Ok cool will try that. Will they need to be bled again tomorrow?

It is actually missus moogs car and if I disabled it I will have to drive her everywhere.

If you want to lose weight buy a combi boiler.

I have and now I am 1440 pounds lighter.

Moog - Maybe, maybe not. - its something to try on systems that are reluctant to bleed properly. It helps if you can park the car on a slope with the front of the car higher than the rear.

simple one man bleeding kit is a jar or recepticle of your choice (i use newcastle brown bottles as they stand up well and if they fall over it doesnt go everywhere like a jar) a length of lear tube and a bolt.screw the bolt in the end of the tube, and cut a slit at an angle in the tube about an inch above it. when you pump the pedal, the fluid is forced out of the slit, but upon releasing t he pedal, the slit closes up and no air is drawn back in.always worked for me,one of those "how to" ideas from a 1950s popular mechanics i think :-)

Sounds like an excuse for a bottle of dog 😊

In flying pig news, missus moog has agreed to a thorough pumping ...

The Moog:

"Using the drill bit in nipple method I managed to crack them all with no shearing."

This sounds useful, please explain to this serial bleed-nipple breaker.

Posted

Saw it on a youtube video from us redneck guy.

Find a nail or old drill bit that fits inside the bleed nipple. If drill bit cut it so that it sticks out a bit (so you can get it out). Then use deep socket to loosen the nipple. The drill stops it collapsing internally.

He demonstrated it with a straw, nothing inside twist it and it collapses, something inside and it doesn't.

That along with wire brush, dash of plus gas and a gentle hammer tap seems to work.

Edit -found it

Shit me! That number plate has got to be worth something, especially if I buy myself a Rover 75. R75 MMO

Fuck me I've got a sudden desire to bleed the brakes! Top tips!

Would need to get a rear drivers side caliper though as the nipples sheared off...

I am sure we can do a special deal on it 😊

Browsing around a German supermarket and there's something strangely familiar about the shoe dept.....

Finally got a decent drive in the 18, K seal sealed the leaking water pump gasket.

Drove around most of the night and the fuel gauge didn't move.

The car puts a huge smile on my face in general.

Right, well today I decided to try and a Merc Gunsight mascot to my holder on the bonnet. I bought a Merc Gunsight off eBay for pennies, got it in post today and set about trying to fit it whilst I had Lady_Sterling issuing me with instructions on what she needs re: Marriage Certificate.

I finally managed to get the Gunsight inserted into the spring clip, fitted the holder back in the bonnet, then as I was adjusting the Gunsight, snap, off the Gunsight came. Brill.

Nae bothar. I've already got a proper Gunsight + Bonnet holder ready to fit on, though I reckon I'll only bother when I move out of here.

Here was the Gunsight, for all of 2 minutes:

Hoping to get the Princess back into the unit in another week or two, I really want to crack on with the welding over the festive period so I can then just focus on the easier mechanical stuff that I want to get sorted.  Seriously considering getting the displacers modified so they can have the nitrogen refilled properly before I put new fluid in the car, by all accounts it solves the issue of bursting spheres and improves the ride... but it's also 90 Eurocoins per corner plus postage to Germany and back so it's not cheap.  More places are starting to do it locally so prices may start to fall, it's not something I'm confident I can DIY.

I believe the Allegro club had started offering a modify/regassing service, they'll do any displacers not just Allegros. £100 each is bloody dear though... Mine need doing badly. I was thinking of trying local engineering firms, it's only really drilling a hole and welding in a shrader valve.

My Horizon is now MOT'd and taxed. Its last MOT was in 2008 on 45,783 miles it is currently showing 47,207

I will be "running it in" over the next few days. It drives well and is a lot quieter inside than you might imagine.

Hopefully going to get the new badges fitted and also going to have an oil and filter change next week and it needs a good valet inside. It has had new plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm. The only problem I can find at the moment is that the temperature gauge doesn't work, I do have a new sender switch for it so hopefully that will cure the problem.

What you need is a gentle ride over to Cannock on, say, this Saturday morning. When there you can give it a well earned rest while you eat some breakfast in the company of some fine automobile aficionados.

Thanks I would love to but unfortunately I am running the bookstall at our Christmas market.

I do definately want to come to Cannock at some point so next time you go, count me in.

Sometimes it is the simple things. Fitted new boot struts to 405, now I am in no danger of it clonking me on the head. As an added bonus it has stopped it rattling when shut.

Does a little fixing dance

After 97,000 miles the clutch starting slipping on my old Accord.

Cant be that hard to change surely ?

The HBOL said the engine needed suporting from above and 4 of the 5 mountings undoing then releasing the steering rack/suspension, driveshafts, exhaust ect before dropping the dropping the subframe to the floor and squeezing the gearbox out

After much cussing i managed to dangle the subframe down and wedge the box to one side to get to the clutch.

Still took me around nine hours though, getting old and lazy i guess.

Grump : Attempted to take the 214 to the shops yesterday evening, but it failed to proceed. Turned over fine, but wouldn't fire. I persisted a bit but gave up when the starter slowed down. I cursed the spirit of British Leyland (that haunts all AR products) and took my Megane to the shops.

Grin : I took the distributor cap off this morning, wiped the condensation off, cleaned the crusty contacts with some emery paper and put it back together with half a tube's worth of silicone grease. She fired up right away, despite the almost empty battery !

And this is why I love old shite, even a simpleton like myself can fix them !

I had a postcard from Mercedes Chester announcing their free rescue assist QR code offer. It basically enables the firemen to find out their safest way of cutting the roof off your car in a crash. I have taken them up on the offer available to all post 1990 cars and today popped into merc ascot to order said QR labels that fit in the petrol cap and door shut. Anything to lower the average price of the forecourt by £60k! I'd advise all w124ers on here to do the same, if only to annoy the dealers and grab a free coffee and paper.
