Came down this morning after a 2 am finish at work.

Wife says "Caroline Flack won strictly".

Sorry dear, you must have me confused with somebody who gives a fuck.

Caroline who?

If she's not been draped over the bonnet of a Renault Five in the Sexism thread, I won't know her.

Finally got the Merc back to garage, job was to have new brake pads fitted and wing fitted on. Brake pads were fitted but the rear ones were not as they were Ok so I was advised not to have them changed.

I ended up changing the wong myself as one of the mechanics left early and another was on holiday. The hinges at the bottom of the drivers door had to be undone to get access to the last bolt. The corrosion on the wing was something to behold, it was worse than first thought.

Had a bit of trouble getting the indicator light back in and then the lense fell off, just like a Rover. In fact apart from the bolts behind the door, the wing set up is very similar to the 800 as are the rust problems.

It looks better and the line-up isn't bad for a first timer although it's not too flush with the bonnet topside. Will have to sort this out at some point.

Pm me your address and I'll put an orange wing repeater in the post foc. I swapped mine for clear ones.

Not quite a Renault 5, but it turns out she was in the Sexism thread!

Last night's show was bloody marvellous. We just about managed to stream it in HD.

I said I'd weld up a hole in the sill of my mates camper van that's actually an 05 Peugeot boxer minibus. Sure enough there's a big fuck off hole in the sill but but when I got into it I found all the inner sill and floors gone too. I could get my head in the hole. Anyway I made up a repair panel and was 5 minutes into it when my welder jammed.

I then spent over an hour fucking around with the twatting thing until I lost the plot and booted it breaking off a bit of handle. I'd just chopped about 3 sqm out this van with no way of welding it back in.

I eventually switched switched the wire, changed the tip but it was jamming in the gun. I had to take the gun to bits and feed the wire in manually and it started working again. Fucking thing. I got about 90% of it done but need to weld in the last of the floor.

I got the body fully disconnected from the subframes on the MX5 the other night, it has been lifted back and front and all is free, just need to borrow some muscle and lift the thing off next :)

I ordered a new unrestricted variator from Taiwan and a leo vince exhaust from Italy for the vision too, should hopefully get it up to 40 odd mph and mean I can use it for work next year :)

Can anyone tell me who was the VW/Audi Dealer in south west London (BGJ reg) in the early 80's?

Amongst other things, I had a very brief look at the 928 today, which starts up fine, isles reasonably well but gets juddery over 1500 rpm and dies at over 2k rpm.

I suspect it may well be a fuelling issue, so we will try a few things to pin down what is going on.

It's suit like this why first I deleted mates* then just stopped using faceache altogether. I'm just don't give a shit what you had for tea or where you out at. If I want to know I would ask.

actually put some petrol in the Frontera today. First time that £30 has moved the dial to near half the other week it was £50

Gah! Spent the afternoon/early evening at Tinworm's helping to move long-time unmoved cars and shovelling the mud and crap that had collected under them. On the plus side I also got to briefly drive a 1.5 Diesel Rover 100 and a Diesel Land Rover Discovery.

At Mahmouds garage I drove yet more Vauxhall Astras (this place always has an abundance of Vauxhalls, it was the same when I worked there, trying to get one and bring it to the workshop saw me taking at least 7/8 Vauxhall keys as I got tired of running back and forth, nothing has changed) a Volvo V50 and a little Smart that sounds like a Mk2 Corsa.

Don't do it.

That's as much effort as I shall expend on persuading you not to, now, on to the reasons why you should...

I fail to see a reason why you shouldn't buy a Proton !.3.

As probably mentioned before, I've got a new* car;

The collection caper was so short that it didn't actually move at all. Instead I went to BIL Swampy21's house (which is about 30 seconds walk from here) and gave him some money for it.

Since then I've solved one or two minor issues and driven about in it marvelling at the wonders of 40mpg and a fuel gauge that barely moves.

Medium term plans include a service, sorting the advisories from the MOT, some bits and bobs like mudflaps etc. And trying to sort a few other minor issues.

Ok, after a successful replacement of my season ticket for the train due to much lossage of previous copy,

I wish to launch this seasons 'autoshite good cause appeal'

"

Adrian was only 21* when his beloved vulva was written off.

"It was like someone ran a stagecoach through it" says he.

Now he's living in a mitsubishi charisma and his glovebox lacks even the soft centre werthers.

FOR JUST £2 A MONTH, you can help Adrian achieve his 'room and kitchen Volvo dreams'

FOR JUST £5 A MONTH, you can fund our specially trained SVM rescue experts, so they can don their hi-vis and help Adrian get "goin like fuck" again.

Please help if you can, he has a Charisma, but no charisma and he NEEDS a volvo.

This appeal was on behalf of the BSVMWNAV support trust.

Thank you for listening.

Please call 0800 beige-phone to donate.

Do it now!"

Came to work in the Jag today, my first real drive of it.

Having used various pretty dire diesels recently, I couldn't believe how quiet it is and how comfortable.

I doubt I will be getting a jag, but I am looking forward to replacing the diseasel vectra with something much more refined.

Now that I'm no longer a Rover owner does any one want this spiffy 80's grey leather Rover wallet I've got? One of my old colleagues worked for a Rover dealer in the 80's and got given it at some car launch or other.

It's hard to think of a single car that won't fit the bill. You might just as well delete all the Vauxhalls from an Autotrader search, spin through the pages and fire a suction dart at your computer blindfold.

Pulled the starter motor off the 2CV, as it has been a bit sluggish of late. Pulled it apart, admitted I hadn't got a clue what I was doing, cleaned out any nasty gunk, greased bits that should move and reassembled. Which was a bit of a game. Fitted to 2CV. Didn't work at all. Bother. Noticed that the solenoid part seemed to be the wrong way round. Starter motor back off, solenoid bit dismantled and reassembled the right way, back on the car again. Spinny, spinny catchy engine. I could hear that it wasn't disengaging very quickly though. After a couple of test starts, it began to not engage. Oh here we go.

Back off again, took the solenoid bit apart and greased the piston within - perhaps that was sticking. I'd greased everything else. Reassembled again. Was starting to wish I'd removed the wings by this point as my lower back was starting to scream from leaning over the wings. Still occasionally sticky. Soddit. It was firing the engine into life very quickly indeed - less than a second of churn. Occasionally, it won't engage, but generally it does second or third time. I probably knackered something up when I had the solenoid pack the wrong way round (and tried hurling many amps across it incorrectly wired). I have managed to find a spare starter motor in my chaotic stash, but I'll see how the one fitted goes.

All this faff seems to have taken hours. My goal of 'feel good' for a cheap fix is starting to feel more like 'should have just bought a new/recon starter.'

I'd love the wallet Cort16 if its still available. Will match the disappointing grey 75 I've been trundling around in for the last two years perfectly!

MG has had a fail to proceed. Luckily, it was a fail to start and leave the garage, rather than a fail in the outside lane of the M1 at "70mph".

Cranks, compression sounds OK (not whizzing round), lights good on dash, no petrol stink, not even a glimmer of firing. Has fuel, it had electricity in the battery although that all leaked out trying to start.

There endeth the diagnostics, as I had places to be. I didn't even glance helplessly at the engine.
