Took the Sterling out and about today, seemed quite well and as today was very mild and even slightly warm, I took it to the yard for a wash as where I park is by some trees so gets splattered in bird shit often. Whilst washing my own car I also washed another yard users car as it was filthy, got a cuppa for my efforts 8D

Then upon parking my car, I also saw my neighbours neglected Focus. I also sprang up trying to clean it up a bit too. He left the Focus in the cul-de-sac where I park my car and it has collected many months worth of mould/leaves/twigs and spattered up road dirt on the wheels. I hate seeing it in such a neglected state so I started cleaning as much as I could and chucked a bucket of warm water over it (water had to be transported from local yard) I cleaned off the spattered road dirt from the wheels and now it looks a bit less neglected though still very splattered in bird shit and still some mould persists as I didn't have enough water. Oh yeah, and he doesn't know I've done it!

Whilst at the yard, I checked on my Mk1 Sterling, mould is starting to grow inside it again so another session with brushes, warm water, rags etc... will have to be done, I think I'll need to remove the soundproofing that got wet as this is what is causing all the problems. Such a shame, it makes me sad as it was once a really nice old but very solid and stupidly clean car, I really need to pull my resources together and get this sorted once and for all. KV6 is going away soon so I really want a nice 800 standing by for me to use as an autoshite/old 'meet' car.

Hey! Remember that Panhard that was in a field with a certain Renault 6 and Granada?

Well, it's f*cked. This is it during a period of part yielding. Absolutely thrilled that it gave up valuable bits before going for scrap though. Turns out that a chap who had owned it at four years old tracked it down via my blog and managed to get the front number plate. How heart-warming. Apparently, he drove it into a truck in 1967, and then repaired the bonnet itself. That might explain the patina...

So, posting rubbish about old cars it turns out IS useful!

Is Xtriple's surname Roper?  If so, we could be related.

Well he's unwell . ..  so you might inherit  a couple of dogs and a large green car , if you are !!

No,my name is DavidTowers. So definitely not me - I was never brave enough to lean a Kwak triple that far over, the bastards loved to chuck you off even when totally upright!

A cover has fallen off/been pinched off the front bumper of my car. I am sad.... But, I 'think' I can get chrome replacements...

Because of the uniquely stupid way in which my brain functions, the only car capable of performing people carrying duties this evening was the Nippa. Even three up, the poor thing seriously struggles to climb hills! Prelude is no good because the rear seats are only there for comedic reasons. XM is broken and the Dyane isn't quite back in one piece. Not sure I would have wanted to be in it either, as the drive into town was a mixture of gales and the sort of rain that looks like film special effects. It was ludicrous and with heater, wipers, headlamps and HRW going, the poor engine had even more of a struggle.

I think I need to sort my fleet out. It doesn't feel right at the moment.

Next challenge is going into Birmingham on Friday. That'll be fun :|

Well believe it or not, it actually made it there and back without much drama. Though in the mosque carpark all the water in the radiator basically just gushed out of the bottom. Refilled expansion tank and all was well in a sense but water was still dripping out of the bottom.

It still made to Ma's and then back here. There seems to be a slight wheel bearing noise coming from the nsf and the brakes sound like metal on metal but don't feel like that. Bloody thing has got under my skin, which I didn't want it to do. Its done me proud and kept on going when much tidier examples binned thier own engines (of which I have one)

Fucking cars :|

New/repaired/second hand rad, more grease in the wheel bearings and some new pads then.  That's not too bad really.

What does right feel like though ?

I took the punctured Rover 75 wheel and tyre to the tyre place to be fixed. Popped in the boot of the Reliant. Felt very British.

Good question! Quite liked it when it was just the 2CV and XM. I've ended up with too many cars again.

Had a hernia repair yesterday ( open surgery, etc) at 1pm. Woke up at 2.30, lots of morphine and back to the day surgery unit where I had coffee and a sandwich. Perfectly fine with no pain, parents collected me and was home at 5.30 ( went in at 6.30 am mind). Then the drugs wore off! Codeine made me feel sick. And paracetamol not touching much. Currently in bed still and no pain when here, but getting up is painful and lying down again excruciating. At the moment I don't think I want to drive again ever!

