Jesus christ. Just had someone contact me looking for 600 quid part ex for a 2001 Corsa with 140k miles, Cat C,not repaired

I remember the joy of getting the wheels off a mates 10 plate 40k octavia when we changed the original discs and pads, ended up laying under the car and giving them both boots with both eyes firmly on the axle stands...

That made me grimace! A friend suggested jacking up the offending side, then using a jack and a plank of wood between the two rear wheels to apply pressure. I might just leave it to my local garage to worry about when they fit the new tyres.

I have slavered copper grease all over the back of the wheel I did get off.

It was a last resort, after hammers failed. I made sure both axle stands, my jack and the cars jack were in place. The tyres had been changed a few months prior too, the nuts were bastard tight...

Did a bit of prep for the impending alfa 155 MOT including removing a clumsily installed aftermarket high level brake light that doesn't work. As I was finishing I slammed the boot shut, and reallised the only key set I have were in the boot. The boot release button in the glove box has never worked, and the ski hatch wouldn't open as its locked by the same key and couldn't be opened anyway as it opens into the boot which was completely full. The rear seats are fixed and dont fold. I ended up dismantling the rear seat and was relieved to find no bulkhead behind the seats so I unpacked the boot through the interior and eventually got to the keys.

Has anybody been following that Purdy the Transit post on the Facebook page?. I don't really understand it all to be honest, something about Hastings council wanting the van off the road because it's scruffy even though it's moted and taxed so a load of people on the Autoshite FB page are having a whip around to raise £1000 to get it fixed for the owner.

Seems they even managed to get Autoshite into the press...

Nothing much going on, though on my arrival in Shetland on monday morning, I was greeted with a brown Ford Cortina. There's a remarkable amount of chod on offer, though I'm confused as to why it hasn't all returned to nature.

What a day yesterday was

Picked up and dropped off car in some proper northern backwood. Really nice area but one of those in the middle of nowhere, near a place called Hope Valley. Couldn't be arsed to pay £4.30 for a bus ticket into town. So walked 45 minutes to the nearest station, Chin Valley or something only to find the next train wasn't due for an hour and a half. At the station I found a phone on the floor. It was still working so after a bit of detective work I found the owner. He popped to the station and thanked me for finding his phone, it probably dropped out of his pocket.

Eventually I got to my next pick up. A massive Fiat camper van with 0 miles on clock, unregistered thing. Took me nearly 5 hours to get it from Mexborough to Birkenhead via Huddersfield as a mate and fellow driver had missed his connecting train to his next job.

Got to Birkenhead drop off at 8pm which then I had to travel by bus to Widnes where my hotel was. Didn't step into hotel until gone 10pm. Much better today though. A couple of Mercs and free accommodation chez_Ma.

Hope Valley, middle of the Peak District. Some great roads around there.

It was great, sone amazing views around there, had to stop and take pictures. It reminded me that whilst it can sometimes shitty driving or travelling between jobs, some of the views I get to see and the places I get to go through are amazing.

don't got one of those either  :-P

airbag light went on within ten miles of mot - i had thought it was because of moving the seat to big fat bastard setting lol

did i mention i am lazy Angyl

aaah - super advice i have a BFO screwdriver :-D

don't think so - rear windows may have been cracked halfway down the rubber seal and the rear lights have been inexpertly silicone-ed  previously. i will see how random investigation/screwdrivering goes!

another good list but a worrying nonfixment of your leak

thanks for the advice guys  ;-)

ps did i mention it was £60  :P

Ha ha, yes i still need the fix the hinge leak trying to work out a tidy way to do it. Bargain for the money, i paid more than that for a few trim clips off one so you can't lose.

no point in a collection thread for this, as it was delivered from the bodyshop's yard of tat next door to my place of work.

bought by myself sight unseen for use as a field banger - but saved for now :)

1.8 rover 75 club se

plus points:

1 months mot as bought

13 months mot with no advisories after i sent it for a speculative test!

quite tidy all round

3 months as a demo car and then 1 private owner 'till it hit the trade.

fsh from local rover/mg garage

negative points:

beige interior - i am a fabricator so end up filthy nearly all the time :?

full (1-1/2" deep) of water in boot and all footwells

smells a bit mouldy

low rev misfire/hesitation

abs playing up at first then abs and airbag/srs lights on all the time (within 10 miles of the mot lol)

super fresh clean oil and a rad full of kseal indicates a potential reason for the tradein

attachicon.gifIMG_20160521_161705.jpg

attachicon.gifIMG_20160521_161651.jpg

only pics i have for now - water level was so high the only simple solution was to drill holes in all the low points to let it out - took 20 minutes for the flow to stop!

now driving around with heater on full blast to help dry out the carpets

seat covers bought to protect the interior

missfire fixed with £30! of platinum plugs

updates as and when (it assplodes :-P )

did you check the scuttle panel for blockages/water?

when the drain holes get blocked, the water level rises and water pours in to the footwell through the pollen filter.

although if water is in the boot, its unlikely to be this causing it,

Worth checking as in really bad cases the ECU gets fried (as putting it in a drainage channel wasa gr8 idea)

Nothing happening at work so taken a day out to fight with my yard full of slightly broken, not-yet-retro-but-not-new & bored-with-it-Jap tat.

