt faster after I did the belt, pulleys and pump, but I couldn't feel any difference so YMMV

Looking at cars on eBay (as we do), advert said: that's not damage to the paint on the bonnet. That's just clouds in the sky.

I'm sitting here giggling to myself.

After a brief run in my truck at the weekend I've been thinking about running it further. I want to but been a bit scared. Don't know why because if it breaks I'll just need to fix it. So far all I've done with the engine box and axle is change oils.

So last night I decided to celebrate Friday by driving it to work.........which is only about 18 miles but it's longest trip for some time.

It made it! Dripping a bit of oil but nothing serious. And it does 50 pretty well. I didn't hold it for long as I want to run it about and change the oils again but 50 was what I was hoping for.

Chuffed to fuck.

Don't want to worry you, but your classy motor has been photobombed by an old pick-up truck.

How did this come about?

I pulled up to the bar in the village to be greeted by a mechanic trying to crank this Zil into life.

I asked him for a go and he let me. I got a bit of a sweat on but got it started. I feel like a real man now.

The ones that make me laugh are customers that say how much better their car is running after a service when its been a minor ( oil and filter change) one .

I always maintain my cars feel faster after a good detail. Maybe that's why the zx felt so slow at the end, I hadn't washed it in over a year...
