I have too many cars, am not particularly flush with money at present, so of course I have just agreed to buy another car ... Collection (probably) next weekend.

I going to view another car today in spite of having nowhere to park it and being low on funds, Mrs Cyl wants this so when I said how much we have spent on cars this year she just said "not listening"!!!!

MOT time for the LNA.... Please light a candle in the house of the Autoshite deity for me...(!)

Hopefully get to use it a bit more this coming year - 800 miles between MOT's is a bit embarrassing.

You don't need that carb ! Let me have it for dads one !

Try French eBay - I got the new old stock one from there, by searching completed listings. Cost about £110 delivered to the UK, but brand new Solex 32 PBISA 12's don't grow on trees these days.

(I'll be rebuilding the old carb, if your dad gets really stuck?!)

My manager sat me & and a few other of the team down for a briefing re: Tracker in Van.

He did a slide projection of..

1. Speed (@ location)

2. G-forces (turning/stopping)

3. Routes/timings (vis an ETA promise/expectation)

We are moving over to a 'live hourly timesheet'.... Paid for only 'key in AM - till - key out PM' daily work done.

Well... FckuAduck :(

E.U. have said travel is part of your day - so that is sorted then.

I did not buy the Chryler New Yorker, intermittent misfire at idle, oil leak on to manifold heat shield making smell - rocker or head gasket, vibration at 60 mph, n-s-r wheel arm filler cracking, steering wheel lop sided + the declared items such as a few dings and scratches and central lock not working on o-s-f door. I think I am cured?

I doubt it, you will probably now buy something entirely different in a fit of pique just to make up for it. And it will be worse.

Or is that just me?

I still have a want list from a K Kar to a bus, but MUST control my self we have 24 cars with MOTs and nearly as many projects! enough, enough enough!

Have you always had loads or has it just grown and grown? I think I had seven or eight at one point, a few months before my daughter was born, and decided after a non stop car repair oriented Bank a Holiday weekend that enough was enough.

Just got my car back from the painters. Bloody hell, what a crackin' job! All the dents gone completely, dodgy paint repair on the passenger side doors vanished, mirrors like new and the paint finish and match are perfect. They have done a fantastic job and in just three days, When they delivered it back they even polished it again as they'd washed it before leaving the shop and it hadn't dried perfectly enough for them.
They were telling me that Rick had made four wheelarches for a Spirit and fitted them in four days. Made them!
They are only young (late twenties/early thirties) but time served guys that are seriously keen on doing the job 'right'.

I'll post before and after pictures as soon as they send them. Oh, and they found RUST! Only a little bit at the bottom of the passenger side wing and eradicated and gone but they have the pictures to prove it

It really looks fantastic and soooo smooth and shiny. They left the chips up on the top of the door (passengers) as I didn't want them to go above the pinstripe. They were confident they could match the stripe but the original is painted on and I wanted it to stay. So I have a chip on the door that they have touched in and built up with clear so it hardly shows anymore.  They even did all the little chips in the rear spoiler (it had hit something at sometime) and it's great.

I am REALLY impressed, and I'm a right fussy twat.

Oh and price.... yes I kidded on that I was paying a fortune for this to be done (hoping someone would call me on it) but they charged me £700 for all that!

My kids are 27 and 34 and living in Canada, Mrs Cyl loves cars so we have always had lots of cars but never this many. It is a problem I spend a lot of time just organising them and then there is the cost and where to keep them. On the other hand those I would be prepared to sell Mrs Cyl does not want to and the other way round! So for now I guess they stay and I always have something to talk about on here!

Have just purchased this little beauty.

Picked it up from deepest Hertfordshire and drove the 90 miles back with absolutely no incident. It really is as clean as it looks!

Astra has found a new home with RELAYSHUNS of The Moog - pleasure to meet Owain. Hope the car serves you well.

Looks like a late phase 1? Most Y plates are phase 2 so well bought.

How many miles has it done?

Nice standard looking Tec S  8)

KV6 performed superbly today. Making a trip from North Worcestershire to Evesham, filled up with various car tat which included 3 wings, various boxes, 4 tyreless alloys and 1 tyred alloy and some wheel trims. It then pounded the motorway to Birmingham because annoyingly I'd left the keys to the garage at Ma's in Birmingham. Keys found, picked up and off to Telford we went. Car unloaded at garage and a swift connection to the 820e's battery terminals to see if it would start up, it didn't, not a flicker. It'll need a battery of its own which is fine, but that'll be for another time.

Got back here in good time to chill before going to bed. New job starts properly tomorrow so need to wake up very early...

Thanks dude, yes it's a Ph1 - June 2000 build but not registered until May '01.

Totally original even down to the keyfob and number plate on the front - service history until last year and even found the original mats under the boot carpet! Result! Has done 117k.

Checked the 850 over in half arsed preparation for the MOT. It needs new track rods and it took most of the afternoon to work out which steering rack it has so I could order some. I ordered gaiters, track rod ends too and a CV boot too, lots of shiny bits for the tester to look at.

Krujoe suggested the noise I've been getting under acceleration might be the top engine mount and, sure enough, it was buggered. Crap "before" picture.

The dead V70's mount looked ok so I've just used that. The V70 has a beefier bush at the bulkhead end so I had that too, it's the first time that car has yielded any useful spares.

Fleet news-

A weekend of great weather over Dartmoor. Took out the transit loaded up with bikes;

And later a tip run where it was eyed up suspiciously by staff. Vans are allowed up to 3.5t GVW- I think they just didnt like the look of it!

The Granada hasn't moved but does have a choke cable routed and fitted to the dash.

Speaking of Fords, I crossed one in the Range Rover

There's me thinking even I can't cock up an oil and filter change. RONG! Did it on the Cav yesterday together with new spark plugs, and after a 50 mile run to go and see some 1970s leaping cat tat in Essex (more on that later, if I can build up the courage to buy it...) I hear a clunck and the oil light comes on. I stopped in front of a Vauxhall dealer/repairs gaff which was rather apt, had a look under and the filter was resting on the front subframe, oil spunked everywhere. I tried to put it back on, but it just wouldn't take like it had been threaded or something. Great.

After a 2 hour wait I got recovered home, and now I think back it is the wrong filter as I bought it for the Metro ages ago, but saw one on the shelf in my garage and somehow thought it was for the Cav. What a twat. The recovery guy was a Vauxhall perv and a serial Vectra owner, so I had a decent chat with him on the way home. He put the old one back on for the time being, glad I didn't chuck it!

On the plus side, before the filter fail I nipped in to Brands Hatch as the HSCC championships were on. As it was 4pm the old boy on the gate let me in for free, so I got to see 2 hours of historic racing for nowt.

Had a ftp with civic tonight. Pullig away from lights with massive clunk and lost all drive.

Instantly suspected gearbox. Managed to push it into sainsbury car park. AA called and took them 90 mins to send a small van to confirm they need a flat bed or similar. Diagnosed inner cv joint is fucked.

2 and a bit hours before very nice man turned up in van and a framed me home.

How difficult is it as a job to do?

Posted

IIRC it's not too bad. Civics are generally pretty easy to work on aside cambelt access on 1.4s and rear suspension bushes.

Cool. Ordered full driveshaft and found couple of YouTube vids that make it look easy.

Yes but she has an opinion as to what we should have!

I always say my wife has excellent taste as she chose me.

Did it achieve that figure by running backwards, like Christine's?

Moog , are you sure it's the inner joint ? They used to break the driveshafts under the rubber damper bit . They rust under them until they reduce in size enough to break
