Funny you should mention that, my pal has a 2008 Vectra SRi that tows his caravan- it's a 1.8vvt-thingymabob too.  He says it's ok at handling the extra weight when towing but nothing special.

It's surprisingly good on fuel though, he gets 45mpg tank to tank and it shifts well for a bloaty modern lump.

Thanks, only reports of issues on them seem to be a weak clutch. Has your mate had any issues and do you know the mileage on his SRi? It way turn out that not all Vauxhal'ls are shite after all

No clutch problems.  His is a looked after one though and it's only done 50k.  Only thing that has gone wrong was the window regulator on the driver's door.  Fixed quite cheaply with some bits from ECP!

I've spent the last few days refurbishing a set of alloys for a work mate. They came to me all corroded, kurbed and generally just tatty with missing paint after 130k and 14 years.

I'm really pleased with how well they have come out, I didn't take any pictures before so you'll have to imagine some tatty alloys.

Looks like a cracking job there Trig.  What did you use to sort out the kerbing, just wire brush, sanding and P38?  I need to do a bit of quick tidying on the Yeti's alloys before I flog it.

I used a file to deburr the end of rim where there was any excessive damage, then rubbed the worse out with some 40 grit paper, a small skim of filler if the damage was too deep to sand out, then smoothed back with 80, 180 and 240 grit paper, then 240, 400 & 600 grit wet and dry, rubbed them all down with a red scotch pad to key them up, Primed them, once dry flatted back with 800 grit W&D and then cleaned up and painted.

Now I want to see what one of these looks like in a high polished aluminum finish. Sparkly

Just arranged to get my spare bigger turbo checked/ rebuilt . Pop that on and a quick remap and I should be up to approx 275hp . Should be lively . Better fix the warped discs first I reckon

If this isn't too many questions what paint did you use Trig? Old Man wants to do the same thing to his Civic wheels for when he trades it in.

I also may have a golf tdi pd coming into me at a price that encourages veg related testing

I can't remember of the top of my head! Auto something in a black can with green writing, I'll have to check tomorrow once I'm home. My local motorist shop sells it and it's really good stuff, sprays nicely, covers well and isn't too sliver like some paints. £6.99 a can for alloy wheel paint and the same for the wheel lacquer.

I saw you in your Land Rover either yesterday or Monday Skoze, you were just coming out of Purdeys Way. Unfortunately I was driving a crappy modern van rather than anything interesting.

That Auto-Tek paint is really rather good. Used a couple of cans of gloss black to tart my shabby alloys up and the finish was very good indeed, despite me not prepping the wheels properly.

Lacquer Peel will confirm/deny this, but I'm pretty sure the PD engines won't run (for long) on veg.

I did think that . It's prob the intank pump that doesn't like it

if it is chuckaway cheap, °and a 130/150bhp i would have the fish off it if it lunches it on teh veg:)

Cheers, the ones i am looking at are about 50k full service history too. Thanks again for the info.

Today my mechanic found the cause of that rattling in the rear suspension of my P6B. (New shockers and noise still there)

The cause? The &%#£@! top links had been put in backwards!

Why the %&+* hadn't I noticed this myself? It's no wonder the bushes were prematurely stuffed.

My old man has decided to sell this as he don't use it at all.

I know it's not shite money but it is a weapon.

C43 amg

He wants £4k if anyone is interested, has had near enough the whole front end painted to eliminate rust.

Full merc history, replacement gearbox at merc a few years back.

A couple of silencers taken out so it sounds fruity, 4x new bridgestones a month back.

It's a ace q car really as it don't shout about being a amg.
