The Audi has been in the garage since it broke down outside the test centre over a month ago. They did say it would take a couple of weeks to get to but they have not been able to diagnose the problem. I rang them a couple of weeks ago and they said it must be the ECU. A week later I rang again and they were looking for a 2nd hand ECU.

Last week I rang, still looking for an effing ECU. I pop on ebay, buy one in 5 mins and it arrives today. I drop it down to them and they say that they will ring me in a couple of days. Like a dick I Ieft it at that as I am far too British (and clueless) to think on my feet, say what I think and sort it out.

Now, I assume as that this car does not have plug in diagnostics its a plug and play ECU rather than programmable? Where does it plug in? I should have just waited, checked and done it myself and driven the car away, but like a dick I have left it to them to charge me ££££ for a 30 second job? Or have I? I don't know? Fucking modern (well, it has injectors and a computer) cars.

As I have said before, I think the Audi is sentient. When I first bought it I started recording the mileage but the milometer  broke so I have no idea what awful MPG I am getting unless I brim the tank and I cant afford to do that as I am spending so much on fuel.

I was going to MOT it and get shot but after this I will have probably spent so much on it, it will be totally daft to sell it as I will have sunk ££££ into it , much much more than its worth with the new battery, tyres, cambelt*, brakes and wheel bearings PLUS this ECU shizzle.

Because of this and its German heritage, I think I might have to call this car Kristine.

*I spent money on a water pump but could not get the fucker out and broke 2 bolts so am chancing it there until I can be arsed to do it properly on a day when its not raining.

That's a bummer, Trig. He sounds like me only much worse.

Does this mean you're going to buy that Granada or whatever it was you were looking at the other day?

The guy on the Blue forum has offered the Saab for £350 plus the Acclaim. Could probably barter that down a bit too. That would be a great idea.

He's emailed me about it too, apparently that Saab was on ebay recently for £450 BIN? The current seller who I've been told is a trader has bought it, polished it and took some better photos. In a ideal world though I really need to sell the Civic before I buy another car but that seems to be as popular as booking Gary Glitter to DJ a 6th birthday party.

To be fair it seems an honest old thing and the seller with the daft camera settings isn't attempting to make a fat lot on it, he seems fairly harmless to me.

I can lay my hands on a 1.4 onion trig, I think it got cat d after some little spunkwaste broke most of the windows, but that has been rectified.

I can inquire about price if you like?

Yeah strong money I know but it was a clean, low mileage car and the values of the 1.6i's are going up quickly too, saying that for all I know the sills could be missing under the body kit now and mice could have nippled their way though the electrics so it was a risk.

Cheers Ruffgeezer but I'm in no rush as yet as I must shift the Civic before I buy anything else and the Acclaim will need to go too really.

I've had the absolute pleasure* of coming to work in the Kangoo today.

Having previously suggested stuff like Mk3 Golfs and a Toyota Avensis's's's are a desperately dire place to be, I think I've found the new number one.

I might park my bike up at Llandegla and use this fucking hateful thing to come down in instead.

I am about to assist Parky Snr with replacing pads and shoes on a Citroen Nemo.

I fully expect we will lose an essential spring, screw, or plastic clip somewhere during the process and end up having to shell out mega coin for some pathetic piece of French unobtanium. Luckily we have both done this sort of stuff a few times so fuck ups aren't entirely unexpected.

Oh, and Senior also got the parts from Euro Car Parts so there is the possibility that the parts are for something unrelated, like a Trabant or Horsey Horseless.

Wish me luck!

I saw a rather rough F reg black Orion 1.6i Ghia on the back of a flatbed on Sunday, hopefully it was being saved and not scrapped, due to it being spotted on a Sunday morning I am hoping it was being saved. I imagine these scrap merchants would want to pay £££££ less to collect a car on a Sunday lol!

Au contraire, the Nemo is almost entirely Italian, it's a Fiat Shitfart or whatever they call it. Good luck.

So peugeot still likes to delight me by making random noises and things stopping working

Earlier driving along suddenly the rear wheel started groaning, straight away i thought the rear wheel bearing has gone.

Stripped off rear drum with a fight and found the cause. It looks like one of the retaining pins has made a break for freedom, leaving the spring to be billy no mates.

That would also explain tthe random brake sticking on handbrake sometimes.

To celebrate it being a simple fix, the windscreen washer has stopped squirting. In saabs you had trolls, what are the French version called? Smurfs??

I R BODYWORK EXPURT JUST LIKE FUZZ OFF TELLY.

img_2612.jpg

Even by my standards, I'm some way from a standard that could be deemed safe for telly. Fuzz needn't fear my bodgery! Still, if that lasts another six months, I'll be pleased. Previous 'repair' wasn't too bad. If the MOT goes well, perhaps I'll see about getting some actual metal let in there.

New AS levels of bodgery, it looks like you've just shoved some cornflakes in there and crayoned over them.

Approval rating: 267/14, can't do better.

!!! A-framed Green Mehari seen travelling north on A49 (modern towing) shortly after met. blue Avenger spotted.

Must be the heat. No pics., so it probably didn't happen.

Gumtree's awash with them for about half that money.

To be fair, there's absolutely no point trying to do a better job. Well, that's what I told myself last time. If I'd done a better job last time, maybe I wouldn't be redoing it now! The aim was always to 'just tide it over' until the welding happens. If it gets another MOT with no bother, it will be treated to a welding session. If it fails spectacularly, there will be a very cheap raffle event coming soon!

Keeping it covered and the rot at bay is always going to be better than just leaving it to get worse. Besides, my bodywork skills wouldn't have made a better job!

Hoping it does pass the MOT as it's a delightful wee thing.

Dw, I reckon a career in pebble dashing awaits;)

From 10 feet it'll look fine.

Speaking of bodywork skills, my part restoration of the 504 hit a stumbling block tonight. The newbie welding was coming on well and most of the front panel in the frilly areas has had new metal let in. For some reason tonight I can't quite get the settings right and some crappy welds and loss of mojo later ive decided to down tools and return to it later in the week.

Id like to be able to confidently trouble shoot and sort it out myself but I suspect my neightbour who is a dab hand with the mig will be called upon to cast his eye over where im going wrong.

Indeed it was - surprised to see Lancia etched in the brake drum. 1.4 HdI Nemo Multispace R italian exotic

Generally went alright. Virtually no wear in the shoes so we left them, no point changing them with only about a millimetre of wear and they were working just fine. Pads on the other hand were a PITA, mainly changing the anti rattle clips which were slightly different to the originals. Eventually after much faffage we opted to use the originals as they were fine. And sturdier than the replacements.

And the replacement parts were actually correct which was a nice surprise! So overall it went better than expected. Which was nice.

I was heading for Newtownabbey just after 10 this a.m.. Bit of a hold up, cops directing traffic. I eventually saw the cause of the hold up: a wee mark 1 phase 2 Clio had driven out from a petrol station into the path of a brand new E350 estate, and got t-boned. All 465 airbags in the Benz looked to have deployed, although the outside didn't look too bad. Amazingly the Clio was pretty banged up, but looked to have retained it's passenger cell more or less intact.

OMG NOT ALL OLDCARZ IS DETHTRAPS.

Took the Capri out for the first time since Classic Ford (came straight home and parked it up), went and saw a very cool guy about engines and the like, opened the bonnet and some cunt at the Pod's nicked my headlight covers.
