Arsebiscuits.  Blingo turns over but will not fire.

Scary results from Tame Mechanic's code reader point to ECU issue.  Checking cheaper possibilities first, strapped on big charger to eliminate tired battery as problem.  Still won't fire.

Bumhats.  Tank pump next.

What code and what age + engine + ECU?

Some stuff like the 1.6HDI can cheaply take a second hand ECU with "immo off. i.e. reflashed to not have an immobiliser and to be plug + play. Even if not a permanent solution, it could be a way to eliminate an ECU fault if checked everything else.

I’ve helped put that manta 400r together. Last year at the vboa after it had been painted it was on the show stand in a tent. We were puttin it back together lol.

Yesterday evening I jumped in the Getz and drove down in the pissing rain to just outside London.  The reason for the 5 1/2 hour round trip was that I'd bought this.

20231029_122558.thumb.jpg.8161320a76053f88b70e720a9a5a4eb4.jpg

It's a folding electric scooter, and yes it is road legal.  It's on a 64 plate, Chinese made (natch) and has a 1hp electric motor in the rear wheel hub and a 36v lithium ion battery under the footboard.  It has a partial twistgrip throttle like the shifter on a cheap mountain bike, an on/off LED headlight (no sidelight or main beam), indicators in the ends of the bars, cable disc brakes and a surprisingly loud horn.  The seat / luggage rack assembly unclips with a simple spring clip and lifts off (once you've unplugged the wire to the rear light) and then the handlebars fold down flush with the footboard.

So what's it like to ride?  Absolutely fucking terrifying.  It takes off like a scalded cat and will wheelie if you don't have your weight far enough forward.  The wheels are tiny, there's lots of play due to the folding nature of the beast, it's slow (23mph flat out on the flat) and it weighs bugger all so bounces around all over the place.  I bloody love it.

There is a reason I bought it (apart from the fact that it's hilarious fun): when I dump a car at the station when I'm heading off on a collection mission, when I get home I can then hop on this and ride to the station to pick the car up - quicker than cycling and better than relying on the sparse bus service around here.  It'll get from here to Norwich on a charge although it'll take a while and I'm sure it'll be fun* being overtaken by Farmer Giles in his John Deere and silage trailer.

Here it is in the boot of the Toyota.  It'll fit in the Getz fine but only with the rear seats folded down.

Screams check earths and power feeds to me. Especially directly at the ECU connector.

This sounds like a lot of things, but the P codes? Generic reader or actual Lexia?
Genereics hate talking to this age diesel, lexia give more ‘understandable’ results in my experience

Once had an issue with a Peugeot Partner turning over but not starting.

Turned out the issue was the casing for the flip key had broken causing all the innards to fall out of line. Put it back together and it started!

Very unlikely to be the case with yours, but no harm in checking or trying to start it with a spare key if you have one. You never know!

Wow. What Latitude are you on there? We in the UK are expected to have another storm this week with lots of wind/rain.

Some are forecasting a big temperature drop in November here.

I have no idea about latitude, but I am about 60km inland and 173 meters above sea level in southern Norway.

And I usually get the first snowfall around 1 November here, so this is nothing unusual, but it varies from winter to winter.

Edit, if the map in the link is correct, I am roughly in the middle between latitude 57N and 60N.

London, where I am this morning, is 2,660 miles S. of the North Pole - on Latitude 51.50°N.

If you are at 60°N. you are about 560 miles north of us here.

Shows the difference the Atlantic makes to our weather.

We are also virtually at sea level of course.

I’ve fawned over a lot of rods in magazines and at shows over the years but that is just about perfect. Steel or ‘glass?

Bergen and Oslo are at around 60 N , similar to the Shetlands.

If you were to sail due west you would arrive at Orkney lat 58.9N

Orkney enjoys the benefit of being over 530miles from London.

(The voyage has been done before ...)

I papped this a couple of years ago on the M90 with a truckman top on it, looked sweet.

Same owner for the last 30 years. I quite possibly paid over the odds for it as they were pricing it with sentimental value. Initially they wanted £7k but I got it down to £4.5k and just spent a further £500 on a new clutch plus did some welding for its mot. I love the look of it but it's not very nice to drive, slow, under powered, heavy steering etc

Had a bit of spare time this afternoon so I gave my mother’s Clio a quick wash and vacuum. She’s had it since new and it’s done fewer than 38k miles. It turned 20 years old in July.

IMG_7065.thumb.jpeg.b6e1edc2b636abb5001020adfb9ead25.jpeg

The photos flatter it as it’s Pogweaseled and  lacquer-peely af, and every panel is scraped or scratched.  I’ve had a bit of a poke around underneath though and surprisingly couldn’t find any rust on the shell really at all. The front suspension components all look quite corroded so will perhaps need wishbones before too long (the strut top mounts already need doing).  Back axle looks OK; Don’t know if they’re a weakness on these like they are some contemporary Peugeots?

IMG_7067.thumb.jpeg.24cda746f69edbf0b4d8d8401e05a04d.jpeg

Whenever these are mentioned or come up for sale there always seem to be comments along the lines of mayo under the oil cap. Surprisingly, given the low mileage and the amount of time it sits around doing nothing, this one has never suffered from it.

IMG_7064.thumb.jpeg.fd41733cf47aa2b8f7a5e1e0f4bff47a.jpeg

I use it occasionally and it still drives pretty much like new. I don’t really like driving it, mind you, as it’s slow and I find the upright driving position annoying.  My son is 15 now and, although she hasn’t said anything yet, I think my mother might give up driving in a couple of year’s time and let him have it.

Ouch £7k does seem a bit optimistic, find another though. I only recall seeing that one, never seen another, I don't think they where popular when new. Shame you've not gelled with it, it does look a straight, honest truck.

The galaxy has had couple of no oomph then back too normal, missus moaned about it, tried injector cleaner , Italian tune up, long drives etc. Etc but fault keeped rearing it's head, till one day researching it someone muttered about they suffer with Maf problems... hmm I wonder... so I splashed some cash on a new one, but couldn't change it as the bolts are 5 starred security fittings, so to amazon to order a set... so now all swapped and so far so good..

I went to see a mate on this this evening, 8 miles in total on unlit country lanes.  Absolutely petrifying.  I'm not exaggerating when I say that 23mph felt too fast at several points - hit a bad bump in the road even at that speed and it feels like you're going to come flying off.  Headlight (LED) is mediocre but just about adequate for the speeds it can do.  One has to keep both hands on the bars at all times - hitting any kind of a bump while riding one-handed will send it into a speed* wobble.

That said it hummed along OK and the battery is still showing over half full so the 20-mile quoted range seems plausible.  I might try and stick to smoother roads from now on though...

The rear axles don't cause any bother on these, they aren't a torsion bar setup like PSA stuff. These things are tough like cockroaches, probably the only car to survive a nuclear apocalypse.
