I've seen you several times on the road in your various old cars, and on a couple of occasions in your ASDA van :)

Someone else spotted me recently, he parked his Cortina next to my Austin and posted the picture on Facebook. I was alerted to it by a friend of mine!

That Cortinas lovely!, I took my little Civic out for a spin today, the first time in weeks, I decided to have a go at making a video of it first, It's not great and i was cold and shaking so the quality isn't the best...

I'll try again in the new year once it's warm up a bit and the roads aren't as busy.

I was trying out my new super duper Galaxy S4 camera phone with HD video, it looks like it's been filmed on betamax!

Bloody Youtube have now removed the music from the video as well as lowered the image quality, no wonder people are getting fed up with them.

YouTube has gone shite in recent times, a few redesigns makes most of it unusable and sometimes just cuts out videos for no reason.

It's an OMGCOPYRIGHT thing that works like those music-identifying services in the background. It works of surprisingly little and mutes every single violation.

Put to good use, it'd be handy, but no...

I did a couple of videos of the Rover a while back, one DW-style road test which, having watched some of it back I can assure you will never, ever see the light of day and another passenger's eye view short which is as dreary as it is pointless.  That one I might upload somewhere.

I will say that I got very stable filming results with my Canon Powershot G11 camera on a mini tripod wedged in the passenger door pocket and then in the passenger seat head rest.  Lighting not great (not helped by it being a dull, rainy day), sound OK-ish.

In other Rover-related tedium, today I noticed the heating wasn't working.  Shortly afterwards, I noticed the temperature gauge heading north.  Pulled over and found it had drunk about a litre of coolant in 2 days and about 50 miles.  Sod that, time to get it fixed, I know how to do the work but I'm never going to get those waterpump bolts off, especially in one piece and it's miserably cold and raining permanently at the moment so it'll have to go to a local garage.  Oh, the shame.

I've done about 600 miles in the Carina E this week - down to my aunt's in Portishead and back, plus some shuttling around whilst I was down there.  It managed about 43mpg overall, which isn't brilliant but is mitigated somewhat by the foul weather conditions and heavy traffic on the way down there (50mph headwind FTL), and the fact that my aunt lives at the top of Portishead, which means a long climb up a rather steep hill which the Carina definitely won't get up in lean burn mode.  The tracking's slightly out as well, which won't be helping.  Needless to say, the car was completely dependable and stultifyingly dull, as per usual.  Will be booking the car in to get the tracking sorted though, as after a while it began to get a bit tiring having the car constantly pulling slightly to the left.

Today I took time out to replace a shredded shaft gaiter on the Xantia. I'd replaced it about 6 months ago but used one of those stretchy ones that you put on with a cone. As predicted it didn't last long. With a replacement to hand (made from plastic!) I took everything to bits, removed the shaft and stuck it in a vice to knock the joint off...

It didn't go well. I now need a new cv joint. FFS.

I've used J and R driveshafts online a few times for bits, recommend them highly.

CPS Ltd, Team Valley - Gateshead.

They know a lot.... guys doing cut n shut/homebrews go in, with a sheet of A4 showing centres/angles + what goes on each end. No problems and fully balanced.

helps to have deep pockets, of course.... but the cabdrivers rate them for 'proper' driveshafts - they should know  :-P

I'll just get a new joint from a motor factors or something. Should only cost £20 or so. It's just annoying that the Xant is out of action until it gets fixed, AND it's all re-work due to shit parts.

Hopefully sorted the water leak on the SEAT this afternoon. Fairly straightforward - remove door panel and unbolt metal accessory carrier. Scrape off as much of the old seal as possible / cba doing then slobber a boatload of tiger seal in place taking care* not to cover half the surrounding are in sticky black sealant too.

Extracted the red Ambassador, fuel leak from carb seems to have stopped but will be looked at again before it goes on the road.

Need to replace the knackered exhaust pre-MoT, pretty much removed it in an hour today but was really lacking in arsedness so will return to tomorrow.

Oh I didn't know PWE was yours Craig, I remember perving over it at BL day. Wonderful car!

It is the spitting image of my dad's old one, HWC 295Y (which I found a shit picture of the other day).

It's was a lucky find, our neighbour told us about a car at the kebab shop in the village that was about to be turned into an anti ramraid barrier. It was at this point we discovered that neighbours in Norfolk are a millionty times better than those in Kent.

Still needs paint on the door and tailgate and the bonnet and tailgate struts regassed.

My mum and dad's neighbours in West Runton were a right pair of twats. If we ever holiday in that neck of the woods again I might be forced to draw a large W and an anchor on their precious fucking lawn, using the medium of weed killer.

That's odd, West Runton's really nice itself...they must be from elsewhere!

Need to get the wheel/s balanced on the beige wedge.  At an indicated 53mph I get the familiar wheel wobble, either side of it there's nothing.  Shall aim to get it done before I hit the motorway in a week or two.  I did suspect they'd need it as none of the alloys have weights on them, but I'd not yet been fast enough since fitting them to find out for definite.

I tookt the transit out for a run today. Started first turn of the key so was treated to a Jet wash and hoover. Just waiting for the v5 so that ican flog it on. Was flipping freezing out in the garage, need to find a way of providing heat if I am going to work on things out there

Currently in Thurso. The little Daihatsu has been faultless so far, clocking up over 550 miles in two days. Makes me quite sad that the poor thing is so rotten. It's great!

Not very much internet up here though. Missing my daily AS fix. Our cottage lacks any mobile signal, which is probably a good thing.

I've just emailed an Estate Agent who has sold a large ex-garage for redevelopment, with a hope to getting a tour of the place to see if there is anything worth salvaging... I'll keep you updated but it's the biggest site I'll have visited yet.

I did not have luck on 24.12.2013!

At lunchtime, we were driving home through the city of Vienna when an old man decided he want´s to cross the main-street with his BMW X1. Right in the moment when I came down the road. Now my Mazda 6 looks like that:

txwe.jpg

No injuries, that´s the main thing. It will get repaired, it´s not totalled. The damage looks worse that it really is.

2013 wasn´t a good year for me, car-related. The Volvo I bought in February wasn´t a good one, the Mazda got hit by an old man with obviously no eyes in his head. But wait! I got me a beautiful Pajero in March which sleeps in a dry garage until spring 2014. So not all bad in 2013.
