Been there, done that...

We had no.1 in the right place initially but thought the arm was rotating clockwise so it would cough on two. Then reversed everything so it was 180 out...

It is now, finally, correct though.

The SU is "tuned" to the jet flush with surface and then two spins of the nut. This should be in the ballpark but you can't do much else with the car not running.

Good spark at all plugs.

I did wonder about the ignition switch as it seems to die as soon as the starter disengages.

Weird thing is the car ran on Sat with the old engine. Same carb, dizzy, alternator, starter, manifolds, etc.

These dizzies go counter clockwise and number one is the bottom looking in from passenger side usually, between 9-6 o'clock with number one at tdc.

Will it fire with fuel sprayed down it's throat? If it doesn't you're either ignition timing or a tooth out on the cam/crank.

As do the plugs

So I'll save them for next time. Oil was as black as your hat and the coolant appeared to be rusty water - so both changed. Better order a cambelt too I suppose

Been on the waiting list for the Toyota GR86 since it came out, but missed out on the first allocation which sold out in 90 minutes!

I thought with supply issues and emissions regulations that I'd missed my chance, and I wasn't prepared to buy secondhand due to the huge markup over list price.

Couldn't quite believe it when I received an email this morning saying that I can now order one!

Never bought a new car before. Think I might have to sleep on it!

Do it. GT86s haven't depreciated much and I think these GRs will really hold their value

It's about the cheapest and most risk-free new car out there if you consider that

350gt please

The countache is still a car I get up from the desk and go and take a photo of like a schoolboy ogling one in the 1980s.

This one got pushed outside , photographed and crawled under ( by new owner maybe?) And pushed back indoors again.  It's on red trade plates and i didn't see it arrive.

Really small wheels too,  which iain tyrell mentioned in a recent YouTube

Were they 13 inch, like what racing cars used to wear in the 1980's?

never seen a z plate the other way round

whats that about

xxxxZA is a county Dublin plate plate of June 1971-October 1971 issue

the ROI continued with the British system inherited in 1922, all the way up until 1987 when it ran out of marks and started with its current system

so reverse plates where a thing just like they where a thing here in the UK :)

I dont blame ya for getting caught out about it tho, the awful skinny/small font modern faux-old plates, does make it look like at first blush a ZVxxxxx age related Irish plate, until you realise its not the that way round! and is a genuine period mark :)

the rest of the car physical plates aside is lovely tho :)

My first 'proper' modern* car after my beetle when I passed my test. Still looks really good today.

I'm assuming you're going for it .

What colour?

I also received the same email. But I cannot make my mind up on colour!  Swithering between Red (standout but might get bored quickly, and £965 for solid paint ffs), Grey or Sapphire Blue.

My first car! Shat its head gasket twice.
You've got the fancy "SE" model, only bettered by the Vanden Plas. I can't remember what the difference was.

And a slush box (and that really is slushy)!

Is white or the light blue not the usual colour to go for? Danger of buying an "odd" colour is that you might struggle to rid yourself of it. Particularly the dark blue (I'm guessing it's 8M6? It's been around for 30 odd years).

There was a lighter blue which was offered on the first batch of cars that I would've gone for, but it doesn't appear to be available anymore.

I'm tempted to go for black. The fact that it's the cheapest option might have something to do with it! I think the white makes the black wheels/trim stand out nicely, but I'd rather spend several hundred quid on another car rather than some paint!

Just had to change the batteries in my CD player remote.  Can't complain too much, they've lasted 22 years.

whats that about

The last Z Dublin plate was ZU 9999, issued in 1954 (Z 1 was issued in 1927 for reference), then for a few years they tried some other combinations (ARI 1 came after ZU 9999) until 1971 when they went back to the classic Z plates for Dublin, and they just inverted the old series, so instead of Z 1 there was 1 Z etc