I was going back to work on Monday, but may be delayed a day now - not supposed to drive next week anyway, no lifting for a fortnight and then fine to get back to normal- swimming, cycling all ok apparently. The thought of lifting my leg over the saddle st the moment makes me feel ill though!

Only other motoring news is the cover off the 2cv has made a bid for freedom in the 50mph wind.

I've had two hernia repairs done, I would advise you to take things very easy - unless you desperately need to get back to work, take your time to recover. I was off for four weeks each time (my job involves running around like a blue arsed fly ten hours a day) and eased myself gently back into it when I did go back.

I was advised not to drive for a fortnight but had to ignore that advise as how else was I supposed to go to the docs for a checkup ? It would take me over an hour to shuffle there on foot and the bus doesn't go there :( getting in and out of the mazda was a bit of a challenge, I bought myself a crv to keep me mobile :)

Ordered an obscure bit for the dollop yesterday afternoon from an unknown breaker miles away.... arrived this morning! 15 hour service is impressive! It even looks a similar colour but there is no way I am going out again to check as it is blowing a gale and the rain is coming down sideways!

Stupid question but will a rad from 1 of your 4 cylinder cars fit? Even if some hose swappage/badging is needed?

Happily, I'm mostly sitting at work- desk or weighing benches ( micrograms so not heavy). Also, there's only two of us running the company so I can't totally give up. If I can get up and sit at home I can do so at work. Although I've told my colleague if he wants me in, he'll have to drive me. Although the Mercedes seems designed for the elderly and infirm! And I'm not in to speak to customers, receive packages from couriers etc. Just sit and type and moan occasionally.

According to all, the hernia was pretty large by most standards - about fist sized. So a decent hole in the wall to fix!

Can't fault the staff at frimley park though. Just wish I had some morphine at home ! Coming up for 24 hours since the general anaesthetic now. Also belly button to knees is bright pink from the bacterial swabs and bald in places I didn't used to be!

When I came round after my first hernia op, the nurses insisted (although I told them I didn't feel up to it) on giving me a tuna sandwich and cup of orange juice - they later regretted this when I projectile vomited it off the end of the bed !

Have a speedy recovery :)

As far as I know the rad in the KV6 different from the 4-cylinder cars. I've only got 1 4-cylinder car and won't use the rad from that! I'm unsure if my other V6 Rover rads might fit, but again, they may be as crumbly and I'd rather they stay in the cars to keep them mobile if needs be.

The KV6 is coming off the road tomorrow anyway in favour of the E46 I'm picking up.

I had tuna and a coffee back on th ward. Felt perfectly fine then, and only felt sick when the drugs wore off at about 7pm. Most problems today seem to be wind related. This too shall pass!

23k non turbo diesel, some assembly required.

So I'm now on the hunt for some parts for this, I'm looking for a BOSCH pump & mounting bracket to start with oh and a green windscreen! PM me please folks if you can help.

It'll probably want new tyres come the time too, but that's some way off yet.

I have just got home and found an email to say I had won an MG ZR with 11 months MOT but dented this afternoon for £196, I was looking forward to collecting it and the next email said the seller had cancelled the order. There was no discussion so I can only think the seller thought it was too cheap and would not part with it.

I was getting fed up clambering through from the back seat to unlock the rear door of the disco.

New door latch

image.jpg2_zpsy7j00bd9.jpg

Pop off the door trim and unplug the multi pin plug.

image.jpg1_zpshj6cauln.jpg

Those red panel clips are a pain but I managed to reuse them.

The door lever and lock button are connected to the mechanism via two push fit rods.

The internal door lever connects via a cable which can be disconnected after the lock is wriggled free of the door.

image.jpg4_zpsgzqupxq2.jpg

It's a bit of a faff getting it back in position.

All back together. No more climbing through from the back seat.
