Sorry, just catching up on the last few pages...

two new rear tyres ... minimum on the inside... in 18,000miles

It might be scrubbing them off - could there be something bent or out of adjustment at the back end?

To be fair it's not far off the minimum on the outside either - I'll take a pic. Looks like it was a screw anyway - I put some air in and you could hear it coming straight out again. Part of this could be my steep learning curve on not power sliding rear wheel drive automatics with no LSD out of the gravel driveway:-)

I done the hot water trick which seemed to work, the trouble was i had no control over the sprayer as the on/off lever didn't seem to work and it just continually kept squirting out the end of the lance, it's made a right old mess so I've cleaned it all over and packed it away where it will no doubt sit now for the next 10 years.

Yep, this year for the first time i tried Bilt Hambers aerosols, a revelation.

Flows, easy to use, not one blockage or fart over 8 cans used so far between two cars, expensive to buy but no waste whatsoever, barely any lingering smell, its first choice for me from now on.

Last time i waxoyled it took weeks to clean up, especially the cooker used for heating, it doesn't go where you want it to unless you thin it to almost pure white spirit and hand splosh it on, and then heat the sod up to nigh on boiling point, you get so much on you that its best to tip the first batch straight over your head then you won't worry so much when the next two lots end up there anyway....and the stink means the car is almost uninhabitable for months, never again.

Waxoyl is piss, well it would be if it was runny enough....I got stuck with a 5 litre tin of it after using* their wanky lance.  Dynax S50 IS loads better and stinks far less...What I did do, though, with the rest of the Waxoyl was identify areas in the car that it could be POURED into, such as box sections with horizontal access.  Using axle stands so that the stuff could run enabled a few more areas to be "injected" by gravity.   I then bought a £20 camping stove (to avoid penile cross-ectomy from Mrs R. if I used the new cooker...) and boiled the shit up in an old pan from the charity shop.   Got it bubbling up and then it poured nicely into pre-planned areas.   It cooled enough not to Niagara out too much once it filled up where I wanted it to go.  I spread an old blanket (charity shop doggy bed department) under the car which soaked up any excess.  After I was done, the stove was still clean enough to use for camping, the pan serves as a good drainage utensil for diffs etc and the Waxoyly bits of old blanket made a fantabulous fire-starter in the outdoor fire basket.   Made me cough a bit, though, too....

I use Rejel cavity wax. Exactly the same as Dinitrol but cheaper and under a different name (owned by the same company). Excellent stuff, and comes with an 18" extension pipe which is ideal for getting inside sills and stuff.

Angry, does that Rejel stuff spray easily without clogging up though the long extension please?, wouldn't mind some clear for inside doors inside the bonnet/boot pressings etc, any drops that get on carpets a lot easier to clean off.

Good luck on that learning curve, I've not managed it with over 30 years of shagged tyres and the occasional 'oh shit' moment.

Finally managed to get the dashboard done in the truck. Just need to prepare it for an mot tomorrow now. Even though it doesn't need one the DVLA messed up the log book and the chassis number is 1 digit out. A new mot will change the vehicle record and should get me a new V5 with the correct details.

As mentioned in another thread, I went to see my mechanic mate Francie today to sort out his misfiring e-mail. Tucked into the side of the workshop is his latest present to himself - this 1939 Norton 500. What a thing! Bought as several boxes of bits, but it's all there. Francie is in the process of restoring it, in between jobs.

BFO single cylinder 500cc with decrompression lever, and manual ignition. I've owned a lot of motorbikes myself over the years, from early 1970's 50cc stuff, right up to a brutal 2005 Suzuki GSX1400, but the lack of, umm, anything really on this Norton scares the shit out of me. For example, that's a bicycle seat if you ask me!

Wonderful nonetheless.

Wow, the Hotchkiss interior is just gorgeous. Norton also very cool.

Edited to add: I've just realised I sound like a Californian teenage girl. Sorry. Probably got a bit carried away.

Normal service will be resumed shortly.

Got a call from Adrian Flux today asking if I wanted to show the Capri at Classic Ford this weekend, that'll be pretty cool.

Fun day out, but it does mean the public will see how ropey the car actually looks up-close.

I wonder how my girlfriend will find the OMGFLUXBABES?

You'll be alright, I reckon some of the Fluxbabes will look quite ropey up close too.

(What a classy and imaginative marketing idea that was.)

I think that they look very young and surprised that their tits are so big and sticky outy.

In other news camped in the camper van at a music/beer festival at the weekend

and it lagged it down with rain the entire time.

It was brilliant.

My late missus did some modelling work when she was a student, and I remember her telling me, and I quote "Those fucking push-up bras nearly ripped by tits off, through the top of my head"

Show him where Llandrindod Wells is and tell him that broadband hasn't got there yet. He'll soon consider Ashford as the promised land.

To be fair, you've done well to get 18,000 miles from them I reckon!

Hope Ma_Vulgalour's send off goes as well as can be expected today, Angyl.

The day has been superb, amazingly.  There were at least 15 cars (there were about 20 cars in the crematorium car park in addition when the procession from the church arrived), all of which had ribbons applied by the passengers/drivers in them.  Every car had at least 3 people in, some had even more.  We packed out the church, packed out the crematorium, stopped the traffic (well, initially a police officer stopped the traffic so we could all get out on the first roundabout) and Mum would have been very proud of what was achieved.

As Mum led the procession in the utterly beautifully turned out Daimler she looked like a very, very important person, people seemed to react almost like it was some sort of state funeral.  Normally a funeral procession is a hearse and two limousines, maybe three or four cars following, but this was a cavalcade of cars of all shapes and sizes from Dad's Lexus LS400 used as the family limo, my Xantia estate as the flower car, a brand new Mercedes mpv, an ancient Corsa van, an MG with bows all over it and even a Mazda Bongo with butterfly decals all over it.  Truly, it was the Autoshite of processions and every person taking part was happy and willing to put ribbon on their car.

I'm on something of a bittersweet high at the moment.  Mum has been given a send off fit for a state dignitary and the love people had for her that she gave in spades has been shown as much as we possibly can.  The generosity of those that have helped with all the practical things, the well wishes, the cards, the lighting of candles (and other flammable materials), raising of glasses and general toasting of Mum have been such that I really am overwhelmed by it all.

I wish I could share the experience with everyone I meet, it has been a singularly impressive event.  Everything today has been purple and white, even the rhododendrons at the crematorium were colour coded and there were so many flowers.  I almost feel bad that the funeral party arriving after us (brand new Jag hearse and limo) had to wait for all the cars and people to finish leaving before they could park up.

I'm glad the send off went well angyl I'm sure your mum would have been proud

Spent tonight trying to get the interior fan/aircon working in the Multipla. The PO had bypassed everything with a big switch and there was a rats nest of wires everywhere. After repairing the wiring and replacing the fan resistor pack and a servo it still didn't work. I rewired a slightly melted multi-plug and bingo, everything now works!

I suspect the multi-plug was the original fault, the PO had added extra earth wires, replaced the resistor pack (with the wrong item), and finally given up and fitted home made resistor pack, loom and switch. I'm so chuffed to have fixed this bodge! Wife is V happy too.

In other news, the ABS light has come on on the XM and I don't know what's wrong with it.

I bought a flymo lawn mower 8 years ago when I moved into this house. I was just out cutting the grass and it suddenly slowed down and burst into flames.
