Does your flat have headlamp washers? Plus I bet it was smaller than an 850 Estate anyway.

I've just had a tour around and rummage through Collectors Car Parts' new premises in Thorpe. He's moved from Sipson because of the threat of Heathrow

.

A friend of mine is helping with moving and website etc. Howard was very friendly and keen to get car clubs meeting there (and buying stuff) especially over the winter. Tens of thousands of gaskets, su repair kits etc, etc. I saw three pairs of brand new bumpers for allegro and marina, a spoiler for an Audi 80, hubcaps for everything from a Daimler to a ford.

Shame he moved. Missus Moog said if I ever won the lottery* I could have a shop like that.

The MOT is almost due on the Granada. Gave it a check over today, only thing I found that might be an issue was one front brake sticking slightly.

Took the wheel off and the disc/hub can be turned by hand so it's not seized. Just seemed a little stiff. Took the pads out, cleaned them up and the calliper and retaining pins. It seems that one of the pistons is a little sticky so I've pumped it out and pressed it back in a few times, which seems to have freed it off. Seals etc all look like new still.

Reassembled it all and regressed the pads and mounts and all seems well. Changed the brake fluid too for good measure.

Fingers crossed it'll be ok for the test! The flexi hoses are all a little perished but no obvious splits or cracks, they look rather old though so we'll see what happens, I think I'll change them anyway as soon as possible.

Also gave the interior a good clean and fixed the broken passenger door grab handle/arm rest. It's been ripped away from the door card at some point which has torn the vinyl trim around it.

I've tucked the vinyl back in behind the velour panel and managed to put a washer around the handle mount screw and tightened it back up. It's held nice and tight so looks like a nice cheap fix! Looks better now too, although you can still see the rip in the vinyl between the handle and door card if you look for it.

Just need to book an MOT on Monday and see what happens. I could do without spending much at the moment due to the Mercury's expensive repairs!

Asda veg has gone up to £10 for 10l, or £1.20ppl according to the shelf label. Asda derv is £1.10ppl atm, so no more veg for a while.

Pez is £1.14 still, wtf happened, i thought derv was being taxed up high to force everyone to sack it off?

Beige? Check.

Crap to drive? Check.

Shit on fuel? Check.

Needs welding? Check.

Slow? Check.

Electrical issues? Check.

Leaky roof? Check.

My job next week involves trying to get this P.O.S welded and through an MOT.

I now know why Bobby Ewing really chose to spend a few years dead.

This morning 'strapped up bonnet golf' made it back to Derby OK. I suggested Sis go via Lincoln, Newark & Mansfield, basically avoid the M1...

May have seemed a bit OTT, but about 20 years ago I was driving a car in which the bonnet flipped up and hit the windscreen. I stopped OK and there was no disaster, but I wouldn't wish that automotive experience on anybody. A real brown trouser moment...

My day at the Capel Bangor Show.

I did not have the most modern car in the line-up. I tried to hide this BMW's horrible lights behind a post though. Otherwise, I like it.

There were some interesting cars about, including this 4500-mile Saab 90 (I got a headlamp wiper video!) and my mate's Subaru pick-up.

Without doubt, this is the best Triumph TR4 in the world. Hubcaps! There was another on Minilites. Booooring.

This Rolls-Royce is delightful, and the owner smoked a pipe. Love the thermostatic grille slats.

In the arts and crafts competition tent, I found this lovely photo. Mrs DW won a cup for her home brew.

This evoked some memories!

Not a bad day out, just a shame the weather was so bad. The lunchtime parade was cancelled because of it.

Can't believe I just watched a vid of a headlight wiper.

It was ace, nice smooth action. Cool!

Spent today on my mk2 Transit camper conversion. Finally got the Formica top surface glued onto the kitchen work top. I tried doing it last weekend but accidentally dropped the Formica onto the work top and the glue is instant! That piece ended up smashed to bits trying to pull it back off again!

This time it's worked a treat. Lovely and smooth.

Got the sink in and I've just got to wire the tap microswitch up to the water pump. Then next weekend I'll install some storage shelves and the cupboard doors.

I'll be re lining the rear door trims in grey carpet too. The old brown vinyl looks shit.

It's starting to come on now. With any luck (and if I get my finger out!) it'll be in use by spring!

