Log Book Loans+ a bloody good night on the piss.

Gosh. You get a lot of options for vehicle tax now don't you?

By8CeASCQAETEB4.jpg

Whoa, what??

I've just been on there and got upfront 6/12 month payments only. WHY??

Bunch of crap.

Posted

I've already paid Pillock. These are my options next time. All the September renewals were on the old prices.

Posted

Yep as DW says, only cars with tax expiring from October onwards are viable for all those options, which is annoying because I could of done with using the Direct Debit option this time round instead of paying £126 in cold today.

Posted

Same! Is tempting to cash the tax in at the end of the month and then give this DD business a go. Mind you, that'll probably fall over as soon as people start using it too..

Posted

I've SORNed it, out of interest I went back to see if now it's not showing as tax due whether I could get it to show DD options.

It doesn't, in fact it just stops at a dead end saying there's a transaction in process and to go to a post orifice or call Swansea if I need more help.

I might go to a PO after the weekend and see if I can set it up monthly....

Posted

Could this actually be the month that Cavette gets a Calibra & DW gets a car he wants ....

Keep tuned for further AS updates :-)

No, will not happen. You know that as soon as either get a car they both tell us all how wonderful they are then a month later they are both looking for a change. :-D  :-D

I think I'll give monthly a go when the time comes. "About £20.13" a month for the 1550cc+ tax band which isn't bad.

Anyway.

This week so far has been spent ruining the radio. The standard Volvo radio cassette is illuminated by the same tiny capless bulbs as the other stuff. Being a clever dick I decided to replace them with LEDs. It had gone well on the instrument lights so WCPGW?

I did it all properly and carefully. What I'd forgotten is how catastrophically shit I am at soldering and ballsed up one of the PCBs. So that was that.

All is not lost however. Thanks to some bits in the shed, a loom adaptor and my Aldi Tevion MP3 radio thing (complete with SD card slot for listening to photos in stereo) I'll still have tunes.

Take that mediocre skills!

I might* have tweaked the fuelling on the 405. I might* be grinning. Amazing how quick it might* be.

Here's a strange one, I had my new log book for the Mercedes arrive about a month ago then today I receive another identical copy of the same log book through the post? WTF DVLA?

Check the number in the top right. When the DVLA sent me several V5s for the Triumph they each had a different number. I just kept the highest numbered one, figuring that asking them about it would probably end up with my car permanently exported to Guinea-Bissau on a Q-plate.

News Update on bonanza Citroen MOT day:

XM has failed. On hydraulic leaks. Bugger, they were supposed to have been fixed before I put it away for the summer. I have booked it in with nice Mr Paul Clifford near Canterbury, I'll let him have a crack at it. Otherwise its going over the bridge because it's a real money pit. And that's coming from a DS owner.

Standby for a news update when I come back from collecting the DS saloon.

I ordered a replica tax disc for the Civic a couple of days ago from http://www.poplargreg.com/taxdiscs/taxdiscs2/indexdiscs.htm.

They arrived today on a order or return basis, For my £12 i got 3 copies with a dealer stamp from the supplying post office and date of first registration.

To be honest they aren't really VFM as all it is is just a photocopy of a blank disc which you can fill in yourself but it fills what would be a empty original dealer tax disc holder, I'm a bit 50/50 about it, I don't think my wife's cutting out has helped much either!

Paul Clifford is very good, and reasonably priced too. My mum always went there with her ZX, the car I learnt to drive in, and he also (or maybe the chap next door) does a very good line in chinese twist and go scooters in the unlikely event that you do bridge the XM!

What's happened to the PCB? Any photos...it may be savable?

It's got slightly mangled bulb contacts and I think I've shorted it somewhere due to shite soldering. I'll take it apart again and get some photos tomorrow.

There's another spare radio of a similar type here that doesn't work if anyone fancies trying to make a decent one of the two. Since they're cheap and quite undesirable I wasn't going to bother really.

I think I want a Charade GTti .... If anyone sees one for sale let me know.

Thx

Think I've talked myself back into wanting an XM. Bit academic  as the Rover has not sold yet anyway. In fact, neither of my cars have moved since Wednesday as I'm trying to rest a knackered tendon in my left hand. Typing is a right arse!

That is my concern I must admit. But, the way XM prices are going, they'll be unattainable for my meagre budget before long. I got to own a CX before all the cheap ones vanished, and a BX. XM is the logical next step. I can probably leave it a while yet before getting a Xantia. Rover 600 is still on the list, but I think practicality will win out here. I need a towbar and self-levelling suspension is bloomin' useful. Also, they're ace to drive.

I thought it was fixed but it broke down immediately after I took this picture, thinking might be air in the fuel line as I've changed the pump, and every time it cuts out the float bowl is dry.

New fuel line/clean the sender I reckon.

I also know of an Xm that needs recommissioning in Peterboghorror, if you don't buy it Wobbler, I'll get the bigger boys to call you names ;)

Started the triumph up today. Seeing as it hasn't been started in about 2 months it caught fairly quickly.

Jacked up the back and freed off each of the rear drums and took it for a tootle up the farm track and back.

I think the fronts might also be binding slightly but got it into second and doing 20mph.

Taken more photos and now going to lob it on gumtree and car classic as I need it gone.
