Bags first dibs on the blue Toledo

I pass a metallic grey Tesla quite regularly on the way to / from work.  Took me a little while to work out what it was - looks a bit like an XF from the back.

Two MOT passes today.  The Spacy went straight through; the Magentis failed its first retest as the tester didn't like the way I'd routed the replacement brake pipe (which was a bit all over the place to be fair as I'd lashed it on at the weekend in the drizzle).  So I've spent a happy three hours this afternoon crawling round under the car removing the old brake pipe section by section, completely removing the new pipe and then refitting it using the clips and clamps which held the old one (and which needless to say were rusty / seized etc).  Got there in the end, but it's reminded me how much I dislike working under cars - it took me ages to wash the brake fluid out of my hair.

Anyway, the Magentis will be up for sale soon - I need to send off for a V5 first.  Not sure what to do with the Spacy at the moment - I'm rather fond of it for some reason but I'm not sure it'll be up to the daily commute.

Had a brief chat with my transport guy Sergio today; Moby the granada mkII will soon be beached on his trailer and should be with me by the end of the week.

Why " moby"? It's big, white, and slow, and in poverty "L" form an endangered species of sorts.

Mrs Cyl is braver than me and has taken our GS out tonight for a 60 mile round trip including returning in the dark! I will keep you informed.

Just picked up the 2cv with fresh mot. No advisories (well, what we don't show the mot tester can't hurt him) again, and the full service and mot was exactly the same £162 as last year. Traffic in west London today though was appalling. I'd have got out and walked if I hadn't needed to get the car to where I was heading!

Courtesy car was a very impressive y reg skoda Octavian estate that my mechanic friend has just bought with proceeds from selling his bx txd. Petrol, blue with 156000 miles. Perfect inside and out, air-con and electric windows. £500 apparently, and it had a major service cam belt and water pump last year and 8000 miles ago. I liked it a lot, but the seats were very hard and the ride not as soft as my Mercedes.

Idly checking out tax and such online and remembered to check the Renault.  First registered on the 7th of April 1975.  Tax exemption for historic vehicles is for those built before the 1st of January 1975.

I can either wait until next year when it automatically becomes tax exempt or I can do that thing where you find the build date of your car to see if it's already tax exempt.  How do I do that?  Do I just write to Renault or something?

As LS will know, the 800 also has a well-deserved reputation for ball-joint destruction - maybe it's something Mo secretly is drawn to; the danger of collapsing front wheels. Glad you had a relatively lucky escape fella.

Fairly sure Renault won't tell you.

From memory you need to join the Renault Owners Club as they have a chap who does all that stuff. I think they can get the build dates from Renault in France and give you something official to confirm it.

MsJ was busy discussing the new Octavia with one her work colleagues.

Turns out said work colleagues lives 3 doors up from the Octavia's one previous owner.

She has confirmed he's a doddery old fella who kept it garaged and clean all it's life, drove on the clutch and generally giffered it good and proper.

Resale corner - despite appearances this is actually spot on mechanically and drove down from Dundee only within the last few weeks. It's the former Yorkshire Traction 611 (SHE 611Y). Offers around £2-2.5k would secure.

Buses and shizz

That Yorkshire Traction bus used to take me home from school, along with others. Our buses were all 'Tracky' SHE reg's from the Barnsley depot. I distinctly remember SHE 111Y as our school was in a village called Shelley. 'Twas red back in the old days.

Small world.

Re-assembly is reversal of removal.

The Stellar only required ball joints to pass its MOT today.  I let the garage do it because the all-in, MOT and VAT inclusive cost was a very reasonable £227.  I had budgeted £450, so well happy :-) .

Try the Renault classic car club for dating as the bloke who I tried to deal with through the owners club was a bit of a jobsworth. Renault do charge for the info though. Try the dealer first if you can find an old school one with staff that are helpful and interested in older Renaults. They can get the info but usually are too lazy so just pass you off to the owners club.
