After the SF weekend limping around in the poorly HMS granada, I've had a complete contrast these last few days whizzing about in the Ka.

They share a badge, a colour and rusty sills but have little else in common, apart from each being fun to drive in their own way.....

Having driven both a Ka and a Granada of this era I'd be hard pressed to choose between them.  They are both very different and quite satisfying in totally different ways.  It's sensible to have one of each and shares in welding supplies, sheet steel and underseal.

The XM is not entirely loving its new diet of veg. It's an absolute sod to start in the morning now. Four attempts this morning, and more smoke than Will's 205 on boost. Oh well. An interesting experiment. It's probably eaten its way through 20 of the 40 litres Will put in it now...

I found 40% or so veg and it would run OK but you did need to prime the pump often.

Following comments at the weekend at goodwood, and earlier at brooklands we've just upped the agreed value on the fiat to £6k. They do want an extra £35 a year though.

I've definitely seen that 309 around. Hasn't moved far in its life either, sold new from Curries in Westcliff, which occupied the building on West Road now occupied by Southend Hyundai. Curries sold Peugeot/Talbot cars for many years. Before then it was a Rootes/Chrysler dealership called Holmes and Smith. At least the building is still standing, most old car dealerships have been demolished, including the local Austin/Rover franchise a couple of years back.

It's been owned by an elderly guy all it's life. He is 90 and has given up driving so his grandson is selling it. I was quite surprised it went for so little (as was his grandson).

It will be an interesting drive home that's for certain, it's the furthest I have been for a car (apart from the R14)!

SWMBO has named the Kia "Eddie".

I left Wales expecting castration and now she's more or less commandeered the sodding thing.

I don't even know.

404 returns on Thursday! Apparently it's knocking like a bastard, even if it is now fuelling more or less correctly. Ho hum. Anyone got a spare low mileage 404 pez motor going begging?

Got my insurance renewal through today - I was dreading it a bit as the underwriter I was with has stopped writing policies and they'd always been the cheapest by quite a margin, but it's actually almost exactly the same price as last year, which is a relief.

Oh, and bit late to the party, but congrats to Trig and Mrs Trig.  Keeping everything crossed for you.

Re: V888 form - I've found an old service book from one of my cars I used to own that I'd like to pass on to the current owner. Does this mean if I fill that form in then they can give me the addresses of the previous owners of the car before I owned it or after? Confusing....

...off to looks at NEW SHITE 2005 1.8 MONDEO on behalf of 'ma'dieselassist, tomorrow - she currently 'booms about' in a 98 mk4 golf - all taxed n tested -which I sold her for the pricely sum of €380 (had 6 months test on it at the time n I replaced its cracked case gearbox), which has done 190k miles but has had new fuel pump, rear springs (put stiffer bora ones in), new engine (previous owner), 60k miles gearbox replacement (by me)... but the exhaust is leaky n its all about the 'year on the plate here', so she up for a change...

Ive stumbled across a local 05 1.8 mondeo, which is stupid cheap - ma' assist seems happy enough to swallow the extra cost of tax on a bigger motor- the seller conveys a 'gearbox linkage' failz/needs to be towed caveat - always a catch (also has some mild body rubbage_ cosmetic shall we say); I'll A frame it home, naturally - anyone know if gearlinkage/gate probs is 'prevalent on these mondoes??? Myself n the bro are goin to 'work as a team' - me to 'by hand' select gears while he does the clutch/go pedal action to check the box works / no DMF probs.... WCPGW etc.

... well that's the present semi drunken plan at least...

'kin 'el.

I would gnaw off my right arm to rifle through that lot.

Reminds me of this...

Was up for £750k.

I have dreams of winning the lottery and then buying the whole shooting match.

BTW were you still interested in that Wolseleylelyley?

1.6, 85bhp injected pez, later five-main bearing type.

Wolz looks so nice, but we had a a flash of common sense when we realised the Atlantic pretty much does everything the Wolz would do (ie satisfy a craving for dynamically rubbish, leathery old British porridge). I saw it was up on ebay, did it not sell in the end? Or is there now a big price reduction...?

Gave the Jag of much Beige a clean today, and it doesn't half scrub up well for a cheapo barge.

Congratulations Trig and Mrs_Trig, that's great news.

In other news, I decided that prior to its trip to France I would treat the R4 to a proper service and going over by a professional. Result is that it's properly sorted now, only needed a steering rack gator for MOT but they've done the tracking and given the engine once over and it drives superb now. Well chuffed.

Garage also had a mint TR7 on the ramps and a tidy but accident damaged Volvo 240 in the yard.

If a boy on pistonheads has admitted to owning a Datsun Cherry Turbo, would it be considered germaine to point him in the direction of these hallowed halls?

Congratulations Trig, that's wonderful news.

I dunno... depends whether he's typical pistonheads material, or a nice person.

IMP News......

A guy in the imp forum, bodyshop/restorer of excellent repute, has just launched [very appropriate verb] a BMW bike engined Clan.

The flat K100BMW engine fits totally as a replacement of the Rootes all-ally 875.

..looking forward to him fitting out some of the HotShoes in the club.
