I fancy a faired up sports type bike, but I keep getting drawn towards old strokers, as that's what I grew up with. I'm just mailing someone about a tidy looking GT200 X5, amongst other bikes.

I'd have a GT380/550/750 or a KH in a heartbeat but they're just stupid money.

My RF900 could be just what your after.......

They might have rusted, (mind you so did everything else except 144 onwards Olvovs), but everything still worked and they were a pleasure to work on...proper Japanese stuff are still made to be maintained..

Speaking with a young ( about 30 so a bloody whippersnapper to me) lorry mechanic this week, we got on the subject of working on cars, him and his mates have no trouble at all when it comes to the Jap stuff designed to be fixed, but he was especially scathing about VW saying everythings always bloody seized up underneath and they're a bloody nightmare to work on.

Yo Trig, is it Shotley this week?

Yes Dave. I expect to see you there or else.

By the way it's this Thursday 3rd July.

I remember that green one from your blog. Diesel wasn't it?

Aye. Mighty VM. Was on Ebay fairly recently. A great car ruined by other people's bodgery. The wiring was an absolute nightmare.

I'm on the borderline of having a(nother) mid life crisis and currently weighing up buying a 600-1000cc sports bike. Someone quite local has a really tidy Kawasaki ZX6R which looks the part, so might go and view it later.

I'm not quite doing the midlife crisis thing right, I have a real hankering for one of those old mopeds where you had to pedal them to start the engine. that or one of those '50s cyclemotor things

One day I might have a crack at making one of those DIY cyclecar things that were all the rage back in the mid thirties.  One day I might also do something meaningful and useful to humanity, but it's just as likely as the former idea.

I fancy a go at a DIY cycle car as well actually. It's probably just as unlikely.

Poxy air con has stopped working. I had a few weeks from it but there must be a leak somewhere in the system. Think it may be easer to find a new car where it works as it should

Current to do list is

  • Fix drivers speaker as it is intermittent
  • Fix rear speaker as it isn't working
  • Fix washer pump as is intermittent
  • Fix fan blower as it is intermittent
  • Tighten rear handbrake so it holds
  • Fit fan relays whenever they show up
  • Fit glow plugs
  • Adjust drivers door as it sits not quite right
  • Put car seat covers on drivers seat as the stitching has come loose
  • Clean the car inside and out
  • Stock up on 200 litres of veg

Hopefully all of this before next Wednesday when I drive down to Grenoble for a friends wedding.

Just waiting for the new blower fan and will lob that in. Glow plugs can wait until I get back. The rear handbrake cable adjuster is crusty but managed to tighten it a bit. Adjusting the door has made a big difference to the wind noise, but I have noticed the check strap is missing. Will rectify that with some good old cable ties.

Had a browse of a local scrappy.

It's a pity the number on that Mini isn't G636 OCK instead of G626, with some careful spacing and bolt placement it would be perfect for an AMG 6.3 G-Wagen.

On 405 I was still getting tiny bubbles in the fuel lines and starting it took a while to catch. Swapped over a the two Jubilee clips for correct fuel hose clips and bobs your uncle, bubbles no more.  Engine catches straight away now as well.

I used to enjoy driving down to Grenoble years ago.  Once I got past Paris I used to get on the autoroute, set the cruise control to 130, and just sit there eating up the miles (and the pez) until the péage near Lyon.  Can't do that any more though - they've got fugging radar traps everywhere, and they're a lot harder to spot than they are here*.  If I have to drive down there now I tend to take the back roads and make a day of it, stopping in some random town for lunch.

I thought that was how they looked when they came off the production line?

Look at the state of the interior on this dodge Nitro. Yugo was knocking out higher class stuff in the early 80's. The gearstick brings extra merit for looking like a pound shop bog brush coloured in with a worn out black marker pen.

MOT day today for Mr Acclaim...

post-3625-0-66063800-1404138391_thumb.jpg

Sadly it failed... but only on the NSF wheel bearing being noisey so hopefully that should be a easy fix.

The Cavalier was interesting though, 1 owner from new and sold by the garage when new.

It's only done 41000 miles and was mint, except for the cream interior which was black from ground in dirt, apparently it's came back as the owner doesn't want it anymore. I never asked what was happening to it but i suspect it's for sale if anyone's interested?.

Even better though was this Nova GSi, 1 lady owner from new and 38000 miles. It's having a new front wing and front valance fitted as well as sill repairs, I'm not sure if that was a trade in or not though.

It just doesn't like electricity, of any form and at any time. Also the abs accumulator is knackered, it's not mine by the way I am not that silly*

/\/\ also it comes up with "engine disabled press remote or enter key code" guess what, the one remote doesn't work. Oh how we laughed.

Started my collection of 20th century telegraph poles off with this example of the 344b from 1960.

Notice the subtle differences between this and the 344a.

Chap also had a mint 266 from 1955 but at £8 it was too expensive.

^ because this is Autoshite, I can't tell if you're joking or if you have seriously started collecting samples of telegraph poles, both seem very likely.
