Or perhaps the leak just dumped oil all over the tyre/road during cornering....

Went to see my old mate earlier today, who I haven't seen for years.

Nice lunch and a chat and a look around his unit. 3 litre BMW V8 on the grass, BMW 2002 auto hidden round the back, another 2002 cabrio under a tarp in his unit, and a 3 series touring under another tarp behind it!

He has an Inca Orange 2002 tii on his drive at home as well. All need restoring which he will never get time to do but nice to see he has been busy accumulating chod.

I will go see him again later this week and see if I can get some piccies

Someone at my work is selling get this stunning 220 W155, 68000 miles with long mot for £2750ono. I won't lie, there's a temptation there, I actually think it's a cooler car than the Cortina too.

You know what to do........

Still wondering if I have bought a bent scooter for £70 even for a banjaxed one this seems cheap for a Pug.

Admittedly it has got a banjaxed engine, seller thinks its starter motor and needs a piston because it made a rattling noise :?

Personally I think it may be more serious as the bike stinks of burnt oil, the kick is just flailing about and it got a sheen of oil all over it.

Things I do know is wrong with it, indicator switch...

Will try and rebuild with a 70cc kit, worse case scenario is it gets broken for bits, its got keys, the V5 and an MOT until December 4th. Has newish tyres and all other bits look reasonable. Hey ho.

Collection was fun, shoved in a 3 foot camping trailer.

Looks good for the money that, very nice.   New pads and grips and it should serve you well.   Much better geometry than a lot of these cheap mountain bikes with the bottom bracket way to high, crap suspension forks etc.   If you find the ratios on the hub gear too high you can play about with a bigger sprocket, they're cheap and easy to do.

If anything it needs a smaller sprocket on the back.  I could practically ride it up a wall in first, and I find myself running out of revs in third (I'm a slow pedaller).  It does ride well though - I took it into work today, and as you say, the frame geometry is much better than any cheap bike I've owned.  Even the not-quite-so-cheap hybrid I've been using until recently had the pedal crank set too far forward for comfort.

The new number plate light cover for the Renner Six arrived today.  I've stuck it on with double sided tape for now as the bolt eyes on the hatch are missing - I'll probably end up using tiger seal, the old knackered cover had a bolt hole drilled through the middle but I want to avoid drilling this one if I can help it.

The car is gradually beginning to look more respectable, although it still has odd rear lights.  I also ordered some screen wash hose off eBay - it's unusually small diameter stuff (1/16") so none of the local motor factors had it.  The alternative was to fit an electric washer kit, but I rather like the rubber bulb on the floor, even if it is quite crap at actually washing the screen.

On the negative side, the pez tank has sprung a leak.

I've driven the Rover precisely twice in the past fortnight. The steering is sublime. The juddering brakes less so.

You need to buy this right the fuck right now.

I thought you were a 2cv driver?the gearbox has 5 forward braking speeds available..no need for middle pedal action;)

Trig, that Merc does look like good value at that money.  The stacklight "E-class" Mercs are starting to go up in price.  Lovely looking thing too.  And if you buy it, I might get to drive it. :-D

Would you consider selling the Cortina and replacing it with the Mercedes, Trigger? Has Merc ownership hit you that hard? I recently test drove a 1986 300TE petrol auto for a lad on another forum and must admit that although it was leggy, I was very taken by it. I could appreciate the use of an auto box in this case and in terms of comfort and noise levels, it highlighted what a crock of shit our fleet was. Still, I've plenty of time to grow old yet, so I was glad when the lad bought it, to save me the dilemma!

I would but it's like a step backwards in some respect, I think the Cortina is a cool car to look at but it gives me back ache and I'm starting to get a little bored of it now.

The trouble is that I've recently restored it so if I sold it I'd be taking a hit in what I've spent on it recently and wouldn't be getting my monies worth out of the work.

I'm not so much taken by Merc bur I've always found the old stack light ones to be a real good looking car, this one is a 4 speed manual though and needs new rear arches that I know off.

The way I drive, I fully exploit the excellent brakes the 2CV has. Though that also has a judder from iffy rear drums. Hoping to do something about that next week. Besides, few cars have as much engine braking as a 2CV! Super-short gearing FTW. The Rover barely slows down when you come off the throttle.

All you need is £2750 ;-)

Don't do it, Cortina > Merc.

Obviously this link is 2 years old but it could be worth asking them if they know if they're still available anywhere...

Today I locked my keys in the boot of the Cortina.

Luckily I had a flat blade screwdriver on hand which is all that's required to remove the rear seats.

Must have looked like a total tit mind.

Tried to get the rim changed on the saab today and it turned into a saga. The locking wheel nut just didn't work.

Took it to a garage where it broke 3 of their unlocking tools, before they ended up welding a nut on to get them off. Total time 90minutes from start to finish.

Now need to find 4 more replacement bolts. Then i can go and get the rim changed.

Pictures as promised. It's an insurance job, the bonnet flipped up on it. No major damage, the roof and screen are ok just the back corners of the bonnet are folded up and the scuttle is damaged. The owner has asked if we can sort the rot out in the bulkhead.

He's paying himself so we're just cutting the rot out and plating it. If it was a proper resto job the dash and engine would be out.post-5712-0-61361500-1410377133_thumb.jpgpost-5712-0-35138900-1410377196_thumb.jpgpost-5712-0-77097200-1410377228_thumb.jpgpost-5712-0-70515400-1410377258_thumb.jpgpost-5712-0-26274300-1410377287_thumb.jpgpost-5712-0-29749800-1410377314_thumb.jpg