More camper stuff. Decided to rip the 1990's carpet off the dashboard and replace with faux suede in snappy mid-blue. That done, I've started ripping out the carpet flooring too, replaced with off cuts bought from evilbay for £1.98. I had an adult (the wife) do the cutting out as I'm still not allowed to handle sharp pointy things, even though the case was, Not Proven...

More on that story, later...

The carpet that is!

Expansion tank changed and brakes bled on A4. There's a 2 pin sensor or something on the bottom of the expansion tank that has a different shaped plug on it to the one on the car (bloody Audi and their revisions), but the car is perfectly happy with it disconnected (trying to bridge it gave a low coolant warning).

Tam and I were the burger flippers at our annual BBQ.

The usual eclectic mix of veehickles were on show (despite the forecast rain and 12 degrees of heat)

Slight cock up today

So I set about a temporary repair

post-4555-0-94340700-1438549661_thumb.jpg

I like the fact that under close inspection the plastic has ' freshly made in store' embossed on it. A new lens is on it's way and efforts will be made to find a replacement surround.

The wing is acceptable to me but might want a couple of rivets and will need some gaffer tape for the MOT.

Asked by a friend of ours if he could sell his sons car as the dealer only offered pennies in part exchange, which I agreed to do.

Bit of a mistake there, turns out,

-Its a Renault

-10 years old

-2.0 petrol

-Road tax is just under £300 per year

-Scuffs, scrapes and dents all over

-Possible gearbox problem

-Automatic

Its a Megane Scenic if it makes any difference

Isn't this going to be just about the most un-sellable car ever?

Small people carriers can do surprisingly well at car auction as the punters think practical rather than TAX and GEARBOX.

Good to know it won't be completely un-sellable!

Does anyone know of any cheap temporary insurance so as to drive it to my place?

I celebrated BL Day by drilling out some rusted bolts on the A35 (one of the hinge pins that was stuck in the hinge on the nearside rear door, and the two remaining bolts holding the boot latch into the old bootlid).  That's about all I got to do on it this weekend.  The boot latch mechanism is seized to feck so I've saturated it with penetrating oil and will have a proper bash at freeing it off next weekend.  I was also going to have a go at grinding back the welds on the replacement front wing that Angrydicky gave me, but I could'nt find the spanner thingy to change the grinding discs, so that didn't happen.  I've ordered some Land Rover Series II hing pins as they look about the same - couldn't find any A35 ones.

Then this evening I spent a happy hour or so finding more grot on the 200 VI.  I hadn't really touched it in ages, but a mate came round yesterday and fancied a go in it so we took it for a blat, which reminded me what an entertaining thing it is on the road.  So I went out there full of motivation, ready to measure up the rotten bit of sill and then start making up a repair section.  Then I made the mistake of poking at a loose bit of paint on the arch with a screwdriver.  Ten minutes later it looked like this.

post-190-0-93879600-1438552810_thumb.jpg

Fucksticks.

Still, at least the offside wasn't too bad - I managed to make a small hole in the rear arch and the bottom of the front wing, but the sill stubbornly resisted my attempts to penetrate it with a screwdriver.  I'm not sure what to do with it now though - I think repairing that might be beyond my (very limited) bodywork skills (or at least repairing it properly, rather than trowelling it full of wob).  I was all set to order it a new rear wheel bearing, but I might not bother now.

Other than that, this weekend's fettling was limited to slapping Gun Gum on blowing exhausts (Carina, Innocenti and Forester), an hour spent trying to get the front wheel off the V70 (some Kwik Fit monkey had rattle gunned the wheel nuts up to about 850 lb/ft, and even jumping up and down on the breaker bar had no effect - I eventually had to get the end of the bar on the trolley jack and jack it up), and removing the gearbox fill plug on the Renner van in the forlorn hope that the gearbox weirdness might have been down to low oil level (it wasn't.  Also gearbox oil fucking stinks).

Just been on the Rimming Brothers website - they have a whole nearside body side for a Rover 200 for 100 quid.  I started to get excited - I could buy one, chop out the bits I need and still have it work out cheaper than buying individual sill repair sections.  Except that onto that £100 price you have to add a £50 "packing charge", then VAT on the whole, then shipping.  So 100 quid has suddenly more than doubled.  Bugger it.

£180 inc vat plus shipping?

Got to be another £50 at least.

Why not buy another car to chop up?

because it'll be rotton in the same places;)
