Use j and r driveshafts . Very cheap and good quality

I have mad(ish) ideas about sticking a Zetec in my Minor, and have been looking for a suitable donor. Ratdat very kindly offered his Dads old X reg 2.0 auto but now I have it at home it looks lovely. 91k, looks pretty smart apart from a gaffered front bumper and a rust hole in one sill. It drives great too. Should I kill it or get it roadworthy??

One of the yougens i work with(19) around 6 weeks ago,drove out of a parking bay in the works car park into a passing Leaf.His insurance covered the Leaf but not his Corsa (56) plate.So a £600 bill to repair the Corsa.

 

On Saturday gone he was driving past our local supermarket when his engine went bang.Talking to him yesterday,I asked what happened?It just blew,any oil in?don't know.Any water in? don't know just went bang.

It is if you've paid your bills. I sold a 6 month old Focus ST to a 18 year old at £500 a month. He was accepted instantly the moment I uploaded his details meaning a computer had made the decision rather than a human at the other end. I sat him down and explained to that he really needs consider the impact of such a commitment - the monthly payment, fuel consumption and insurance - but he was adamant he had done his sums, was earning a bundle and had no problem affording it. 3 months later his Grandad bailed him out because he was skint.

Probably the amount of wiring/ECUness involved in dropping one in. Which is daft, because you just transplant the lot, and the MX5 comes complete with a lovely gearbox instead of trying to hunt around for r@re $carce Toyota ones.

Nope, the type 9 box is the expensive part, then you need a water rail for the back of the engine block, but it's all very reasonable. I hope to run the original injection system on a cut down loom, the world of banger racing holds all the secrets for doing this stuff cheaply.

"-When was the auxiliary belt last done darling?

- It has a cam chain

- Yes but it still has an auxiliary belt, has that ever been done?

- Do they do it with the oil?

- No, not unless you ask

- Never then"

"That noise coming from the engine; the aux pulley is falling off, do you want us to change it now or next month?"

As it is a glorious day (really) and I woke up feeling relatively healthy, I played with green dollop. First I got underneath it and waxoyled the shit out of it everywhere I could reach - discovered the big bang I heard/felt the other week was the boot floor/spare wheel bulge hitting the road rather hard! -  so waxed that after blobbing some paint on it, and then touched up all the little marks on the bodywork with my new correct colour touch up. Also went over it with a microfibre cloth and cleaned it up a treat. Also checked all the fluid levels and they are all as they were, so it seems third rack is a good ;un!

 

Took the dogs up Daddyhole and just sat in the sunshine for an hour or so, It was soooooo pleasant to not be cold and just have a jumper on, no coat, hat or gloves. Lovely.

 

Got back to the car and a nice lady parked next to it opened her door and told me she had been admiring the dollop. We had a lovely chat about it and I told her it was glorious but 'bloody unreliable'. Guess what, when I went to leave, it wouldn't start!

 

She did smile.....

cant decide whether to put a new engine in or break it..... breaking is winning out at the mo as engine replacement is such a faf and it has everything I need for the mot on it....

9 months mot left though.....
