Glad you had a good day out. Buses usually run(ish) to a published timetable, available online or on paper. Maybe set your watch 10 mins fast tho :)

I'm used to them running at least 10 minutes late, they changed all the times 2 weeks ago to make the timetable more achievable, I'm not quite used to them actually running on time!

Gave the Sexton a wash, splashed in 20L of WVO without spilling it down me and went a run.

I have to say that sounded to me like @GingerNuttz was volunteering to weld it up for you.  :)

I’m on the P4 group on Facebook and there’s lots of people saying I should replace the chassis and how easy it would be to do and how scrapping it can never be an option but when I ask anyone if they’d like to buy it and do the work themselves there’s just tumbleweed.

Moving on, the fuel tank has been refitted in the 145! The corroded and seized tank sender was gently coaxed back into life too meaning the gauge actually works now.

Had some time today to have a look at the Yaris that was bought yesterday. And started by removing the arch liners and etc and then  pressure washed it thoroughly underneath. There was a lot of crap under it.

And had my water filter system tested on the pressure washer. Worked perfectly.

After this, I took it for a quick drive to speed up the drying process. And then started looking at it. Driver's side Front wing I knew was bad and did fall a apart so took the wing off.

Fortunately, we have a good wing in the barn that just needs painting.

And fortunately, the area behind the wing looks good apart from some surface rust at the bottom at the sill.

Then started a thorough look under it, the sills are good.

Rear wheel wells have some surface rust but nothing serious.

Since this is an early Yaris, the fuel tank and pipes are steel and they also have some surface rust but nothing serious.

So luckily I haven't found anything more than what we saw when he bought the car.  So with a little work, one should be able to extend the lifespan of the bodywork by a few years. So the plan is the easiest, to treat it with fulid film when it has dried. And possibly paint the worst rust spots first. So not bad for a 24 year old car.

And while I was under it I discovered something in the gravel, this is a remnant of dad's first Yaris. It was almost identical to this one.

Forgot in my previous post. The earlier Yaris have a water trap in the beam behind the front wheels, until now I have only seen this on these earlier ones. And  this one did not disappoint, someone has removed the small plug on the other side so there was no water there will to that to this side also.  And fortunately the beam felt nice on the inside so I dont think its to rusty.

Public transport works like this. If you turn up at the published time it’s running a few minutes ahead and you miss it. However , if you arrive 10 minutes early, it runs 20 minutes late and you have to wait half an hour .

Decided to swap the oil filler gasket on the van since it was leaking. The new one leaked even more so I nipped it up a bit, no change, nipped it up a bit more and stripped the thread and now the 300 mile oold oil is in a drain pan. Ideal.

Still, a least it's looking good.

Thanks for the offer, I could get it welded down here or do it myself but I don’t want to end up up to my neck in an extended project, I’ve already got a couple of those. The other issues the Rover has are manageable for me but this chassis corrosion has tipped it over the edge for me from running resto to body off rebuild.

I've only taken a dozen bus journeys at the most in the past 45-odd years. Most have handy apps now so you can get live timings. Trains, which I use more often, never leave early, always on time or late (if not cancelled). In the case, the timetable was in the users head, but got changed before he could update his knowledge.

@SiC in theory, there are more baby boomers than Gen X'ers... so assuming an equal enthusiasm for old cars*...then this should be happening as Boomers give up driving?

* which is debatable - given lower disposable incomes.

I think many boomers are still able to drive. They're in their 60s and onwards.

However paying down/off a mortgage and bill increases will all play on minds. That's when toys get sold. Even more so if they were bought as investments and not intended to be driven.

I think the dust shield has had its chips.... and the sliders... and the flexi...and the copper pipe.....
Why is it that a smol job 'two hours dearest' becomes 'two weeks darling'?
Breaking the copper and flexi apart on one side to recover the holder was an interesting time - I've got a cracking farmer's tan.

Today I’ve enjoyed the fact that if you commute in a retro car, other people who are doing the same show you small acknowledgements as if to say… I approve. Had a mutual appreciation moment on the A55 in the 940 from both a Mk1 Golf (on the way to work) and a 90s Merc E-Class (on the way home).

This year was the first year I have driven to Fotu in the day and was really cool passing all the cars on the motorway up

Beaulieu auctions last weekend. Prices are definitely falling.

Yup - cars needing work often do badly at auction - or reflect their true value. Punters can't drive them, flippers can't flip them and they need (expensive) transportation, storage and repair.

Apparently the mini was in pretty decent condition. Was expected to be 10k+

I've wanted to take the SVX to the Forest of Bowland/Trough of Bowland/Ribble Valley for years. @Conrad D. Conelrad joined me for the ride (and took this boss photo).

I decided I'd make a mini weekend of it (just gone) getting a new MoT...

...and a friend's 40th birthday in Preston. I have a lot of contacts round there where I can stay for cheap; I worked from the University on Sunday and Monday.

Over the ToB, the SVX coped pretty well; it was too large for some of the minor roads (road) and it melted an H3 in spectacular fashion, but otherwise there were no problems to report.

It desperately needs a new exhaust, an alignment, the cruise and A/C fixing and new rocker cover gaskets to stop the occasional hot oil waft through the vents.

Good to see you enjoying the SVX again and taking some cracking photos of it.  Someone find the current Calendar thread and stick some of the above in it.