Priority 1  -   polish headlights.post-17481-0-81836500-1464254729_thumb.jpg

Priority 2  -  charge batteries.

Must be some sort of anthropomorphic thing going on; they seem hopeful now, with bright eyes shiny headlights and fresh volts.

Used to be a regular haunt of mine on the bike, until I moved a bit further north.

Welcome to God's country - Widnes.

The only place on earth where you close your windows to stop the smell getting in.

An old joke and not relevant any more 'cos all the factories have gone.

Where did you stay?

Wuss. I'm taking the Gooner for a 400 odd mile trip to Gatwick for our honeymoon

I hear Crawley is delightful at this time of year.

The Kinbuck is being an ungrateful pup, after doing all that work on it the headgasket is now leaking oil.

Bastard.

I have done 'major' work on the Bentley today.... fitted a new radiator cap. Well, it's actually an expansion tank cap so far more technical and difficult - 4 spanners in the HBOL!

Also, waxed the sides of the thing with Autoglyms finest. It is a bloody big car! Still got to do the bonnet, boot and (my personal favourite - not) the roof. Hopefully that should stop Chester slobber from eating the paint away.

Been ringing round for a policy on the ex bollox/HillmanImp Rover R8, seems no chance of a classic policy, Footman James take the prize for worst response " It's just an old car to us", they got a dramatic HOW DARE YOU :-D  !

Any previous owners had success with a classic policy ?

Peter James. As long as it's 20, they're usually fine. I've got the RAV on a classic policy with them.

I live not far from Crawley and I wouldn't describe it as delightful at any time of year.

I think it was scarcasm ;)

I'm driving to Gatwick, not for a delightful holiday in Gatwick, but more to use the flight services that are nearby for a more exciting destination.

Oh the embarrassment, I ran out of petrol today. In my world it's known as doing a Rachel, a friend who frequently loses at fuel light roulette. Most embarrassing was that it was the Bentley not the Land Rover. I now know that the gauge tells very optimistic lies, so at the very least I will now carry a can with me (although a gallon can will only get me about ten miles). I was fortunate that it happened where I was able to run it up into the hedge to get it mostly off the road and while I was thinking who to call to rescue me a very kind chap stopped to help. He loaned me his warning triangle and his fuel can and ran me to and from the petrol station. I put the fuel in and waited for the pump to draw it through, but the pump didn't slow down because a float had stuck in the rear carb so it was chucking petrol out. A clonk to the bowl sorted that and it has run fine since, I did go and stick another £20 in so I could get home.

Other than that it has been an interesting day, I called into my former workplace to pre-order my lunch for tomorrow (someone's birthday) but ended up sitting in on a meeting as a favour to my former assistant (so that's tomorrow's lunch paid for by her). It was rather strange as officially I wasn't there, which did slightly confuse the minute taker who had to record any of the points made by me as being made by my colleague. It has gone downhill there since I left as not only was there no proper coffee, there were no biscuits and I ended up having to have my Earl Grey with milk, not lemon. I knew it was only me who upheld standards there.

I look at that van and think it belongs in a scrapyard (and did about three years ago)! The owner could have spent a few bob when parts were cheap getting some doors and tarting it up themselves!

Good old VW quality had a Golf in for mot yesterday and it decided to shit itself on the emmisions test. When they revved it up the flywheel decided to make a break for freedom.

Dropped the undertray to find it probably wasn't the first time it had tried to self destruct.

There is a big spring inside the flywheel which found it's way out of the casing.

The gearbox got a bit chewed but it hasn't worn that badly so good to go again.

Nope. That had already happened in its past I suspect. Was on that plate when I owned it. The interior was a bit tired, but pretty tidy. Looks f*cked now! Not quite as much as the inner front wings though. Terrifying. I shouldn't have sold it really, but I didn't think it really fitted in with the hippy lifestyle we were trying to have in Wales, so sold it before we moved. Then bought a V8 Land Rover. Idiot.
