So is taking a picture of a German car and a Japanese car in front of Coventry Cathedral an exercise in showing that what they couldn't do to the British car industry with bombs, they could do with cheap reliable hatchbacks?

Something like that, but the spacing of that shot is naff.

Oh, that was me, there's a man getting paid a lot of money to take much better shots than that!

You can't tell us this

showing her knickers and that she had no bra on

And only supply pictures of cars. Must try harder!

I think she was a druggy and was very scraggy, I'm honestly doing you a favour not posting photos!

This is a great advert for Coventry isn't it? I can honestly say I've never had that happen on a photo shoot!

They said it was a first too! The Photographer Eric wasn't impressed when he had to ran off after her after she walked off with his flash umbrella!

Once again the gas pipe has sprung a leak and gas is leaking up through the drain trap in my front garden and the inspection pit for the cable TV junction box. So British gas come along and dig a big hole in a random manner and at 3pm - BANG -  go through the electricity cable for next door (this is not the first time they have done this).

So they call in their friends at the Norweb Federation to come and dig an even bigger hole to fix the electricity cable... and -BANG - take the entire fucking street out at 10pm.  Its 3am before the house alarms burst into life signalling the return of electric.

I don't know why they don't all club together and buy a bulk  load of "Knobs in charge, sorry.."  signage

Spent 8hours in cars yesterday going to Hull and back. Most of it I was chauffered in a new Jag. XF. It was very nice actually -lots of leather, suede and wood. It was a 2.2 diesel and we averaged 57.5mpg there and back at legal speeds.

Those roadworks on the M1 are a pain thought - 22miles at 50mph each way we measured, although this did help the mpg.

Mr V. you are doing very well and I know the thoughts of the AS collective are with you and your family.

In other news, the stickers are here, I will be posting all those who have paid out tomorrow, then I'm away for a week, so the rest will need to wait until my return

'Laggier than a water pipe in Iceland'. ??????!!!!!

DW,you are in danger of finishing tests with references to bitches and spanking.

Ian, there is too much goodness on the road test reports. I'm going to be half expecting a queue of journalists at next year's Shitefest all planning to plunder the event as a source of worthy material.

I'm saving that for the Kia Pride.

In actual car news, I think I'm going to put the BX on the market. Funds are just too tight to get away with running three cars. I'm not doing an ad today though as it's my birthday and I can't be arsed. Supercomfortpracticalygreatonfueladocious available for £575.

Happy birthday Ian.

S'mine, too -coincidentally.

Too old to care, now.

Happy birthday to ian and nigel.

If we had a voting thread on whether Dollywobbler could stick to only 2 cars; I suspect that the Autoshite jury would only go one way and it wouldn't be in favour of less is more.

Posted

Thanks folks - and birthday Bickle wishes too. Two cars doesn't sound like my idea of fun I must admit. I could SORN the Sirion at the end of the month. That's not fun either.

You could always loan the BX out.  Although I recall that you have done something similar before!

Happy Birthday Ian, shame about the BX situation though.  Lets hope it stays in the fold.

Just had a thought how much to ship a td5 discovery from matlock to weston super mare. It runs for loading but can't be driven far

I don't think Flanders and Swann included cable television in their song, but you're getting there

Blog updated with more crap road tests. Richard's Volvo 850 yesterday, Mat's delicious VW LT today.

I actually had a non-turbo LT35 for a while.  It really wasn't that bad - definitely a lot quicker than, say, a nat-asp LDV 400 (although, to be fair, so is continental drift), and would roll along at 70 once wound up.  The engine was a lot more willing to rev than an Indenor, too, and obviously sounded a lot hornier.  I also had a 2.4 petrol version, which was lovely, if thirsty.  Never driven a TD before, but I've had a couple of Volvos with that engine and it is, as you say, laggier than an Icelandic water pipe.  I'd still love one though - although the few that are left now seem to be making mental money.

Well, the Spacy passed its MOT this afternoon after I bodged out the play in the rear wheel using a couple of sump plug washers as spacers and tightening everything down as hard as I could.  I used sump plug washers as they were the only 5/8" washers I could find at short notice - none of the hardware shops stocked anything more than 1/2".

I'm probably going to have to de-bodge it before putting it into regular use as I think the washers are a bit too big and are fouling the wheel bearing, but that shouldn't take long.  I went straight to the post office to tax it (wouldn't normally buy a tax disc this late in the month, but when it's only 17 quid for a year, even a tightarse like me doesn't mind losing a few days), so the bike's now fully road legal for the first time since August 1997.

Life carries on, and practical considerations continue to be a thing.  Today it was brought to my attention that I have to organise the cars, something I'd actually managed to forget all about!  Have to have them all gone or at least able to be moved no later than the 20th of August but I think it's possible.

Xantia - just put tax on it, repair it once moved.  I've been UBERCRAP at sorting out that noisy corner but equally I've barely even used the car so it's not got any worse and it'll make the trek north no worries.  Brake caliper has fixed itself and the clutch has gone back to where it was when we picked it up for reasons I don't understand and am not questioning.

Orange Princess - finish stripping what's left of it and scrap the remains

Beige Princess - Do minor jobs, drive it north to fail a pre-booked MoT

Red Princess - Do minor jobs, give it to Phil to drive south to a pre-booked MoT

Renault - SOLD!  Just got to get the front wings to the new Autoshiter owner

So I think I'll be okay on this front, though it's less than ideal.
