And a 'we can't let this go because we'll be done for manslaughter but might be able to fit you in today and do the job for just £5769436230.30' button too, presumably.

The 'Ford Ka exhausts only come in one piece' setting must be just out of shot, too.

Complete opposite today. Courteous, friendly, free coffee and were pleased to see 405 car still being used daily. Would definitely go back there. Gr9 service

Must be something in the air today.... I saw an 06 reg Zafira broken down on a roundabout earlier.

Saw a Landrover being recovered from a roundabout today, so there's definitely something doing the rounds.  Some sort of car lurgy probably.

To quote Winston Churchill, this Is the kind of nonsense up with which I shall not put.

My recently acquired Manta had a similar problem which has been diagnosed as a kippered starter motor solenoid.

Sadly starter motors are made of unobtanium out here. All things going to be plan, there should be a new one winging it's way from the UK at the moment

Funnily enough our Vectra went with a thud and a bang yesterday on way home from work. Nothing electronic or engine wise though. Just bust a front spring. Took me 2 hours in temperatures of 1 to 3•c with a table lamp to see what I was doing. Would have took a lot shorter time if the nuts weren't seized but would have took a lot longer if I didn't have my impact gun.

Steps to change ball joint.

Order special socket.

Receive special socket

Order ball joints

Collect ball joints

Realise special socket needs 35mm socket

Find shop open on Sunday that has one in stock

Start changing joint

Cheapy 12v impact wrench takes two seconds to whip joint off (feeling pleased with self)

Screw new joint in

Doesnt work because its too big by about 2mm

Check box and says definitely for 405

Check website and there are two sorts

ECP isn't open on Sunday and doesn't have other one in stock

Arse biscuits

Notice gearbox oil on floor, bollocks something else change.

Need the car up and running by Thursday to go to Scotland for a funeral.

Took the 2CV out this morning, as the merc was iced up. Quick 4miles around chobham common and all the frost had melted. My footprints from last night when I went out to look at the Geminid meteor shower are still visible though.

Collected the1989 Pajero V6 3000 yesterday evening after many repairs had to be done. It needed new wings in front, some welding at the sills, new brake-lines, fuel-lines, a new clutch, a new cambelt + all the stuff that goes with it, a new exhaust and some small other bits and pieces.

Runs great now (170.500 km on the clock), except a crunchy second gear, a faulty thermostat (engine does not get warm) and the heater-fan passing out sometimes and starting to work again suddenly. Most of the time.

Sadly I´ll have to get rid of the front-guard, it´s not allowed because of pedestrian-safety-laws.  :? Next days, I will clean it and look at the faults if I can repair them (except the crunchy second gear). I am as talented like Jeremy Clarkson, but there is hope.  :-D

Love it! So much faster, smoother and more fun to drive than my 2,5 TD.

Never quite understood that. If a ped gets hit at any speed by something the size of a Pajero/Shogun, would a bull-bar really make that much difference to how many bits have to be swept up?

something in my head is telling me you need a volvo, i used to hate supplying parts for pooojohs when i was at the parts shop, i ended up telling people to buy both sizes and bring me back what they didnt use if they didnt know what they had as that would be the easiest way to get the right parts

i know they can't sell so called bull bars any more for new vehicles, that was from about 2006, but didn't realise existing fittings had to be removed, does that also apply to Aussie spec front bumpers and other steel bumpers with winches protruding.

Do you want another?

I do. But I sold that one because I dont fit in it.

So I'll have to pass.

You should try working on PoohJoe dealer parts counter.

There is nowhere else to pass the buck. Plus dealing with Talbot Dodge Simca Chrysler Hillman Commer etc etc

Yeah, pretty sure mine will be approximately the same size (even with MG quality control). Ah well.

Not even close in the light of day.

Now have a new (old) gearbox for the AMM transit courtesy of Jonathan Dyane. 😊

The more than slightly rotten Blue GTA I had has found a new enthusiastic owner so it's saved which is great and also saves my driveway looking like a scrapyard which will make Mrs Hertz happy.

Fixed the alternator on my GTE so now I have a car to drive (providing i don't wish to go in reverse.)

@TheMoog:  ECP and Peugeot joining forces in some sort of axis of evil against DIY maintenance.

Just whatever they could be arsed to fit I'd say, i supplied arms for 306s where one side of the car had the bigger balljoint fitted and the other had the smaller fitted

Much was made of a dodgy dossier ( HBOL) and 40 minute claims ( cambelt swap, later the intelligence was found to be duff)

But it will look so much better without that guard. Too many 4x4s are spoiled by all of the accessory stuff that gets screwed to them. (And by terrible rough 4 cylinder Diesel engines)

I have a tat collection scheduled for Thursday, the first one in nearly a year! It's a wonderful car, in need of a little work, but it's being sold by a friend so is cheap. It's also running quite badly, which means it might struggle to make the 90 mile drive back. Going to load up the Maestro with tools and get the breakdown cover at the ready!

Nice! Is it coming back to Kent or Southend?

It'll be coming back to Southend, I'm back home for Christmas now. And it's not an Austin, or anything BLARG!

Two local motor factors only had bigger one in. Got one just in case.

Also ordered the correct coloured ones from ECP online to be delivered tomorrow. Fingers crossed it is one of them. Also hope it fixes the wandering.

CU L8R 306.

It's finally gone. A bit less money than I would have liked, but it's atill been a cheap and fun car to own.
