Agreed; there's some elan in that styling that just catches the eye. Maybe 'cos it follows the rule of looking like it's doing 100mph standing still.

Also, that's probly a hell of a lot of bushes in the back end alone!

Volvo passed it's MOT after £175's worth of work..... front brake pads, no reserve handbrake travel, front wheel bearing needed adjusting and a small bit of welding. None of these I knew about. Balls! Still, it's done now and it now sports 13 months MOT. Yay!

Simultaneously I collected the bosses old Saab 9-5 from his posh house. It's bloody lovely! Heater motor doesn't work but can be changed under the bonnet rather than removing the dash. Other than that and a few minor odds and ends it's in very good nick indeed. The interior is a great place to be and it wafts along very nicely. I was told it was a 2.0 auto but it's actually a 2.3 manual. Did I mention it's lovely?

I was expecting to sell the Volvo this weekend, but the buyer hasn't been in touch despite emails. I'm not confident about it selling now.

Just posted TV2's ABS module to the fixers, so hopefully by this time next week it will be back on the car and in full working order.

Still waiting for the replacement indicator/running light for The Volvo to arrive; I was hoping that it would be here by now :x

I've had an old Alpineâ„¢ sub and a decent amp that were in my Rangie Turbo knocking around the garage for a few years now, so today I decided "bugger it, I've got 'em so I'll fit 'em".

I know they're quite probably very frowned on in the Shiter community, thought of in a similar way to Corsas with bodykits I imagine, but by 'eck it makes enough of a difference even at low levels. I can hear all my favourite funky basslines again. Drove home listening to

and grinning.

I've just agreed a deal for this, hope to pick it up in a few weeks. I am VERY excited!

Hillman Hunter?, Excellent!.

Today i got my Accuspark ignition fitted on my Cortina, The job seemed to go quite well and the car seems to be certainly running nicer now, The timing was out at 30º so it's been readjusted back to to 8º, The only problem now is that the vacuum advance unit on the dizzy is knackered which is causing the car to splutter when pulling away, I need a replacement but I'm struggling to find one for a 2.0 Pinto with a Motorcraft dizzy without paying for a whole new dizzy unit. Arse.

That's probably because the 2.0 should have a bosch distributor - the motorcraft one is for the 1.6. As it happens, I have a brand new Bosch distributor "just sitting here" ;)

Ah, Now that Interesting, I thought mine was original though?, You partner in crime, A5, has offered me his old one of his crashed Mk5 too, Can you just swap the Bosch and Motorcraft dizzys over with any problems?.

The annoying thing is that I've just spent £32 on a Motorcraft Accuspark ignition kit that I've fitted today so i don't really want to change it all again as it will mean the kit will be wasted and I'll have to pay another £32 for a another Bosch Accuspark kit.

Not sure if this is the right place, but I've seen this Alfa at work a few times, but managed to get parked up next to it today

Trig - The whole distributor swaps straight over. Sierra (carb) electronic dis fits too. Easiest fix for you (given the accuspark - I assumed you meant the external box thing that works with any points dis rather than a replacement for the points set) would be one of the many motorcraft dizzy bodies that A5 and I have lying around.

Hmmmm.... have just agreed to buy my first car!

I'm shaking a little with excitement, worried that I've made a BIG mistake and I feel a bit sick. Is that what it's like every time you buy an old motor?

I'm not gonna jinx it by saying what it is yet, but rest assured it's very, very 'me' :D

Nice one!

I wouldn't worry too much about making a mistake because 1) we've all done it 2) it's an experience 3) you'll learn from any mistakes but most importantly... 4) if you like it then why the hell not?

Now trying to think of something very, very 'you' and could only guess at some 1970's obscurity, hopefully in a MEGA loud colour. 1974 Marina estate in Black Tulip?

It's an incredibly shonky old plastic car, naturally!

Little Tykes Cozy Coupe?

Renault Clio?

Citroen BX?

Some sort of Reliant?

Posted

I'll start guessing at a Bond Bug going via a Renault Espace to a Lotus of some sort, perhaps an Esprit. :)

Fitted new ARB drop links to the Volvo, curing the rattling from the suspension ... which is nice.

Filled the Volvo with diesel (yes, again) 48mpg for the last tank, which isn't bad.

