In other amazing news I think I've just bought a Tagora

I have waited nearly 6 years for a UK shitter to announce that! Can't wait to see it  8)

My Mum and Dad fly back home today, so thought I'd make use of an extra set of hands by mounting the roof rack I'd been storing in the garage for 18 months, after buying it on a whim at a local sale for $1:

Only thing is, we're due to take a long trip away in it in a few weeks, so thought it best to test out its carrying capability:

Had to do some improvising but I reckon we're good to go.

I won't be doing live collection capers, as I'll be mostly driving, but I'm very excited about Disco/BX swap day. Handover is scheduled for 1030hrs. This'll be my first non-turbo BX experience since a certain stripey encounter.

Make sure the accelerator pedal doesn't wobble. PLEASE.

^^Reading other DW posts, I'm assuming it's my old blue BX and the accelerator pedal was fine when I had it.  The door welds on the other hand....and the clutch was monumentally heavy, unless catsinthewelder fixed it.

Actually Rob, the clutch doesn't seem that bad. Rich has kindly welded up the nearside door hinge. Offside is fine.

Anyway, today's non-BX news is that the front nearside caliper on the Sirion is definitely binding. I'll whip the pads out and see what's what. Frustratingly, it has started to feel hesitant again at times. I wonder if the fuel pump is unwell? It's extra G-force - hard cornering or hitting the start of a steep ascent - that seem to cause it. When the pump is having to work pretty hard I guess. At least I know what's involved in removing the fuel tank.

5ltr tin of Hydralastic fluid, brand new water pump and a selection of fuses arrived today so I can crack on with sorting both cars out... oh but I'm ill and every time I stand up I'm dizzy.  It's like being drunk but without any of the good bits.

I have today agreed a deal of epic proportion, which will see an important box ticked on my bucket list.

No details yet, as I don't want to sabotage it, but needless to say, it involves rust and a lack of roadworthiness!

Sounds interesting! I've just been to the local museum to chat about a car show I'm organising there next month, as it was closed to public I had a little look round some of the exhibits, check our this little Enfield, the gear lever is mega cool, apparently it's the only one of its type made.

I had annoying dent on the door of my Merc were some unknown ball bag had opened their door against the car in the works car park then fucked off without admitting it. It's going back soon so took it to one of these paintless dent guys who while I was in Asda buying a sandwich knocked out what look like a pretty deep dent totally perfectly. It's totally flawless I wish I'd watched him do it. He did relieve me of 80 quid mind you but a damn site cheaper and easier than getting it filled and painted.

Jump started my daughter's Cinquecento which hasn't started in ages. Fired up first turn and still sounds like an explosion in a ball bearing factory, it's a great little car which I think I will use for journeys to work and just bumbling round in.

Weird combination of hydraulic lifters but with adjustable rockers. Seals go in the hydraulic bits and really should be replaced as they loose the oil out of them and take an age to pump up again. I managed to have some solid lifters turned up for my last one with made it as quiet as and just adjusted the clearances to suit as if they were solid.

Can't sleep, browsing eBay for useful* parts when I come across an advert for this not more than half an hour's drive away.

Mostly, I'm interested in the suspension spheres, if I can get a good passenger side rear still in the trailing arm it saves me a good amount of work sorting out the two I've got.  I doubt I'll be able to convince the seller to part with the rear axle complete for £20 though, and that's about my budget presently, but if I've learned one thing with Princess parts hoarding it's that being a chancer gets you bargains, especially if you turn up in a Princess.

Received a deposit on the Audi today. I had to MOT it before it would sell, after sorting out the bits and pieces left over from nearly a year ago it only failed on a loose battery.

Oddly the new owner has owned it before, think he was originally the second or third owner, but he was chuffed with the condition and said it doesn't look any worse than when he had it years ago!

I'm glad it's off to someone who will look after it, he's local too, so may still see the old ship floating around.

So it'll be off to pastures new tomorrow, quite sad to see it go, but the usual lack of space, and soon lack time meant it had to.

It'll be the first time in a couple of years that I've only had one car. I may have to consider selling the 205 to fund something more sensible, as my commute has gone from 0 to 65 miles. I'll give it a good service and change the driveshafts, hopefully it will be fine!

Just finished changing TV2's PCV system, a task which I have been putting off for some time now, due to bad weather, procrastination and general fear of doing so.

An absolute pig of a job!

I'm glad that I did it, though, as the old oil trap and breather pipes looked like the factory-fitted ones and were blocked with oily muck, which can't have been doing the engine any good and no doubt contributed to the car's high oil consumption (leakage and burnage). It seemed polite to change the engine oil and filter as well, as they hadn't been done since the end of 2012, due to it using a litre of oil a month and therefore getting an 'oil change' via top-ups every six months...

Here's hoping that what I've done to the car today makes a difference. It certainly idles a lot smoother, due to replacing several split/perished vacuum hoses with suitable rubber tubing (740 saloon windscreen washer tubing IIRC) from my Volvo Box, and a broken length of rigid plastic breather pipe with a length of aluminium tube cut to the same size, which until this morning made up a substantial part of a pair of long-reach grabbing tongs ;)

It certainly says a lot about the Volvo 5-cylinder engine that the car ran as well as it did, even though its PCV bits were foxed; other cars (the Saab 9-5 springs to mind) would have died a long time ago.

Might have to go and get some Solpadeine or similar later, though, as my lower back hurts after bending over the car's engine bay for over three hours, and I imagine that it will hurt even more in the morning - being nearly 40 sucks :(

Next on the agenda: a replacement windscreen and front brake discs/pads, in time for the MOT. And a new pair of long-reach grabbing tongs...

Brucie bonus time today. Got a quote for refurbishing calipers and can get both done for £40 which is £100 better than big redd. That includes taking them apart, cleaning and rebuilding. Also because they were slow giving me a quote they have knocked some money off

Bonus bit is that i have remembered that i bought a pair of calipers from a breaker last year when i needed the carrier. So i can get them sent off without having to take the car off the road.

Early booking date for new MoT for beige Princess today.  I'm fairly certain that the Yellow Chalk of Truth will bring about a fail from the driver's sill and boot floor area, but I'd rather see what needs doing before booking the car in for welding while the car still has MoT on it, makes life easier.

I've checked the sills and underside of the red one as much as I can and am unaware of any welding that's required, MoT or otherwise.  Now I have the ability to use the jacks on the red one I can get it sorted and booked in later this month too.  I am now a fortnight behind schedule though, I had wanted to have the red one MoT'd by the end of February.

Stopped on the way home as a friend of my wife had broken down. "It just stopped and the warning light came on" doing 60mph... this isn't going to be good.

Hers an 05 206 with a 1.4 mill, recently had a load of work done including the cambelt.

Imagine then, my surprise when removing the cam cover and spinning it over, the cam stayed put and there was no compression to be found. Oh dear.

Planning a trip to Northern Italy via Amsterdam, the Nurbergring, and Switzerland in July, most likely going in the MG. 2600 miles over 2 weeks. Looking forward to the ring!

A limeflower Wolzcrab? No one needs encouragement to buy one of those as they are mega appealing. Just for safety's sake though, good luck Junkman.

In a related sort of way, I spent the afternoon rubbing peanut butter into my Volvo's black trim and it looks ruddy ACE!

Thanks for the tip.

I'm not sure which bit of that Wolzkrabb I like the most, but I'm going to take a stab at it being the mention of a green velour head lining, which just sounds ludicrously decadent.