Please let it be a Bond Equipe.

*cough* ahem.... No comment m'lud

Details are being finalised, I can't even send any money 'til Monday so it's not actually 'mine' at present, need to arrange some transport to drag it back here (the late Pog is actually sorting that out for me, top bloke that he is) but yeah, it might be...

I think it's this:

Now, have you got that application in to Kelsey as the staff writer yet? It's about time your knowledge about obscure plastic motors helped educate the rest of the classic motoring public... :D

I managed to acquire some more tax exempt chod earlier this week. This, to be exact:

DSCF8616.jpg

DSCF8617.jpg

It's an early Series 2 2000 SC manual, so it's not the quickest thing on the road but trundles along OK. It's very solid for a P6, having been restored a few years ago, although it isn't perfect. It drives well, although the brakes need a hell of a shove at the moment as the servo's been bypassed, and everything seems to work, even the HRW - a first for me on a P6.

Before anyone says anything, I didn't actually buy it - I got it as a swap for the Jeep (which needed more work than I'd anticipated), the Metrocab and one of the Spacys. I don't know how long I'll be keeping it though - I do quite like the old crate, but I could do with the moneyz as well.

In other news, I think (touch wood) I've found the cause of the other Rover's recent lack of doom, in the form of a very shonky-looking rubber pipe from the turbo to the wastegate actuator, with a T-piece halfway up for the boost gauge pipe. I've managed to lever it off (turbo is right down the back of the engine so access is GR3) and I'll be nipping to the motor factor's tomorrow to get a replacement pipe - might just junk the boost gauge altogether and have a one-piece pipe, one less thing to go wrong. Assuming that fixes the problem I can then concentrate on the spluttering...

I also got No. 1 Spacy running sort of properly today, after managing to get one of my stock of fuel taps working. I had to give it a squirt of Easystart to get it going, but then it sat there spluttering away happily enough, and making some interesting smells as parts started to get hot which hadn't been hot in eight years. It's not running quite right - to start with it wouldn't rev at all and just died if I opened the throttle, it gradually got better as it warmed up but still isn't quite there. I'll have to reconnect the autochoke and see if that helps any. I did sort of manage to ride it round the garden (sitting on the fuel tank as the Diversion battery doesn't fit in the tray so I couldn't put the seat back on) but it wasn't pulling well enough to ride on the road. I've ordered a new battery for it off eBay so once that arrives I'll have a proper play with it and see if I can get it running well enough to take to work.

That P6 looks fantastic, I'd bloody love that.

In Simca-news, all of the lights apart from the headlights (so sidelights, rear lights, number plate light and dash light) have stopped working.

Switch/fuse/something else?

Posted

Could be switch - it sounds like all the lights that come on at the sidelight position aren't coming on. Try a hotwire...

Got a set of O/S doors, a bootlid AND a rear axle for the Austin 1100 today. It actually looks like a car now!

Took the Micra for its MOT today. Apart from the nearside rear wheel bearing and a couple of sidelight bulbs, it passed with flying colours. At the same time it was given a service which it hadnt had for a couple of years. Whilst waiting around I took a stroll to a nearby scrappy where I managed to pick up (yet another) parcel with OEM speakers, though the shelf has seen better days the speakers work fine. I also picked up some A-pillar trims with little grilles in them for the tweeters which aret installed in my car.

In a true autoshite fashion, after removing the A-pillar trims for the first time I discovered a tweeter connection on the passenger side, but not one on the drivers side:

Looks like I'll have to just wang on a tweeter on the passenger side until I can be arsed to find/fix up another connection for the drivers side.

I've got some tweeters somewhere but I cant be arsed to look for them so I'll grab some from the scrapped Micra I robbed some parts off today.

A-piller trim:

Nothing behind the little grilles yet so I'm kind of cheating but at least it looks like I've taken advantage of the 'accessories' option :|

Apart from the starting problem the Rover developed, it has also decided to add a blowing exhaust to the list of things that constantly need doing. Its booked in for an MOT/service/change of starter motor and sort the exhaust out so at least it wont sound like an old car.

I can feel my bank card taking a right drubbing.

Ahhhhh. I've been looking for some factory tweeters that fit there for the Impreza. Micras, eh? Top tip :)
